Ordered the 11 but cancelled when i saw it side by side in store vs the 12.9. walked over and purchased the 12.9 instead. Its significantly smaller than last years models and the 11 inch seems tiny and unusable for "Pro" functions in comparison.

What "pro" functions can you do on an iPad? They both run a phone OS

I spent some time at the store yesterday and both sizes were quite nice. The new design in general is just gorgeous.

Gotta say - that was the first time I've seen so many people at the Apple Store to check out new iPads (and expensive ones at that). A lot of university students as well. It was interesting to see, good 3-4 people spent quite a bit of time using both and having a hard time deciding on the size. We're definitely not alone in that regard.

I didn't spend extra money on RAM when I buy a watch or a phone, so yeah, it's not the same thing. I spent more on a steel finish, purely cosmetic, something that fool didn't do

i'm a fool for sending extra dough on more ram and hd space ( that you can't extend ) that will ultimately lengthen the objective usage of my iPad who knows how long ?? - and you're not for wasting your dough on a flashy strap that won't out last the next watch upgrade and adds absolutely zero value for money in the grand scheme of things ?

nice one :)

What are the main ways you use your iPad?

So far it’s been on the desk next to me at work, on the couch and while sitting in bed last night.

Will get some time in public over the weekend and if I still have it travel on 12/3.

Mostly been surfing the web & trying to sketch lol

What has been really suprising is the use of the Apple Pencil when remoting into my mac mini via jump desktop. Really transforms/enriches the experience. Clicks are precise now over cumbersome when using your finger in the past.

Yeah I spent a bunch of time today at the store in GCS and was amazed to see people two deep around every iPP on display.

I love the 12.9. A little unwieldy at times, but wow. The 11 was cool and if I weren’t a Kindle die hard might opt for one. But I can’t read on an LCD at length.

Getting the 12.9 for the Mrs. for the holidays.

Coming from a 10.5 iPad Pro I’m so happy getting a 12.9 and returning the 11. That is really portable, but I’m not traveling so often and the iPad is main device at home.

Received my 11 inch today. Very happy with the size. Got my XS Max 6.5 inch, my 15 inch macbook pro, so the 11 inch fits perfectly in between. Anything larger would take away the comfort of holding it on the couch or the ease of portability. Which will be my main use for the iPad.

Honestly i think there’s no real effort to hold it, it’s very light for being 12.9” or maybe my hands are that big lol

I have a 15“ MBP and a 10.5 iPad and feel like this is a good combo. The 12.9 is too close to a 15“ and getting the 11 over the 10.5 is not worth it in my opinion.

Keep your 10.5 and put the money toward a good 13“/15“ MBP

Currently have a 10.5 pro. like the idea of the 12.9 but the portability of the 11. i currently have a 2012 15 inch rMBP so im looking to upgrade that as well soon. im thinking a 12.9 ipad pro and either 13 or 15 inch MBP would be redundant. So thats why im leaning towards 11 inch but open to your thoughts on this. i will go to apple store this weekend to try them out.

thanks

Exactly my combo!

Im exactly the same.

Spent time in store with both today - comparing sizes etc - and the 11" is fine as I use my 15 MacBook Pro mainly but want a device for all the in-between use cases. Im coming from a 10.5 so I prob shouldn't update for price alone (!) but the new design changes JUST about swayed me - and the new pencil design is great.

Not buying any new device for 3+ years now - prices are crazy. And resale prices are dropping I think as Apple keeps older models.

I think if the iPad's going to be a main device then id prob go for 12.9 but as a companion device the 11 is perfect - that's my thinking. And the extra 0.5% will get better as more apps are updated.

I started off thinking I would go for the 11”, but after reading about everyone’s experience in hand at the store with the larger one I started to think the 12.9 would be ideal.

I’ve always preferred smaller compact setups with big screen connectivity, but recently sold my MacBook 12 after getting the 10.5 2nd hand, and using that solely for work / pleasure, the new iPads were the logical next step.

