a few bad news too

There has been a lot of focus on what Apple fixed with the new release however, they also broke certain things. When you enter fullscreen mode (the new fullscreen mode, your window does not actually stay on the screen that it was. This is very much what iTunes used to do only now every application does it. Essentially you cannot watch a video in QT in fullscreen on one monitor while doing something else on another. Now that is some serious ***** if you ask me.

Also when you have multiple monitors attached, Mission Control does not work as well as you'd expect. You get a separate set of Mission Control(s) for each monitor connected. Yes not really a problem with most MacBooks but most definitely a problem with professional setups.

Launchpad crashes all the time, so lets hope that gets fixed fast. And also the full screen transition animation is too slow. That last one would be a breeze fixing.

Also for some reason back and forward gestures are with 2 rather than 3 fingers now. I get it that maybe it's a bit too many fingers but Apple changed the default from SL and that's just confusing. Good news though, you can change desktop switcher to 4 fingers and then back and forward work with both 2 and 3 fingers. Lets hope that's not a bug …

Last but probably not least important, going into full screen mode seems to create a new virtual desktop in some cases. It is a bit confusing because there is no indication of the action and sometimes it is not a very logical one because there are empty desktops …

I am sure there are lost of other little annoyances but those are the ones that have gotten on my nerves so far.

My rants aside, application jails is finally here and with Apple's effort and the AppStore, it will make the OS a lot more secure and possibly stable. Unfortunately, the OS is coming out in a month and what we have today is far from being polished. It will take a couple of updates until we get to the usual OS X experience and unfortunately things are just like with previous releases.

When we download and install Lion, will that Welcome video thing come up when we first restart our Mac?

This is well documented and is an advertised feature. I think the indication is that the menu bar and dock slide off the screen. (BTW, if you've just noticed this, where have you been if you have Lion? Scratching my head a little over this one).

Quick look on stacks

I just discovered it so go easy on me if this was not a new feature...

I have just found out that you can "quick look" on items that pop out of a stack in the dock...

Try click on a stack and then simply put the mouse pointer on any item, then press space bar... voilà.
Ain't it swell?

I have a question concerning Launchpad and the F-Keys:

Since Mission Control is using the F3 key as shortcut and Dashboard the F4 key, is there a way to make F5 a shortcut for the Launchpad?

Thanks

Can anyone tell me what new magic mouse gestures are available and how they operate? Also, which aren't available compared to trackpad?

Needed this feature for a long time, seems so simple. But can you somehow 'select' several files at once in the stack to display them in quicklook? Because watching pictures from a stack isn't very ergonomic.
You have to click on the stack, than press the 'open in Finder' button. Cmd + A for select all, press the space bar and it shows you all the files. (And finally the window resizes automatically).
Alternative is to hold command while clicking the stack to open it directly, but it's just not instant. (I'm someone with stacks full of collected pictures that I use several times a day)

Yeah, I wish QuickLook would automatically go to the next or previous picture in the folder even if you only selected a single file. Why do we have to select all of them, and then start from the first file all over again, if I want to quickly look at a few photos one after the other?

Pathfinder does this, and it's a really great feature. I didn't know it was there when I installed it, but it's really helpful for the reasons you outlined.

If there's no setting in Lion itself, you can always install KeyRemap4MacBook and bind anything to anything.

So I installed DP4, upgraded instead of clean install, and unless I'm mistaken you can no longer use small mailbox icons in Mail.app! I checked every menu, checked the plist and I see nowhere to set it. I -hate- the larger mailbox icons. Anyone have any luck or any advice?

It's now a general setting in System Preferences > General > Sidebar Icons Size

Ok, another huge issue that I thought was solved.

My 13" Unibody Macbook Pro won't sleep. Close the lid, display goes off, keyboard darkens but the light on the front doesn't strobe and it won't wake up, it just seems to... die. I've checked all the usual suspects, I have no sharing enabled, the spotlight isn't indexing (well it is at the moment because of the most recent crash, but wasn't before I closed the lid) and I just can't seen to figure out what it is. My wife's older mid-2008 15" Macbook Pro with DP2 sleeps just fine but it's been an issue with this laptop with DP2, DP3 and DP4 so it has to be something I'm missing. Any ideas?

You are acting as if the medium icons are way too big. The large ones really are, but the medium ones? C'mon!
And the small ones are just ridiculously small.

I don't think you have any room to say whether I'm reacting within any norms. I use small icons in Mail.app. I was no longer able to. It was annoying me and obviously annoying me enough that I posted about it. They size of the icons don't bother you. Congratulations. What does? Maybe I'll say you're overreacting to that and we can call it even.

Or you can accept that some things are important to other people and not yourself, and that's perfectly fine.

Seriously are you are acting as if you are new to the internet. Not every comment, especially one that was directed to one so weirdly written as yours, is meant to be insulting or evil. I didn't intend to attack you in any way, I just found it rather amusing how you expressed your feelings about the sizes. But now you are making it more personal with your behavior that is most definitely sounding insulting.
I'm sorry if you misunderstood me, but you try not to take everything so seriously. No one wants to harm you, also i do accept that this is important to you, as I read your post before it had a reply and was about to figure out a solution for you.
