I cancelled my 256 order and went with the 1tb option

The 6 gigs of ram was the clincher for me , should hopefully future proof it a little more...
Nothing needs 6gb of ram its stupid its just cos 1tb needs it no one can fill a ios device with that

I'm doing the same. Just using it to watch stuff on, and you hear people say "only go for the big one if you are using it as a laptop replacement". Yeah right...

I spent an hour struggling in the Apple Store, finally decided to go with the 12.9".

For two reasons:
1. I am using it to watch TV shows and read pdf files a lot, the bigger screen size seems more real to me.
2. App optimization.

Anyone get the keyboard and is second guessing it?

I have the keyboard for the 12.9” and I don’t care for it, i preferred the previous generation Smart Keyboard. I’ll likely keep it and just use it when I need a keyboard but I feel like it adds so much bulk to the iPad and can be a little awkward.

I, like most coming from a 10.5, had the tough decision between 11 or 12.9.

I reserved both, and assessed the size differences in the Apple Store. I can only echo the opinions about the 12.9 making the 11 look like a mini. This was the main reason for me opting for the 12.9.

24 hours later I am starting to second guess myself

I primarily use the iPad at home / bed as a casual consumption device. Very little productivity work.
I travel fairly infrequently, maybe a couple of times a month at most, so portability is not a major factor for me.

I might be crazy, or just need time to adjust, but I'm not sure if the size is intimidating my view. The same viewing angles / positions are requiring me to thinking about where i'm looking and scanning the screen. Is this just me or have others had this feeling???

I am going to give myself until the weekend to decide and may end up switching out for an 11. Has anybody, in the UK, had any issues returning based not being completely satisfied within the 14 days?

Same exact issue! The 12.9 feels.. to big for a tablet? It’s too big for browsing while on my lap etc. and it’s too heavy for one handed use. I felt like I constantly had to readjust to try and get comfortable using it in the couch and in bed.

Rough decision. The 11 is so much more comfortable but obviously video is better on the 12.9

For me 11 was the way to go. I love being able to type with both thumbs in portrait mode. Also my main use case is browsing the internet and YouTube in bed so the 12.9” just felt too big.

Although I decided after seeing the iPads in person that 12.9 is the way to go for me considering the redesign (smaller), I think the preference will vary by use case. I don’t plan to use my iPad on-the-go (that would require lots of hand-holding while using). I got my iPad to take meeting notes, write documents, annotate PDF, create to-do lists for easy reminders, and e-mail (these are all work related) and for personal use, light gaming and browsing.

I used to strictly go for handwritten notes in classes and studying on-the-go (like on a bus) when I was a student not too long ago, so smaller form factor of 10.5” (and 11”) was the obvious choice given my use case. Now I use keyboards a lot as I have to type very fast to keep track of everything that’s said in meetings for work, handwriting is an afterthought for comments to my notes or annotations on documents. 12.9” now is the perfect device for me.

So, this is really just down to preference and your use case scenario. There is no one perfect device for everyone.

Loving my 12.9. Went from a mini to this and it is great. I think if you are going to use it a lot for work, especially with emails and such, the bigger screen doesn’t have me squinting, etc.

The more and more I use it, the more and more I fall in love with the size.

I agree. Books and magazines are amazing on it

I had an 11 inch waiting on me at the Apple Store yesterday. But while I was waiting for them to bring it back, I was strongly tempted by the 12.9. I think it has something to do with Apple's display.

I fought off temptation, reminding myself that I had fourteen days to return it if I changed my mind. Once I got the iPad away from the store, the 11 inch felt much larger, and I'm happy with my choice.

So I wonder how many people here only buy a iPad just to watch videos. I mean it is loke buying a Aston Martin Car and saying well, I will only drive it on my way to buy my groceries from the supermarket that's all I would do with it.

I did. I watch a ton of YouTube and the 11” is perfect for holding on the couch or in bed

Went with the 12.9 yesterday, just returned it and came out with the 11¨ due to two reasons. First it was a bit top heavy to hold while on the couch or tv in portrait mode and most importantly it was very difficult to type with my thumbs which Is how I use my iPad 90% of the time.

Just setup the 11 inch version and so far very happy with it even though it doesn’t feel as a substantial upgrade from my 10.5.

OK, setting up my 12.9. I wasn’t sold on the bigger footprint, until I actually saw the 12.9 in person. As others have said, the 11 looks tiny next to it’s big brother. So far, I’m liking the larger screen and the roomier keyboard.