The 12.9 is really remarkable, it’s definately worth the extra little weight over the 11” I think, especially if you are using it for productivity and it’s full potential... worth trying out both options but I don’t think it’s wise to dismiss the 12.9 on the basis that it might be unwieldy!

How meta is this...i’m at the Apple Store right now comparing the 11” & 12.9” ipad pros. Got them both on macrumors as i type this.

I have to say, making a decision is harder than i thought after seeing them in person. I was all sold on the 11” when i waked in the store....but The 12.9” is alot more hold - able than the previous version. I have to say, i am impressed.

Damn you Apple!

I may have to meditate on this a bit more.

I am coming from an original 12.9, so I initially ordered the 11 because I ended up using the 12.9 at work and that was about it. When I received the 11, I was worried that it might be too small for some of my uses and went and looked at the new 12.9. After looking at them both, I am now an owner of the new 12.9. It is much more useable than the original and just feels better for me.

I can not decide on the ipad pro 11" or 12.9"

I have held both and did find the ipad 12.9 a littlie more in weight than the 11" but not much.

what I did find out is that my ipad Air 1 is 469g and the 11" is 468g and the 12.9 is 631g so the 11" is about the same weight as my air and the bigger one is about 165g more. the thing is before I bought the ipad air 1 I owned a ipad 2 and that weight in at 600g not to far of the 12.9 and I owned that for 3 years.

what to do

I’m about to upgrade my 1st gen 12.9 and waffling back and forth it seems every 15 mins. First, you can’t compare at the Apple store because side by side the 11 obviously looks tiny compared to the 12.9. So I walked over and bought a watch band instead lol. Went over to Best Buy where they only had the 11 on display at the time, and boom, the 11 felt perfect as a tablet.

2 1/2 years with the 12.9 and I never felt this model was so cumbersome where most mention “not portable” “it’s like a TV on your chest”. Sorry, I never felt that way. It’s been perfect, and with iOS 12, still amazing.

Think I’m leaning towards the 11 however this time to compliment the 13 MBP-Ultrawide office setup. My usage is mainly media consumption, web browsing, and a bunch of everyday apps. No gaming. Feel the 11 would fit those needs perfectly.

64gb to 256gb now that’s the big laugh. Especially when Apple base laptops start 128gb. The greedy giant wins again.

256 LTE it is

I think the device your coming from and other devices you currently have will have a large impact on what is best for each individual.

Having come from an iPad mini 4 I can’t imagine feeling comfortable with anything bigger than the 11 I chose. But if your already comfortable with the 10.5, I can see it being a more difficult decision.

Both sizes of the new iPad Pro though are not a million miles apart so I think which ever you go for you’ll enjoy the benefits of either (portability v screen real estate) and long term not feel like your missing out - provided your using the device in a variety of different scenarios (which for me is the point of an iPad over other devices)

I’ve now had my 11 for 24+ hours. I was really thinking I’d end up returning it and going to the 12.9 again. Now I’m pretty sure that this little 11” baby is going to stay with me until something else entices me away. I love it. It’s night and day weight wise, the keyboard is very nice and I love how compact it is. I have barely opened my 15” MBP since setting this up. I’m hoping that I can step away from the laptop more and more often and just get it done on my iPad. It’s kind of nice to carry it around like I used to back in the days before getting the 12.9.

The best thing about having 5 sizes of iPad available is that it means we all have the freedom to choose the one that works best for us.

Had the chance to do a little side-by-side with my 12.9 and the 11 I pre-ordered. No doubt about, the 11 is a sweet device and the size of the whole package is tight and compact while still having an impressively large screen. It’s a perfect couch surfing companion.

BUT, the 12.9 is all that a more. I’m spoiled by the screen, if I’m being honest. Just having that much more screen real estate makes all the difference.

I had the chance to travel with the 12.9 today on the way back from my biz tip (three flights total - lovely) and the size of the 12.9 was never an issue. I was able to bang out some email with the keyboard folio on the tray table with no issue. Watching movies was a treat because of that gorgeously large screen.

So, although the 11 is an excellent iPad, the 12.9 just fits my needs better. Return labels are already on the 11, the 11 keyboard, and the extra Pencil.
