I'm way more interested in the Mac than iOS. Kind of sad it's more of after-thought than iOS now. I knew when it was presented first it meant iOS would take precedence. And it's kind of reflected in that we're not seeing as many people download 10.9 and post pictures, yet at least. Although, I guess a download and install takes more time than for iOS, but still I think iOS is where people's interest is at.

As a long-term Mac user, I'm most curious to see if some nasty bugs introduced in Lion and carried over to Mountain Lion are still there. I'm less interested in big features and more in just a solid, good operating system that works. I can live with linen and leather texture I don't like. The bugs are what annoy me. Things that would excite me would be seeing if there are any changes to TextEdit, QuickTime, etc.

Or little things that annoy me, like does the horizontal scroll bar in the Finder still cover the bottom item when you try to click on it (the bottom-most item is partially covered by the scroll bar but becomes almost totally covered when the scroll bar magnifies)? That happens to me all the time.

To be completely fair iOS had a major overhaul this year, meaning mavericks should be second to that. Next year when OS X, or XI comes out and looks and feels more like iOS 7, i would expect it to take precedence. Its a game of catchup right now, but next year the tables will turn.

Oh god, I hope not. And, I doubt (hope I'm right) they would do that. iOS is not a general purpose operating system. There are many things about iOS 7 that work fine on the consumer iOS devices that just don't fit in OS X. There will be technologies behind the iOS UI that will benefit from work on OS X (though there are some things that have made it to OS X from iOS, such as the hidden scroll bars and natural scrolling that have worked fine). iOS may be based on OS X, but it is very scaled down.

I don't have time to look through all pages in this thread, but did you know that Quicklook also works in Dock stacks? Just hover over supported file type and hit Space. Pretty neat.

That's cool, thanks. I'm running Leopard on my iMac G4 but I don't have any other macs :( If only I could get my iMac soon...

By the way, how stable is Mavericks compared to ML?

I meant from more of a GUI perspective. Ie colour scheme and icon flow. But yes, a lot of features have trickled between platforms, some your missing are iMessage and launchpad.

I should have clarified a bit - I primarily meant the UI. Actually, I've softened a bit on my opinion of the UI after seeing a video today. There have already been some design features, like icons, used in Lion, and a more so in ML, that have become part of standard system set in iOS 7. Those are actually nice, by themselves, and I think they are part of what makes ML feel more refined than Lion. It looks like Mavericks will continue that look. Many other UI features in iOS 7 can't really fit into OS X.

I wouldn't mind this design for OS X:

Not bad.

P.S. suddenly smooth zoom in safari doesnt work anymore, doesnt show animation, dunno what is the cause :D

Suddenly, after looking at that, OS X looks antiquated.

I think a major UI haul of this proportion would substantiate an eventual move to OS XI. But somehow, it feels like OS X still has plenty of life in it. It's going to be an interesting next 2-3 years to see what happens...

Definitely don't like the colorless close/minimize buttons in the title bar but other than that I could see myself getting used to it. If Mac OS X follows what iOS 7 has done then I fully expect to see a lot of the grey replaced with white.

No no no, I do not want the ugliness of iOS 7 on an OS X desktop. Let them have their LSD infused operating system. They got rid of the linen, which was enough (I never liked that anyway).

UHM..I just noticed this..

I went onto the App Store and noticed that one of my apps needed updating-which is rare because it does it all for me. It installed and everything and as soon as I went into Launchpad it had a ridiculously cool little animation sparkle around the app.

Cool little thing I noticed. My bad if already posted tho.

What sparkle? Can you post an image?

You say colorless like it's bad. I have used graphite appearance since 1.0. :p

I'm sure you'd see the same "x" "-" "+" when you hover over the buttons. Plus, if you haven't memorized which button does what by now, something is wrong.

Hi, you guys really point out many details. As I am reading through all the pages. I have two questions:

1. What is the version number of python in Mavericks? i.e. in terminal "python --version" or "python3 --version"
2. About 10.8's mission control, there is an option "When switching an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application" in system preferences, but some built-in app (yes Finder, the most important one) doesn't behave according to the setting. It's very frustrating when I trying to staying concentrate on a certain space when there is Finder's window already open in any other space.

May I know how are these going in 10.9 please?
