My last post said that I was going to wait until IOS 12 before updating.

Well, that was until something called "Apple Store Audio" appeared in my battery usage three days ago and started using 80% of my charge daily !!! I have now updated to 11.4 and, so far, battery usage has returned to normal (all day on one charge ending up at about 40%).

I have no idea what "Apple Store Audio" is.

So, back to normal I hope. (conspiracy theory - did Apple introduce it to make me update ? Surely not.)

I just got a new SE (Samsung chip) and it comes with iOS 11.2.6, you recommend not updating to 11.4 yet, right?

Does anyone know if you can get second d hand iOS devices with 10.x or lower) still on them?

I bet iOS devices with their original iOS release go for a fortune in the dog days of 11.x ie:
  • 7 series with 10.x
  • 6s series & SE with 9.x
  • 6 series with 8.x
  • 5s with 7

Anyone else having big battery drain and phone becoming very hot at a point the screen will dim after 5-6 minutes when watching YouTube videos? I only have this problem on my phone. It’s litterally impossible to watch videos on YouTube without my phone to almost overheat and lose all my battery in minutes.

There is talk about the 5GHz wifi issue over at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8409995?start=30&tstart=0.

My iPhone 6S modem firmware on IOS11.3.1 is 4.56.00. Does this modem firmware control the wifi chipset or just the LTE?

If the issue is related to 5GHz, I wonder if only certain 5GHz routers are affected, and why? Is there some security update they have or wifi chipset firmware that conflicts?

Mine is a Netgear R7800 running 1.0.2.52 firmware. The R7800 uses the Qualcomm Atheros wifi chipset.

If it was all about wifi it shouldn't be happening when using cellular instead of wifi, but it is. Sorry, I don't think that's it.

Hasn't YouTube been a known app to have bugs related to battery drain in the past?
Try and uninstall the app and view via Safari, do you get the same issue?

The battery drain could be related to apps that isn't working correctly, my 5 cent is that YouTube along with many other popular apps could be related to the battery drain problem, but its just a guess.

If the issue if related to 5GHz, I wonder if it's with all 5GHz routers/access points or only with some?

Anybody had good 5GHz without battery drain in some locations and bad with battery draining in others?

In my case, two days after update to 11.4 and initial problems with battery draining it looks like the problem solves itself. Now, during the night the battery dropping only 4%. I'm using 5Ghz WiFi. Only thing what I did was network settings reset, and reconnect to my WiFi network. But I don't know if this related to disappearing problem with battery

Yep when switching to 2GHz wifi mine got fixed as well and the standby is perfect now all the time. 11.4.1 Beta.

Ever since i switched to iOS all my devices havent had any app issues this is strictly a 11.4 issue with 5GHz for the 6s/SE

Not sure how long you have had 11.4 or 11.4.1 beta installed, but the only way to verify that it is related to the Wifi 2,4 or 5Ghz band is that you change back to 5Ghz and see if the battery drain starts again.
That way we can rule out post-processing jobs and other suggestions that has been up for discussion.

I had this issue on my iPad Air 2, but not on my iPhone X (both of them updated to 11.4 and using the same 5G Wifi). I tried everything on the iPad (hard reset, changing to 2GHz WiFi, waiting a few days for the system to re-index), but nothing seemed to work.

What did the trick -at least for me- was a Network Settings reset, and the re-connecting to my 5G Wifi. Now the battery drain is back to normal.

About 4 days now i think? The first 2 i kept it at 5GHz and got the same battery drain overnight but now 2 nights in a row the drain has been normal only dropping 2-3 percent every night like my other iDevices. Also i don't mind using 2GHz on it, its basically a ipod for me and id rather have all my main devices on 5GHz.

Since updating to 11.4 (see post 177) my phone (SE) has had no battery issues at all. I end the day with about 40% remaining power - normal for me.

I'm restoring my 6s now to see if that fixes the battery drain. It was at 100% five hours ago and dropped to 46% with the screen off in standby.

Update: restoring seems to have fixed the battery drain issue. iPhone has been in standby for over 2 hours and it's still at 100%.

This is a frustrating bug to hunt down - the batteries in my parents' iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both started draining fast after I upgraded them to 11.4 from 11.3.1 (stupid mistake on my part to upgrade them when they were trouble-free). I switched them from 5 Ghz to 2.4 wifi but the batteries continued to drain rapidly until I reset the network settings. That seemed to fix the problem. Unfortunately, after a day, my dad's iPhone 6 started to drain fast again. It was at 27% last night at midnight and dead six hours later this morning after being on standby overnight. I will try restoring next but it seems like you have to wait several days to see if the apparent fix sticks.

Installed it on my iPhone 8, missus iPhone 7 and the iPad pro 9,7 yesterday and it all seem to work fine.
WE use the 5Ghz network at home.

Now, the report on the missus phone isn't to be taken to seriously yet, I did ask and she said it was OK, well see what she says after after using it for a day.
She has all the apps in the world and an apple watch, not sure what CPU tho.

The iPad pro seem (again non scientific) to hold its charge slightly better after using it and having it idle, but its just to early to tell, only had it for a day.

Anyone one else? My works SE’s (att) battery is dropping 100% to 20% within 5-8 hours without use after i installed 11.4.

I can still sign previous ios? This is rough.
My iPhone 8 is using more powe since 11.4.

Updated, iPad is also affected.

As an example, if I fully charge both devices by 11pm, they are down 7% by 6 pm, around 50% by that evening, light use, and mostly connected to my home wifi.

Glad I’m not the only one having this issue. I took my phone off the charger about 45 min ago and it’s dropped 13% already just reading news articles. I also have to charge my phone twice throughout the day now. Usually by lunch it’s below 50% and then by 5-6PM down from 100% to 30%. Oh well still a great phone

A day after restoring to 11.4 the battery drain issue came back. I installed the 11.4.1 beta 2 and so far my 6s is still at 100% after an hour of listening to music with the screen off.

I think I may install 11.4.1 PB to see if it improves my X battery life. My IPP seems ok on 11.4. But I’m a heavy user of my phone during the day when I don’t have my iPad with me.
