Adding someone to a call

Before the 3.0, when during a call if you pressed for 3 seconds the "keypad" button, a second screen appeared with the number and call time overlapped (apparently a bug) and a small button for "send". Now this doesn't overlaps and the button works to add another person to the present call.

Sorry if someone posted this already:

You can swipe to individually delete texts (by person).

Speedy picture trashing...

Not really a new feature, but pictures now get sucked into the trash can way speedier than before. Zip and it's gone in a blur!

app store images

in the app store when viewing an app description, you can now swipe through to view all screenshots rather than having to click to a separate page to view the images.

Not a new feature, just a question from someone who hasn't been able to update yet.. in the iPod music app, does it scroll long song titles/album names? Or is there a "Shuffle by Album" feature? It kills me not to have those features - I hate that some iPod functionality was removed with the iPhone/iPod Touch when it would be so easy to implement.

swipe to delete lines in contacts

When viewing a contact, if you see a bad/old phone #, you can just swipe to delete that line instead going through the old edit process.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but it made my day.

I have an infiniti G37 with the ipod/iphone hookup. When i play podcasts and i click the track button up or down it would go to the next or previous podcasts.

Now what it does it goes to the next song in the podcast!!! So instead of holding down the tack button to fast forward i just click it once to go to the next songs.

Just noticed a search bar inside the podcast sections also.

Also not sure but the web pages seem more stable (2G)
for example when i leave a web page to go to an app or another page and then go back to the original web page it would automatically re load the page.
Now its much more stable i actually went back to the web page 2 hours later to find it did not reload on me. Unfortunately i tried it again after a couple hours and it reloaded.

Swipe to return

Not sure if this is new to the 3.0 firmware.

But if you are inside the iPod app and listening to music and you are on the screen that is showing the cover art, you can swipe the cover art to the right to go back to the previous screen. (instead of hitting the back arrow in the upper left)

I seem to remember being able to do this in 2.0?

International keyboards

There are several interesting features with international keyboards.

1. In the Arabic keyboard you can type additional Persian letters by holding down the equivalent basic Arabic letter and sliding your finger over to the Persian letter jîm for chîm, kâf for gâf, zā' for zhe etc.) on the pop-up. The only alternative letters are for Persian though, nothing specifically for Urdu, Kurdish, Pashto etc.

2. Holding down on Arabic style numbers or punctuation gives a pop-up with the Roman equivalent (and in the Arabic keyboard, holding down on Roman punctuation and symbols gives any Arabic equivalent).

3. When you are using two or more keyboards with different text directions in the same text entry field, the select (all),cut, copy, and paste options on the pop-up menu are joined by an additional option for changing text direction. As far as I can tell, this works anywhere in the text and no matter what keyboard you currently have selected. The screenshot shows the cursor in Romanian text with the Arabic keyboard but it also works in any other text area with an English keyboard. However, in a new paragraph after hitting return with the English keyboard — with nothing else typed —, I didn't get the bidirectional option.

4. When you press and hold D, the characters pop-up shows two Đ characters side by side. The first is Croatian and Roman Serbian Đ with lower case đ; the second is Icelandic Ð with lower case ð. In the last shot, since I'm in the Czech keyboard, it's suggesting a Czech word for the sequence of three non-Czech letters!

I also notice that you can only easily copy and paste more than one extra image into an email if you are using the email app to mail your images. If you try doing so using the send option in your photo album, you have a limit of one paste. Copying and returning into the albums sends you back to your email from Images window. Is there some workaround I'm missing here?

No and no.

I tested long artist and song titles on the normal ipod app screen, the pop up menu, as well as the locked screens that provide access to viewing the song title, then the controls. all of them just have ellipses, no scrolling. Sad Christmas.

Tried searching, but didn't find a yea/nay.

If you sync calendars with google, then your desktop do the colors of the calendars change. I can't remember which one won, but I believe google would change the colors on the iDevice.

Second can you change the calendar/color of an appointment after it has been created?

Thanks

Still can NOT delete an individual call number from the call log. We can delete an individual SMS or an email, but why not an individual telephone number? C'mon Apple. This should be a basic feature by now, as is on other name brand smartphones.

I have the battery percentage meter on my iPod Touch 1st gen

I have that feature as well, on my iPhone 3G. :)

Edit: I just read around, yes, I used to be jailbroken and did have the numerical battery enabled. If you've had this feature before, you know that even upon unjailbreaking [?] that it stays enabled. In iPhone 3.0, it moves the feature over in the menu bar. I must say I like knowing my percentage, and find it useful even though not every 3.0 user has it, except the soon to be 3G S users.

My two cents :p

Google Maps now guesses actual address?

Is this new in 3.0, I don't remember seeing it in 2.2?

When you click on the locate me icon on the bottom left of the screen the blue dot google maps will guess the address and you can now email this location to anyone.

I just got an e-mail that had the phrase "place to meet after 5," and "to meet after 5" was a link to the map app, which then tried to find such a place. :)

So the new feature is that in the mail app (and maybe elsewhere), it tries to figure out the addresses or places and make it easy for you to find them.

The volume scrubber bar isn't on the screen when the iPod touch 2nd Gen is plugged into a speaker.

This says that it only applies to an ipod touch 1st gen

iCal and Addressbook syncing and Exchange syncing at the same time

I couldn't find a post that points this out, but it is now possible to sync with iCal and Addressbook locally on the computer as well as over the air with Exchange, as opposed to either one or the other before the upgrade to 3.0

My "More" button in the appstore vanished. Anyone notice this? Perhaps Apple can control this Redeem option from afar thus impacting the tabbar

Yeah, mine disappeared too... it was there yesterday, it's gone today. Also, I get a login dialog when I check for updates. It does continue to check in the background apparently though even if I don't enter my password. Weird!

Auto correction on the word "for" instead of "fir"

This always bugged me a little bit. While typing on the virtual keyboard, it was an easy mistake to type "fir" when trying to type "for." Obviously "for" is a MUCH more common word to be used instead, so now when you type "fir" it auto-corrects it to "for."

Silly, but very useful for me. I was excited when I found this.
