Btw, in TextEdit, you can select the title bar, press Rename, and type the new file name right there without having to go into the Finder to Save As!!! Finally!!!

You can also Move to iCloud if the file isn't in iCloud, or move to the Finder in a place of your choice.

Renaming the file though is something I have been waiting for! Would still be nice to be able to double click the name to rename it, but that might conflict with other behavior.
You could do this in DP1, too :)
Graphite is in Lion (And SL, L, Ti, Pan, Jag, etc.)

I've just installed DP2, and I'm not seeing this for some reason.

Image

One thing I noticed is that it appears that Launchpad no longer spans the entire width of my display. I don't have a trackpad or gestures enabled to toy with the spacing, so it seems the default arrangement may have changed.

Image

You can change the space by holding Command and then touching the trackpad with two fingers and then spreading them. This was in DP1 as well.

iCloud tabs work, if you want to see it work you need to computers with lion installed, or two partitions.

This is a big one for me, since I am so into the "Computer Audiophile" scene -- You can now delete music from within iTunes playlists (!)

Previously you would have to go click "Music" under "Library" and then search for the song(s) you want to delete. Doing it within playlists makes life just *that* much easier :)

Sorry, but that doesn't help anyone who wants 'save as' back. All that does is literally rename the file. It doesn't create another file with a different name like 'save as' does.

What do you mean? This sounds like an iTunes feature, and it has already been there, if you hold down the Alt-key when removing songs from a playlist. How does it work now?

There is a difference between removing a song from a Playlist, and removing it from your Library. Unless I am mistaken, you were not able to delete media from the Library (from the playlist which contains said media) before DP2.

I frequently try out various masters of the same album, just to see which sounds better/has a better DR. So I end up deleting a lot of music...

It certainly works on Lion (via the option key) – were you talking about Mountain Lion only?

Another new feature in DP2 found by 9to5Mac appears to be that the new Reminders app now supports geo-fencing like its iPhone / iPad counterpart, meaning you can trigger notifications based on what network your Mac is connected to.

As tkermit said, option-deleting on a song in a playlist will ask you if you want to remove it from your library. This has always been there.

If you duplicate a file, the title bar will now be highlighted, prompting you to name the duplicate. If you want to put that duplicate in a different place it's not as efficient as save as, but other than that, the functionality is there.

I didn't know Lion provided that feature. It could be that I just went to the Library to delete stuff out of habit, but I was pretty sure it has not been possible to delete things in a playlist (and simultaneously delete from the Library where the music is stored).

I'm not entirely sure, but that might've been there since Leopard ;)

Is it easier in Mountain Lion? Like, if you just press backspace to delete a song, does it ask whether you want to delete it completely or just from the playlist?

Lion? Mountain Lion?

Could you give us 101 with screenshots if possible?

Sorry my bad I meant Mountain Lion,\.

Here is a screenshot:

I had ML installed on a partition and now I've installed it on my main internal drive. The iCloud tabs showing on the picture are the tabs I had open when using ML on the partition.

Feel free to ask my any questions about ML or screenshot requests.

The same for me too with Launchpad...

Another glitch that continues from DP1 regards Safari: it keeps rendering pages with images badly: many times doesn't load images properly and I see the "question mark thumbnail"
Anyone noticing the same?

Maybe try deleting some .plists?

I think there might be something more low level than Safari or a plugin. I get some occasional jitteriness using other video players. But I think people are more interested in features here than bugs. ;)

I've been using alt-delete to delete a song from the library directly from a playlist since around iTunes v3. It's been there for a long, long time.

I did some testing. Turns out that if you have a smaller resolution, the Messages app fills the entire screen to give you as much real estate as possible. At 1280x800, your display is small enough that it'll fill the entire width. My iMac has a 2560x1440 display, and shows empty spaces near the edges when using my max resolution and fullscreen mode.

It's a nice feature. But I won't be using it.
With iCloud being on both my iPhone and Mac, the Reminder (which was originally set up on my Mac) automatically goes live on my 4S too. A real battery killer!!

How interesting. In DP1 it did the same thing even on my MacBook Pro, so perhaps they'll continue to tweak it so it behaves the same on all screens? Makes less sense to hard code in a size limit than to just fill the screen...

Quite fast but still needs work

I had DP2 installed for about 2 days.
Blazing fast!

Still they need to work on glitches and crashes but it is definitely a good alternative for Lion.
I loved SL. Lion disappointed me on speed.

In ML I love the new Safari.
The OS boots at least 40% faster than Lion on MBP 17 inch 2011.
Shut Down is faster too.

I love that they disabled by default the checkbox to relaunch opened applications on restart.

I did experience some crashes:
Notifications swiping doesn't work for me so well.
I had dismissed notifications that showed up after restart.
Graphical glitches after going to sleep mode.
Closing an app will sometimes jump to a full screen opened app like mail.

Overall if they pull this out I will for sure upgrade. I had concerns but DP2 convinced me that indeed it's like Vista to 7 (Lion to ML).

You can also Move to iCloud if the file isn't in iCloud, or move to the Finder in a place of your choice.

How do you move it to a different location? Is that also in the title bar rename menu?

Can anyone test this: can you rename a file you haven't saved yet, and if you do, what happens? Does it remain "unsaved" until you choose a folder or iCloud, so does it still ask for a location when you close the window? And when does Versions kick in?

That seems like a really good way to deal with file locations. I like that. :)

----------

I love that they disabled by default the checkbox to relaunch opened applications on restart.

This would be perfect if re-launching apps put all the windows back on the right Desktops. Does that work in DP2?
