Some info for unsuccessful folks...I went to 1.1.3 restored via iTunes which locked everything inc my SIMs back to 1.1.1 unlocked, activated and jailbroken.

From a 1.1.1 unlocked/jailbroken US iPhone here in UK on o2 Simplicity card, I got to the very last stage when something went wrong. Maybe it was one of the apps I had on there, who knows.

Anyway, after going wrong, I restored to 1.1.3 then followed the downgrade 1.1.3 guide. Despite having the "Not valid SIM" message back on 1.1.1 and 1.0.2, I still managed to get everything back working (yes the phone included), jailbroken and unlocked/activated again on 1.1.1 where I think I'll stay.

edit: I used iTunes 7.6 on Leopard and the original, unactivated AT&T SIM throughout.

appleguru1: I like the sound of a proper 1.1.3 jailbroken with the right baseband. I have a legit itunes activated o2 account, so upgrading the bb is no issue. Have you (or anyone else?) successfully done the 1.1.3 jailbreak with the new 1.1.3 baseband as per your process?

Oh, forgot to mention.. with the 1.1.3 jailbreak, DRM'd CONTENT WILL NOT PLAY! (That is, stock ringtones and iTMS purchases).. non-drm'd ringtones and all other media is fine.

Have a jailbroken 1.1.3 here and it plays my previously purchased (once synced over with itunes) drm-ed itunes bought songs.

BTW anyone who thinks there phone is bricked make sure you are following the process right to get into recovery mode - I certainly wasn't initally (phone was stuck at white apple logo after 1.1.3 jailbreak attempt)...

"Turn the iPhone on and plug it into iTunes. Put it into DFU mode by holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for 10 seconds. The screen will go black. Let go of the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the Home button for another 10 seconds and iTunes will detect that the iPhone is in recovery mode and display this pop up. Click OK. "

I also have the silent ringtones (no sound on any of them, custom or default ones) and iPod player will not play songs, but will play podcasts,a nd YouTube sound is fine.
Anyone know if a fix for the ringtones / iPod music is being worked on?
Anyone else with these issues - did you go from 1.1.1 jailbroken to Nate's process? Seems like maybe 1.1.2 to Nate's has very few isssues, maybe 1.1.1 to Nate's is common factor on some of these issues ???

Yea I have an OTB 1.1.2 so I always went back up through 1.1.1 -> 1.1.2 -> 1.1.3

Don't have any sound issues at all once I got it working.

Two fixes I've found useful once jailbroken in 1.1.3:

1. Prefs Fix. Run installer. Add source - http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo. There should be a new Tweaks (1.1.3) package section. Install 1.1.3 Prefs Fix. Fixed my bluetooth problems, mail problems, keylock problems (wouldn't take new keycode) and edge problems.

2. Google Maps locator fix - yes it DOES WORK!!! Install LocateMe from the installer. Run LocateMe and locate in it (I had to switch wifi off and try it a few times). Then try the google maps locator - miraculously it works! Woo Hoo :D

Only thing outstanding now is google maps hybrid mode it seems....

I would like to see a jailbreak with the newest baseband also for those that are not unlocking (have AT&T) and just want to have 3rd party apps along with the new features that don't work with an other baseband. I have tried everything I read to get the new baseband. I am on a jb 1.1.3 running the latest baseband but now I can't make calls because i think the patch was faking out 1.1.3 to use an older baseband.

Well, I've done it.. but it doesn't quite work yet unfortunately. 1.1.3 is on there, jailbreaked, with the new baseband... but phone calls don't work :/

Ah well, I'm sure someone will figure it out soon enough. In the mean time I think I'm going to run normal 1.1.3 for the weekend and then try my hand at jailbreaking it again on monday.

my 1.1.3 jailbreak nightmare

I was on a 1.1.1 jailbroken iPhone and decided to install 1.1.3 using Nate true's method. After I upgraded edge, google maps and stock ringtones didn't work.I downgraded back to 1.1.1 but jailbreakme.com didn't work anymore so I downgraded to 1.0.2, jailbroke it then did the upgrade method to go to 1.1.1. By now I was back at 1.1.1 for the 2nd time and tried jailbreakme again. Guess what? It didn't work. This was after spending 4+ hours on this. I decided f**k it and upgraded to 1.1.3 in iTunes and am much happier without this half assed jailbreak. Safari is noticebly faster, google maps works including locateme feature. Oh and I wrote this entire post on my iPhone :)

well guys, i jumped the ship and did it. i'm running the new baseband, and my phone features work. you do this by ssh and replacing the lockdownd file, and then changing the permissions on the file to 777. only thing that doesnt work right is hybrid mode in google maps, it just shows the satellite with no streets. also, my edge doesnt work at all. and when i use the installer to do the "edgefix 1.1.3" under tweaks 1.1.3, it says Package download failed.

this is from modmyiphone:

"snag this lockdownd from http://rs323.rapidshare.com/files/86377952/lockdownd, SSH into your phone and stick it in /usr/libexec. Change Permissions to 777. Reboot your phone and sync it with iTunes once."

