I cancelled my 256 order and went with the 1tb option

The 6 gigs of ram was the clincher for me , should hopefully future proof it a little more...

Paying $600 extra to future proof it? I don’t think thats a good idea. It would likely be cheaper to sell it and buy a new one, when you need it. With the added bonus of getting the new one....

In my impossible decision. ....was starting to feel 12.9 was too big. Opened the 11 and was UNDERwhelmed
Went back to 12.9 with out keyboard and finding it actually quite acceptable to touch type on screen keyboard. Maybe 12.9 with regular folio is my answer given I’ll use my mbp for serious editing and the 12.9 would make a better 2nd screen.

I just wish it could do horizontal split screen. That would seal it for me.

I love the 12.9's new footprint, the older versions felt awkward to hold, these much less so. Though if your only use is holding it, in bed, etc. still think 11 is the way to go. Just depends how you use it, and glad to have options.

I grabbed the 11” and I’m so happy I did I had a gen 2 12.9” and I am not missing the size at all.

Here's a question. More than half of my iPad use consists of lying in bed, on my side, reading the iPad in portrait mode while it's resting on the mattress, with the iPad sitting pretty close to my face. Does anyone here use a 12.9 like this, and if so, is it perfectly fine, or does the size make it a little awkward?

I used the previous gen iPad Pro 12.9 in bed. Didn’t have a problem.

I went to the Apple Store to play with the 12.9. Wow, that thing is awesome. It really is the ultimate iOS device, but I can't see myself being comfortable using that on the couch or in bed. I'd feel like I am holding a tv screen in front of me. I'd really love to have both, but I can't get away with that in my household. The 11 inch is perfect for my uses, which is on the desk with my wireless keyboard, around the office, traveling, or lounging on the couch or bed. Apple really nailed it this year though, both are really compelling options. Looking forward to iOS 13.

What I've gathered from this thread is that Apple needs to make a niche 11.75" - 12" device with the advantages of the 12.9 (full UI) and the portability of the 11", haha.

BTW, I'm still undecided....

12" would have been perfect.

I thought for sure I would go with the 12.9 but its too big and heavy to use as an actual tablet. 12.9 is good for drawing or desk use.

11 if you use it as a tablet on the couch or in bed etc. Think I will return the 12.9 and stick with 11.

I used the previous generation 12.9 for reading in bed that exact same way and had no issues with it.

It's such a personal decision. I have both a 10.5 and 12.9 second generation and use them for different things. I have no problem at all using the 12.9 sitting on my lap, but clearly that isn't comfortable for some reading this thread. I am still trying to decide which size to get to consolidate on a single device and haven't decided yet...

Tim Cook's wet dream is your logic of dropping damn near a $2k just for a meaningless 2 extra GB of RAM

wow, bravo Cook, bravo

I say get the small one!
You're spot on, this is how I feel.

I love the portability of the small one, but it is on my desk 95% of the time so the 12.9" should be an easy choice.
..but for some reason I keep saying, '...but... when I do take a trip the small one will be nice'.

Does it make sense to cater to the 5% of the time I will use it? Probably not yet I'm still having a hard time picking.
I wa really IN LOVE with the 10.5” for the entire year, just till these new ones were announced.
The form factor is just Incredibly Portable and nice to take to a café or basically anywhere besides home or the office desk. and it’s actually big enough screen wise. The thing is, if the bigger one could DO anything better than the small one, productivity wise, I’d get it in an instant, but since it runs the same crippled iOS, I don’t really see the point.

Received my 12.9 space grey 256gb WiFi after cancelling multiple 11 inch iPads, it’s a great device, screens huge but the case doesn’t seem overly large in a weird way. All in all pretty happy although it is a bit of a handful. Will probably be better when the apple folio case arrives tomorrow and I have something to prop it up with.

Interestingly enough I have a few sleeves from my MacBook Pro 13 left over, which are perfectly suitable to keep it in.

Ordered the 11 but cancelled when i saw it side by side in store vs the 12.9. walked over and purchased the 12.9 instead. Its significantly smaller than last years models and the 11 inch seems tiny and unusable for "Pro" functions in comparison.

Currently have a 10.5 pro. like the idea of the 12.9 but the portability of the 11. i currently have a 2012 15 inch rMBP so im looking to upgrade that as well soon. im thinking a 12.9 ipad pro and either 13 or 15 inch MBP would be redundant. So thats why im leaning towards 11 inch but open to your thoughts on this. i will go to apple store this weekend to try them out.

thanks

I have the new 12.9 and it is my first 12.9 pro. It does feel like being close to a tv screen. I’m reminding myself to position it farther back whether I’m sitting at the desk, couch, or bed. I need a moment to process what I’m seeing because there is so much to take in all at once. I’m used to having the 9.7 closer to my face, so I just need to go through an adjustment period of positioning the 12.9 farther back.

I have the 2017 12.9 (it is my work machine) and just bought the 11 as a companion (replacing an Air 2). I just stopped by the Apple Store because I’m having delivery issues with my accessories, and I got to check out the 12.9. I’m super impressed. The new 12.9 fits in my purse (I did it in front of the sales lady), and yeah, is just night and day more convenient than the 2017 12.9–and I’m saying that as someone who loves my 12.9.

I still think I made the right call for my particular situation... I don’t need two 12.9s. But if I were only going to have one iPad (and no laptop, like me), I would go 12.9.

That said, this post is the first thing I’ve typed on my new 11, and I’m really happy with it. The keyboard feels comfortable, it’s super light, and I can definitely see myself traveling with just this iPad. It would not be a hardship to do my online teaching sessions on it, with this screen size. I think my 12.9 will be staying home— it will still get tons of use there.

Yea and I am sure people get used to it, just like with every device/size, but it’s just not for me and my uses. Now if I could have both, 12.9 for desk and 11 for everything else, sign me up. I have enough toys though haha.