Like I said before, I’ve got an 11 sitting in my office at home that I’ll probably take out and take a look at tomorrow, but now, I’m thinking the 12.9 is a keeper. We shall see.

A few random observations:

The magnets on the keyboard folio are STONG. I have to man-handle this bad boy to change the viewing angle and fold the keyboard back. It’s probably just me needing to get a feel for how everything folds up and back and whatnot.

Screen is awesome.

Keyboard is nice, roomy and easy to type on. Still wish there were some dedicated function keys like on the Logitechs, but it’ll do for now.

It’s snappy, but not heads and shoulders above the 9.7 Pro this is replacing.

I’m still loading apps and all that fun stuff, so let me finish this beer and fire up some Netflix to see how it looks and sounds. Going to be a fun few days until I dial this puppy in!

EDIT/UPDATE: OK, I’m really digging this 12.9. I picked up a folio case along with the keyboard folio and with the case only, it’s a svelt little number. With the keyboard it’s a little chunkier but no more chunkier than my 9.7 with the ASK/silicone case. In fact, the 12.9 with the keyboard is just a hair thinner than the 9.7 and ASK/case combo. With just the folio case, it’s a lot thinner than the 9.7 ASK/case! I’m super impressed with the size of this thing. It really is almost all screen and not nearly the monster I thought it was going to be. Again, at the store, the 11 look tiny compared to the 12.9. Not to poo poo those who have the 11, I’m just pleasantly surprised I like the 12.9 as much as I do right now.

Pretty sure I made the right choice here.
It is amazing. I took my 11” back to the Apple Store and love the 12.9”

I've been struggling with the same dilemma. Spent an hour at the Apple Store. My use for the iPad is as a companion device, mostly consumption w/ newspapers, browsing, reading books, video in bed or kitchen, use when traveling, note taking, and occasional use with Word, Powerpoint, PDF marking, etc. The 12.9 is such a draw-- the screen real estate is incredible and the overall size is much more manageable than the old 12.9. However, I got the 11 because it's so much easier to handle as a tote-around a portable companion device.

After spending an hour at the store I got the 11" yesterday and like it.. but after reading all the posts here I started wondering if I made the right choice.

Went back and got the 12.9", figured I can use them side by side for a few days, then keep the one I like more.

Here's a question. More than half of my iPad use consists of lying in bed, on my side, reading the iPad in portrait mode while it's resting on the mattress, with the iPad sitting pretty close to my face. Does anyone here use a 12.9 like this, and if so, is it perfectly fine, or does the size make it a little awkward?

I had the original 12.9" and there is no way I could use it in bed. The new one is smaller but for me it's still too bulky for awkward angle use, especially laying down and holding it over yourself.

If I wanted to watch something in bed I would put it on a chair next to the bed.

Setting up the new 12.9" now. I'll test out various use scenarios with that & the 11" and report back.

Ok after having been to the store I can sleep assured to have made the right call on the 11”. The 12.9” is still HUUUUGE with the folio attached to it. No way I’m gonna carry this around the office or a movie set. I’m happy.

This is not a troll post, I swear. I'm sitting here with both new iPads, with both keyboard covers. This is what I typed just now while testing:

This is such a hard decision. The big iPad is definitely big. But, it's also very big. I think I like carrying the little one better, but the big one is so much better on my desk. But my bag was soooo heavy this morning with the big iPad. This little one types ok though.

So, yeah, my decision hasn't yet been reached, but I think I'm leaning towards the smaller of the two. If you are using the big iPad sitting at a desk or table, it's fantastic. Sooooo nice. Especially if you ever have two apps open at once. Really, it's amazing. But I'm mostly going to be carrying this thing around while traveling, offloading photos to it, and doing curation and little edits along the way. I'll definitely be using it for web browsing, emails, note taking, media while on a plane, etc etc. I just think I'm going to like carrying it around a lot more if it's tiny. But damn when you sit that big iPad in front of you, it looks sooooo good. ARGH

You're spot on, this is how I feel.

I love the portability of the small one, but it is on my desk 95% of the time so the 12.9" should be an easy choice.
..but for some reason I keep saying, '...but... when I do take a trip the small one will be nice'.

Does it make sense to cater to the 5% of the time I will use it? Probably not yet I'm still having a hard time picking.

Went to the apple store once more and it reaffirmed my decision so I pulled the trigger for the 12.9”. Feels incredible in my hands while the 11” was not cutting it. I hate the bezel to screen ratio on the 11” actually, they seem huge on it.