I've read the whole thread, but can't definitively confirm that 1.1.2 OTB JB unlocked via StealthSIM is safe and operational under 1.1.3. Is this do-able at all? Or is that what you guys meant by Legit SIM? meaning: only iPhones with actual ATT/O2 subscription and SIM are suscessfully JB-ed to 1.1.3?

Please Help..Thanks!!!

Man I would love to know how to do this. I hate 1.1.3. Everytime I use that guide it says Error (1) at the start. Any tips on restoring back to 1.1.1 and having it work? Thanks!!!!

After experiencing a hellish time updating installer the other day (I think my internet connection died during install?).... I'm a bit leery to jump in just yet. I may try tomorrow. Yes, I'm chicken.

My question is...... Making sure there's 300mb of space. How does one go about seeing exactly how much space is still available in this partition? Thanks

Lisa

Everyone is so quick to use this 1.1.3 jailbreak. I don't know why. In a matter of weeks, a new 1.1.4 will be out with the officially released SDK and I'm sure a slew of new software. Then you're all gonna have to redo your software again.

Just my preference, because I hate going through pain (which is what will likely happen to early adopters), I'll wait for the new software, the SDK and then when the Apple Development Team finds an unlock for that version, I'll unlock my phone so I can use my iPhone abroad.

The benefits just don't seem to outweigh the current risks. IMHO...

Should be able to see it while the iPhone is connected to iTunes or by going to Settings > General > About

And a humble opinion indeed.

Thanks for the completely useless and patronizing post. You obviously haven't done a whole lot of research into the discoveries made by developers as to the frameworks and contents of 1.1.3.

IMHO ;)

Well I had to restore quite a few times. Multiple times at 1.1.1 because sometimes I'd get some stupid error, the SIM error would block me from calling on the emergency call screen or the phone would not go into DFU when I wanted. I did have error 1 a few times. I just kept re-restoring it.

The first restore to 1.1.3 was the hardest to get out of as it blocked me from the start and locked me out of the emergency call screen. I tried quite a few SIMs before the AT&T finally let me escape and get moving. Some stages I just kept redialling the *#307# and eventually it called it instead of refusing because of the SIM error.

Then on the second 1.1.1 (after baseband fix) I had to try 3-4 times restoring to 1.1.1 and jailbreaking before it worked. Combination of wifi suddenly dropping, the phone not auto-rebooting as the guide suggested or just not being able to DFU it for certain steps.

First it was totally bricked. Then usable without the phone. Finally back to how it was on 1.1.1. Restored from my backup and put the 3rd party apps back on. Took about 4-5 hours in all.

Really, if I'd known the maps locate me was not properly working, I wouldn't have bothered. I'm happy it works for some people, though. Actually it made me realise I need the phone and 3rd party apps (NativeCN!) much more than wobbly icons and locate me.

Once you can get back from 1.1.3 then fix the baseband you should be OK. Good luck.

Was the error you recieved (1) or was it the (1015)?

This is what I used but I cannot even get past Restore. It always quits and says Error (1). I have tried 1.1.1 and 1.0.2

HEEELP!!! plz

ok,
so i updated to 1.1.3 (without jailbreak) on my ipod touch. i also bought the 20 dollar applications. now if i want to jailbreak the ipod, i have to go back to 1.1.1 and do that whole process. My question is, if i do the whole jailbreak process, will the 20 bucks i spent go down the drain or will they upload themselves once i plug the jailbroken 1.1.3 back into my computer. thanks

Funny, my iPod messed up my connection as well. I'm restoring to 1.1.1 till everything gets sorted out. My iPod is acting funny.

Down the drain, from what I hear.

I spend several hours getting mine running. I had 1.1.3 to start, so I downgraded to 1.1.1 (didn't downgrade baseband). At that point, I got the phone activated, but it said my SIM card was bad (I am on AT&T with an iPhone Plan). I thought it might go away with Nate's updgrade, so I did it, and it did... it's just, the phone never started working, just stopped giving me the invalid SIM warning. Other than that it was great, but I, you know, actually use my phone, so that was a deal breaker.

fortunately after all that I was able to restore to 1.1.3 pristine and gold again. I found some cool game apps to add to my home screen. They suck big compared to, say, iSolitaire, iBlackJack, and iPhysics, but they are better than nothing in a boring class (you'd think I would be free of those in grad school)...

I upgraded to 1.1.3 on my JB 1.1.2 and when I go to add the 1.1.3 soft upgrade it says "error this package requires firmware 1.1[12].

When I go to itunes and my settings it says I'm running 1.1.3. Any ideas? Has anyone else had this error message?

Think I'm going to start the downgrade to 1.1.2 tomorrow.
