New folder called "Other" in launch pad... crap like DVD Player, stickies, image center and chess. All stuff I believe Apple is going to remove by summer release is in there.

Nice catch on the folder, but gotta disagree. There's absolutely no way Apple is going to remove Time Machine, AirPort Utility, Disk Utility, BootCamp Assistant, Activity Monitor, Terminal, Chess, Console, etc. It's just "Other" because it's some Utilities mixed with a couple other random apps that are apps but not quite utilities. These are most definitely staying, but are now just in a folder by default to avoid cluttering up the Launchpad.

Yeah, I meant just DVD Player, stickies, image center though :) Those are old technology.

In addition to that folder, I think I saw a Utilities folder, which only contained X11.

Mine contains firmware updates too

When downloading a file from Safari, a new progress bar indicator is now present in the "Downloads" stack. Very handy.

Flash Player seems to be working normal and like mentioned before, All My Files is missing its icon.

And very small find, but now in Software Update preferences it has a checkbox for "Automatically Update System Support Files". Not sure what it means though.

This was at least in previous DPs. Don't recall if it's worded like this in Lion, but it's essentially the quarantine/malware definitions update that was introduced with Snow Leopard. I think it used to be in Security but now it is Software Update. Good to mention in case it is new here.

New slick looking Time Machine Preferences.

New General preferences as well.
The bug that allowed old-style Exposé is gone now.
Battery meter no longer uses (), and the option to show time remaining is gone.

I'd say they "fixed" Mission Control for some people in the latest update by allowing you to disable application groups.

Changes to the "Mail, Contacts, & Calendars" Preference pane:

- Chinese services are now hidden under "Show International Services"
- "Add Other Account" allows you to add a custom account via manual configuration.

It still shows when you click to open the menu, but I'm assuming they deemed it too inaccurate to show all the time.

Agreed — I always hated how a lot of people used the time indicator even though it was never accurate and never gave a real estimation of remaining battery life.

fan-****ing-tastic. i will wholeheartedly upgrade to mountain lion now. another question, did they also bring back minimized apps to be shown in mission control, or is that still only present in app expose?

I disagree. It was typically quite accurate, but most people don't understand that a lot of things effect battery life and a change in just one of those things can cause the estimated time to fluctuate, including increased CPU usage, keyboard backlight and screen brightness levels, extreme wifi interference, increased external temperature (fans running harder longer), etc.

The time fluctuated frequently, sure. But not only did it give me an idea as to how long I could continue doing what I was doing on battery power, it was also a simple and early indication when something on my machine needed to be taken care of to keep that time away from the wall socket at maximum. I'd see my estimated time remaining drop from 7 hours to 1.5 hours and I knew I had some errant process going I needed to check up on long before the fans kicked into high gear and without some extra flashing set of colored numbers telling me my exact CPU usage. I don't always need to know such low level info. It would also be helpful in bed when I don't really notice that I could stand to have the screen dimmer and still be comfortable with what I'm doing until I see that with 30% capacity I'm going to only have 45 minutes or whatever of battery time.

Anyway, I know it's not for everyone and I may be able to learn to live without it. It's probably one of those things that were determined to be clutter to the normal user during Apple's latest cruft cut sessions. I just hope there's a hidden preference somewhere to turn it back on.

Battery timer still indicates time until charged.
Safari page transition is smooth again no flashes.
New reading list UI

Also, With the new update, you cant accidentally drag off dock items, the field is now bigger, you have to drag the icon farther up now to get rid of it.

As a web designer, when we mockup websites in Photoshop with custom fonts, they look great. But when you finally build them and load them in Safari, the fonts all look like you have set them to bold, even when they are not.
You have got this the wrong way around buddy. Anti-aliasing in Photoshop is horribly horribly subpar to system rendering. And one of the reasons I far prefer to skip photoshop altogether and prototype with HTML and CSS directly these days.

Don't know if its been mentioned already, but today's update seems to have given reading list the ability to download webpages for offline reading.

It really should have had this to start with but still, better late than never....

I'm not sure it'll make me swap from instapaper though.

EDIT: Nope I was wrong, it said that it was "saving for offline" but doesn't actually do it. Maybe it was just means it was saving the title and favicon for offline. Shame.

They did have a file progress indicator before in the file's icon. I presume now the progress bar is for all files that are being downloaded right now?
Is there the same progress bar on folder stacks if files are being copied into them?
