You can lock your iPhone while recording a Voice Memo, good for lectures and notes.

As you can see, I have the 3G with the battery percent indicator.

How did you get it to display the %?

Spotlight does not let you search by actual phone numbers, birthdays or addresses. However, it does allow you to search by nicknames (provided that you have a nickname for a contact).

An example is my husband, I have his nickname under "CuTe MaTt <3" (what I entered him when we started dating years ago). I searched "Cute" and "<3" and his name appeared under the search results.

well YOU sound like a keeper.

just kidding

anyways - i like the 3.0 feature that made my iPhone not work for half the day while upgrading!

I don't know if this has been said or not but...

In the Youtube Application, if you move the little white thing that you use to skip(Don't know what it's called),now "lights" up when you press down on it, making it easier for you to see where you are skipping to.

also i forgot, you can use copy and paste with the calculator to copy results to be used later.

haven't seen this listed yet...

in settings under messages, you can turn off "show preview." now when your phone is locked and you get a new text it simply displays the name of the contact and "text", rather than showing the content of the message. much more discrete!

I didn't check all 26 pages to see if anyone else saw this change but on the AppStore on my iPhone I no longer get the More tab but the Updates tab only. Did they change this or did I mess something up?

me neither i saw that this afternoon there was a REDEEM button shared with updates.

My "More" button in the appstore vanished. Anyone notice this? Perhaps Apple can control this Redeem option from afar thus impacting the tabbar

I noticed this too and was confused. I thought that my phone reverted to 2.0 in some mystical and magical way.

I just noticed that when turing your iPhone upside down in Voice Memos, the app changes to your devices new position. Does not react into landscape positions, though.

Contact Birthdays on Calendar??

Has anyone seen if Birthdays from Contacts are shown on the calender?

This worked in the first version and stopped working at ver 2.21.. Even with Birthdays Published in iCal they show on my mac and on MobileMe, but do not show on the iPhone.

Usually when you add a birthday to a contact, that birthday would automatically appear on the calender. When this function stopped, I began missing everyone's birthday. Apple acknowledged this was something that was a problem. I was hoping they got it fixed, but I still don't see it in mine.

Anyone??

You can get them back on by publish the birthday calendar and typing that URL under calendar subscriptions.

The only problem with this is that it displays a dot on everyday - regardless of whether there is an event or not on that day.

So is there any known reason for this? I would sorta like to know how and why it was there and then not. Other than that irritating toggle and some iTunes account glitch, I'm loving 3.0.

I also discovered that not only can you lock the phone while recording, you can leave the app and use your device as you would in a phone call. You then tap the top of the screen that remained red to go back, like the green during a call. Pretty cool stuff.

More on international keyboards

I've found out, after playing around with activating and deactivating various international keyboards, that the options you get increase with the number of keyboards open. This means that:

• with more keyboards open, in any given keyboard, pressing and holding on number, punctuation or special character keys will show the options for all other activated keyboards. So if you have a Spanish keyboard open as well as an English one, pressing and holding on 4 will also give you 4ª and 4º as options. If you have Thai and/or Arabic keyboards activated, you will also get the corresponding Thai/Arabic numeral symbols. With the Arabic keyboard activated, you will also get the Arabic backward question mark, comma, semi-colon and percentage symbol by pressing and holding on the relevant Roman symbol.
• depending on what keyboards you have open, you get more options by pressing and holding down on the .com key. In addition to .net, .org and .edu, you will also get the usual country abbreviations for the countries each activated keyboard normally applies to. Unfortunately, Canada still is left with the short end of the stick in English keyboards: the only way to get .ca as an alternative to .com is to activate the French (Canada) keyboard alongside the (US) English or the UK English keyboard so you can get .ca on your English keyboard. If you have the Spanish keyboard activated, it unfortunately only gives you .es as an alternative, and no abbreviations for Latin American countries or Equatorial Guinea.
• Interestingly enough, there are many more options for international formats
for date and time than there are for text entry keyboards. As well as options for Catalan, Basque and Galician in Spain and Welsh, Cornish (!) and Manx (!) but *not* Gaelic (!) in Britain (though Ireland *does* have Irish...), there are options for displaying date, time and phone number formats in local scripts that currently have no keyboard. These include Vietnamese (Roman with complex combinations of diacritics), Maltese (Roman with some diacritics), Devanagari script languages (India), Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi and Urdu (India) and Urdu and Punjabi (Pakistan). (As I pointed out in my earlier post, the Arabic keyboard has press and hold alternative letters for Persian, but not for Urdu or other Arabic script languages with extra characters. Although the International menu has choices for different month names and Roman versus native Arabic numerals for various Arabic countries *and* for Arabic script Urdu and Punjabi in Pakistan, there is no International format setting for Iran or Afghanistan, even though Persian is available with alternative characters.
• There is a confusing inconsistency in the Arabic keyboard for normal typing (notepad or the body of email messages) versus entering text in an URL field or in email header fields. For normal text entry, tapping on the numbers button gives you all the regular native Arabic numerals, punctuation marks (including backard question mark for example) and special symbols (e.g. Arabic percentage symbol), and pressing on them gives you the Roman equivalents. In URL or email header fields, tapping on the numbers button gives you all Roman numbers and punctuation (and the question mark hidden away on the second, "special characters" keyboard, and you have to press and hold to get the normal Arabic equivalents! And to make it even more confusing, if you are working in an email, the secondary keyboards change depending on whether you have tapped in a header field or the main body of the email...!

Didn't read thread but didn't see it in OT. Nor did I know if it could be done in 2.0 . But I found it today either way and I'm happy :).

Instead of swiping to move between your home screen and pages of apps/spotlight you can just press the screen on the lower right or lower left above the dock. Perfect for the people that detest incessant swiping.

yup you could do that before too

I've been able to sync my subscribed calendars (Birthdays, Holidays to name 2) from iCal to iPhone with the new sync calendars when you plug your phone into your computer. They never synced over mobile me foe me, so i just have the 2 subscriptions syncing on a typical sync and it works beautifully.

You're not alone. My App Store app has done the same thing. It's like it has morphed or something or reverted back to 2.2.1. Very weird. I just wonder how they were able to do this. Is this a glitch or was Apple remotely able to change this? Nevertheless, I wasn't a big fan of the "more" tab anyways.

great forum here, keep it up. I also noticed by pushing space bar twice automatically puts a period at the end of your sentence. is this new?

New for the last 2 years.

it's available on the 3GS only

And on previously jailbroken phones that enabled this feature.

I have noticed that the autofill is much more comprehensive. For example, it autofilled "adenovirus" after I had typed "adeno".
