Just checked them out at the store.

In the past, I had the 12.9” and found it a huge pain to travel with. Just too wide and unweildly.

It’s still too big to be portable.

I thought the 11” with the Smart Keyboard was the perfect size. Very portable, lots of screen.

I have the 10.5 and used to have the old 12.9 one... tried both new ones in the store for 1 hour...I would really like to prefer the 12.9 one, however it does feel big, you can’t really hold it in one hand... and with the keyboard it is kind of huge...so i might stick with my 10.5 since I’m not sure it’s worth to upgrade from the 10.5 to the 11...

I was fortunate enough to be able to snag a 12.9 ipad 256GB today. Was expecting a queue this morning at my local retailer but it was only two people. My two cents coming from a diehard 10.5 ipad user is to really try both the 11 and 12.9 out... I brought my trusty 10.5 for comparison and was shocked to find the 12.9 quite managable... the slimmed bezels really makes the big screen pop... the weight was managable to the point that it swayed my decision on getting a 11".... imo the 11" did not wow me over as much as the 12.9 and if u have a 10.5... my advice is to stick to it... if u r prepared to spend this type of money, I strongly advise you to check it out in person if u can : )
Thanks for the word! I had ordered the 11” and received today but first went to the Apple store to see what I was actually getting. I went ahead and picked up the 12.9” as the size was much easier to manage than the other generations before. Also they had plenty in stock which was good. I am completely satisfied with my decision and will be sending the 11” back to Apple.

Make sure you go to the Apple Store and actually check them out. The 12.9 is now much lighter and smaller. Honestly believe it’s just right. Hope all goes well for you. As of this afternoon Apple Store and Best Buy in my area had stock

Ok, just got done at Apple Store where I had a 12.9 reserved, after playing, this really does come down to what you do with it. As much as I want to like the 12.9, the 11 is actually quite perfect in every way. It is insanely light and is a great screen size. The 12.9 is impressive with its screen but it’s not going to diminish the WOW factor. I decided to leave my pickup as is for now and go home and play with my 11 and just enjoy it. Only time I’m sure I’ll see a 12.9 otherwise is in the store. Only other thing I debated is the 512 (which I have waiting at home) or the 1TB, which for me would be all about media consumption. I travel ALOT and having lots of media is helpful. I almost filled up my 256GB 10.5, but I can’t imagine that double the storage means I put double the stuff. And $400 is a bit to chew when making that choice. Plus I know I’ll just upgrade next go around anyway. So for now ... 11” 512 fits the bill for me.

P.S. I voted for 12.9 above earlier in the week. Time for a new “actual” poll

Just got back from the Apple Store. My first impression was that the 11" seemed small. This was completely unexpected because I've always thought my girlfriends 12.9" to be way to big and I thought my 10.5" was perfect. Unfortunately the 12.9" model I want is sold out whereas the 11" was still in stock.

I just got my 11 inch delivered after changing my mind between the two sizes about 6 times after ordering. I am really happy with the size and it still feels like a great upgrade to my 10.5” pro. I’ve got a MacBook and a desktop for larger screens but I think this size is perfect for portrait web browsing while still being able to type with 2 thumbs. I’m keeping this one.

I can see the value in the large size for artists or people using it for a laptop replacement with a keyboard but the 11 inch is still m recommendation for casual browsing and gaming on the couch/bed. I really like the new case too (I got the one without the keyboard). It’s really easy to take on and off and it’s thin enough so it doesn’t detract too much from the design of the iPad.

Some people itt have serious issues it's only a tablet at the end of the day. Choose whatever fits your needs best and stop second guessing every purchase or asking the internet for confirmation

With all respect, but how can people say the new 12.9 isn’t portable? Thing thing has a size of a sheet of paper and is lighter than 99% of the portable computers in the world. This is so much better than the old 12.9!

A big, stiff piece of paper.

The 12.9 is still ginormous.

I purchased the 12.9 today. I had a 10.5 and traded to Apple. So far I like the bigger screen even when watching T.V. I will admit it is like being a little too close to an iMac 27” (while it rests on my stomach) as I recline and watch T.V. This thing is very thin! The weight for this size screen is incrediblely light sans folio or keyboard folio.

