I didn't read anything about this: it's much, MUCH easier to move your apps around to a different home page than before. You just keep the app icon at the edge and the page slides over easier. Before, you had to do a little wiggle dance at the end and hope it doesn't screw up the order. You know what I'm talking about.

You can now scroll through sample pictures in the App Store, rather than selecting them.

Auto-correct

The iPhone now suggests the capitalization both Jesus and Christ. (way to be accepting, apple. you couldn't even train it to do that before) :)

It also (finally) stops trying to auto-correct 'white' to 'White', which has been an issue on all the UK iPhones and iPod touches I have tried running 2.x (I have no idea if this was a problem on other English language phones).

It looks like they have made auto-correct better for Christians, people who like to swear (thank duck for that), and people who don't have the surname 'White'.
Smiles all round then.

in voice memos...

When you 'tap' the image of the mic on screen the VU meter jumps as if to imitate tapping/testing a real mic

I found a new one, dunno if anyone said it yet though.

When you plug in your ipod touch to your computer, the home screen stays on instead of showing the battery icon. It only shows the battery icon when it is syncing something.

EDIT: Im actually not sure about this one... it could just be a bug or my computer is being stupid.

Messages App

New Feature which has not been posted:

When sending a text message in poor service areas, if the message is unable to send, a red ! icon will appear that displays a menu when clicked "try again" or "cancel."

My "More" button in the appstore vanished. Anyone notice this? Perhaps Apple can control this Redeem option from afar thus impacting the tabbar

Searched but I couldn't find this one (how ironic :/ )

In Settings > General > Home > Search Results you can order how spotlight presents results, and can check and uncheck different filetypes / apps to include or exclude them from search.

Stocks in Landscape

When you turn the Stocks app sideways, you get a more detailed view of the chart. Touch the chart to see a detailed quote, touch with two fingers to see net change between two specific dates (or times if it's a 1d chart). Swipe to switch between stocks.

Regarding:

• you can now encrypt your iPod/iPhone backups in iTunes (found by phillipjfry)

This is clearly stated on Apples 3.0 software upgrade list.

"• Encrypted iTunes backups"

So this is not a "hidden" feature and should be removed from the list I would think....sorry...

I received an SMS (text message) and did not immediately view it. I got the standard 5-minute alert, but I also got another one at the 10-minute mark. I'm pretty sure that's new in OS 3.0.

The option to redeem is now only present in the itunes store, no longer in the app store.

FLow

Cover flow icons are now much bigger than before. There is no space between the bottom on the black area, and the album cover

Hold Camera Shutter

If held, the camera shutter button will take a picture upon being released. Great for taking pictures of yourself or steadying the camera before a shot.

In iTunes, on the iPhone page when it's connected, you can now Encrypt iPhone Backup and it prompts you to choose a password to protect it.

This is on Apple's list, so it's not a "hidden" feature.

"• Encrypted iTunes backups"

On the tip "There is a new iPhone setting under phone numbers in the contacts. It still has home, mobile, work, etc, but also now has iPhone (found by Excellerator)"

This does not work on a non-3G iPhone. The option doesn't appear.
There's a LOT of missing stuff on non-3G phones.

Beg to differ. I have iPhone 8gig black Original Model A1203 bought 2 weeks after the very first launch and the ability to assign/add phone numbers to the "iPhone" type is there - I just tried and it works.

I'm actually pretty sure this is documented somewhere (on the phone I believe).

But if you are just at the home screen and click the home button it goes straight to spotlight. I thought it might be double click, but just one click.

LoganT - I'll second this "hidden" feature. Obviously new functionality since we never had Spotlight search before. Works on my iPhone Original with 3.0 - it may be documented deep in Apple's tutorials, but I believe this list is for "hidden" as in not on the Apple list of features. Also, I think the "developer" updates (as mentioned by someone else in the thread) are excluded since those are not available to the general public.

Ive had MobileMe and Exchange for quite some time now. I think you are referring to it wouldnt let you manually sync contacts and Exchange contacts. You had to have Mobile me to have contacts outside Exchange.

Not sure if thats changed in 3.0

I'm sure something has changed here, (as I have previously posted).

I am almost sure I couldn't have both Exchange and Mobile Me syncing on my iPhone. If I turned Exchange syncing on for anything other than email, it would warn me that my existing contacts/calendar would be overwritten.

I posted a screen shot I found on the web earlier I used to get. Unless I was doing something wrong and it's just coincidence I stumbled on it today looking around.

Regardless, I'm happy I have them both now on my iPhone.

Sure about that? That was one of my major reasons for looking at a Pre.

I know I could have multiple calendars from a single source, (I have always had 2 Mobile Me calendars - a work and personal one), however I am 99.9% sure you couldn't have calendars from multiple sources, (eg Exchange and Mobile Me).

Either way, the fact I can now see both has made me a happy bunny!

- D

EDIT: You could be right TechFreak85. Found a Wikipedia article which says this from OS 2.0:

Calendar
Multiple calendars supported in Calendar with color coding (desktop colors only preserved if using Mobile Me)
New "Calendar" menu in "Settings"
Push calendar

However, I'm not sure of this includes calendars from multiple sources. I was 99.9% sure that previously when I enabled my Exchange calendar on my iPhone it said it would stop my Mobile Me calendar being sync'd (or something like that!).

Anyway, like I said, a happy bunny here in Oxfordshire!!

Multiple calendar sync was there pre-3.0. At least if you were Exchange syncing.

Adding someone to a call

Before the 3.0, when during a call if you pressed for 3 seconds the "keypad" button, a second screen appeared with the number and call time overlapped (apparently a bug) and a small button for "send". Now this doesn't overlaps and the button works to add another person to the present call.