Took a phone call on it and the sound was great. The caller said the sound on their end was very good.

Viewing digital magazines are better for me over my traded 10.5. iPhoto works well on it.

I think it will really shine on a desk or table. With a little adjustment period I believe for my needs the 12.9 iPad is a good compromise between a tablet and 13” laptop. I’m talking about the physical aspect of the iPad vs laptop. Not software.

I debated this question back and forth (as a current 10.5 owner and a prior 12.9 owner). After much deliberation, I finally decided that the best answer to this conundrum is to buy both...otherwise I will just spend the next week reading MacRumors and obsessing about it:)

Somebody can tell me how is the 12,9”’s keyboard on the screen? I want know if it is more conmfortable with two hands.

It is a strange question but i will use ipad in the bed and i can’t use the cover’s keyboard.
Thx

The 12.9 on screen keyboard is actually quite good! You can type on it like a regular keyboard (almost). The hard thing is that it’s difficult to see what you’re typing if it’s laying flat, though if you had your knees up i could imagine it working.

I myself am trying to figure out if I should return 12.9 for 11...I had this dilemma before and kept going between 12.9 and 10.5 last gen, and settled for 10.5. I loved it! But I’m thinking I might end up using just the iPad at conferences and other places, so wondering if it’s better for me to keep larger size. Also, taking handwritten notes on the 10.5 was significantly worse than 12.9, as there was less room to rest my wrist while writing things. Lastly, I also read a lot of scientific articles. I thought 12.9 would be much better for PDFs, but when I loaded some on 11” side by side, the 11” handled them quite well. I wonder if this is because of the new display ratio? So many decisions to make!

Does anyone know if the 11-inch still has the same hideous on-screen keyboard or did they take advantage of the longer screen and give it a real keyboard like the 12.9-inch?

12.9 has much better on screen keyboard it adds a dedicated numbers row which 11 doesnt

I just picked up my 12.9 with the keyboard and pencil and honestly it is not that big for travel etc. I prefer the bigger screen since this is my laptop replacement.

Going from a Mini I like the 11". It's very light and that was a concern as I also have an iPad 2 that is much heavier and I don't really use it often.

So far I love the display and the keyboard on the iPad itself. I bought the non keyboard cover and so far I like it. I have just had it for a few hours and need to spend time with it.

I think that the size is dependent on what is good for you.

OK, setting up my 12.9. I wasn’t sold on the bigger footprint, until I actually saw the 12.9 in person. As others have said, the 11 looks tiny next to it’s big brother. So far, I’m liking the larger screen and the roomier keyboard.

Like I said before, I’ve got an 11 sitting in my office at home that I’ll probably take out and take a look at tomorrow, but now, I’m thinking the 12.9 is a keeper. We shall see.

A few random observations:

The magnets on the keyboard folio are STONG. I have to man-handle this bad boy to change the viewing angle and fold the keyboard back. It’s probably just me needing to get a feel for how everything folds up and back and whatnot.

Screen is awesome.

Keyboard is nice, roomy and easy to type on. Still wish there were some dedicated function keys like on the Logitechs, but it’ll do for now.

It’s snappy, but not heads and shoulders above the 9.7 Pro this is replacing.

I’m still loading apps and all that fun stuff, so let me finish this beer and fire up some Netflix to see how it looks and sounds. Going to be a fun few days until I dial this puppy in!

EDIT/UPDATE: OK, I’m really digging this 12.9. I picked up a folio case along with the keyboard folio and with the case only, it’s a svelt little number. With the keyboard it’s a little chunkier but no more chunkier than my 9.7 with the ASK/silicone case. In fact, the 12.9 with the keyboard is just a hair thinner than the 9.7 and ASK/case combo. With just the folio case, it’s a lot thinner than the 9.7 ASK/case! I’m super impressed with the size of this thing. It really is almost all screen and not nearly the monster I thought it was going to be. Again, at the store, the 11 look tiny compared to the 12.9. Not to poo poo those who have the 11, I’m just pleasantly surprised I like the 12.9 as much as I do right now.

Pretty sure I made the right choice here.
