I’m getting more and more happy wit my 11” choice by the day actually, writing this from bed, with two thumbs in vertical position.

Yup, if you are comparing in store, try a few sites you regularly visit. You can obviously fit more on the 12.9 but quite often, the difference isn't a huge amount as often it is just larger gaps surrounding content on the 12.9 and you will usually need to scroll vertically to read content on both devices anyway.

Well. After going back and forth I actually returned my 11 for the 12,9. I had it for 16 days but they let me change it anyway. Went from 256gb 11” to 64gb 12,9”. Figured I didn’t really need the space after all.

What did it to me is holding it felt almost the same as the 11. Apps in 50/50 split is actually two iPad apps. The keyboard is bigger with an extra row for numbers. And the folio keyboard feels way better.

Are you thinking of swapping it again? Have to confess I did the 11” to 12.9 to and back to the 11” swap. Have to say Apple was good about it. I have no doubt it was the right choice for me but trying them both was critical to figuring it out.

Yes <groan>, I’m strongly considering it. I’m glad to see that you and many of the others have done so without a problem.

However, I’m going to give the 12.9 a little longer. I’m not sure how much the ASK would make a difference. My Apple store was restocked today and I bought an ASK to pick up rather than wait the week and a half it was going to take BB to ship it. I never used a keyboard with my previous iPads, though I’ve purchased a handful. Then again, this is my first Pro. Point is, I’m not sure how much the keyboard should make a difference when I already have a MBP.

The 12.9 is beautiful, it really is. I’m typing this on the on-screen keyboard, and it’s not nearly as fast as I’d like it to be. (My typing, not the iPP). And it just feels huge.

I’m trying to keep in mind that coming from a 9.7, this is going to feel ginormous. I may be back in a few days saying that I’ve acclimated—who knows?

Getting rid of your 9.7 or complementing it with this?

Smaller+bigger iPad combo is a great one

Good point! But then I’d still be taking the 9.7 everywhere, and the Pro is just too beautiful to stay at home! Plus, I’m looking forward to using the Pencil to take notes, etc. My 9.7 is one generation ahead of the pencil usage.

I need to get up off the couch and pick up my ASK, but the Apple store is half an hour away, and I’m sure it’s crazy there even though their “event” wasn’t much of one.

Even though I have been very happy with my 11", there is a small part of me that is considering buying a mini and exchanging the 11" for a 12.9". LOL

I understand. That’s why I traded my 11 to try out the 12.9.

There’s some amazing deals on the Mini today. Is Apple still manufacturing them or are they selling out the stock? I don’t have one, but I keep hearing how dated they are.

They are dated. I guess many people are expecting there may be a replacement in early 2019, but of course nobody knows for sure.

I have the same problem you do. I originally bought a 12.9 but exchanged it for the 11" unopened after trying a relative's 12.9 for a a few hours. I loved the screen, but it just didn't feel right/comfortable to me as a "grab and go" kind of device. It felt like a light laptop to me that really was more at home on a desk or stand. Oh, but the screen. Haha. I wondered if I spent enough time with it, but I think it may make sense to just go with that gut reaction.

I'm also coming from a 9.7" iPad by the way. And I don't have a laptop (other than a work PC), but I do have an iMac that I use quite a bit (typing on it now).

It doesn’t hurt to try out the 12.9 (aside from the difference in price and the time spent doing the exchange.) Personally, I know that I would have wondered about the difference for months if I hadn’t bitten the bullet and given it a try.

My return period is up tomorrow and I think I’m going to keep the 12.9 for me they really nailed the size on this thing I was with everyone that it was a bit unwieldy in the previous generations (still loved it on the lap though) but when I take this version out of the folio it’s really great in the hand too. I’m really digging it and I do like the extra size for photos and I’m excited to see that photoshop for ipad update because I’d really like to edit photos with touch and the pencil seems like a really natural interface. I've also been getting into some of the music apps and I really like the screen size for those as well. You really can’t go wrong with either but I think the 12.9 is working really well for me.

I’m all about two iPads. When I got my 2nd gen 12.9, I expected it to replace my Air 2, but instead it replaced my MBP.

Now I’ve got my 2nd gen 12.9 and a brand new 11 (well, and the Air 2 in a closet for now).

Nice!

Weren’t tempted by the 3rd gen 12.9?

That seems like a nice combo tho ! 2017 12.9 and 2018 11

envy you guys that have made the decision comfortably. I’ve gone back and forth with both sizes. I jus purchased the 9.7 6th gen 128gb for the Black Friday deal, 349. I’m contemplating that and purchasing a 13 mbp. I realized I really like the 12.9 but at 256 gb with the keyboard folio and pencil it’s close to mbp prices with half the functionality. I’d rather bite the bullet and spend a couple hundred more for the best of both worlds.

Tempted, sure, but I can’t spend all that money to get an 11 and a 12.9 at once. And I really don’t need two 12.9s— the 11 is used either on its own for travel/around town, when I really enjoy its compactness, or in conjunction with the 12.9 when I am working, as a device to look at books/PDFs on in my hand while I type or draw on the 12.9. So, even though I think the new 12.9 is AMAZING, if the way I use my 12.9 is just for working at home or playing games, also at home, it just isn’t worth the money to upgrade it.

This is my first trip I’ve taken my 11 on, and I’m really enjoying it. I had a teaching session today, and it really was totally fine using the 11 and my iPhone, though of course when I get home and use the 12.9 and 11, it will be even nicer!

I struggle to understand why there is such a conflict between the 11" and 12.9" .

They are very different devices, and yet, there can be no dispute that the 12.9" is a bigger (and better) screen for viewing.

The game changer that Apple made this year was to make the 12.9" more portable , addressing 99% of the concerns around the portability of the 12.9".

As such, i think the 12.9" in 2018 is the better device.

The discussion should really be whether the 12.9" can fully replace the laptop, and if it can, then why are you even considering the 11" ?

Um, no. There's plenty of people that are saying the 12.9 still feels huge to them. I exchanged mine for an 11.

The compromise you make on a smaller screen is much greater than the compromise you would make for portability, on an already reduced sized tablet, making it much more portable.

The discussion isn't about 11" vs. 12.9".

The discussion should be 12.9" vs. the 13" laptop TAM.

Tried both in store tonight....on one hand the 12.9 is so much bigger. OTOH it is essentially priced like a laptop and quite unwieldy even as light as this is unless you ONLY plan to use this on a desk. The 11 is more reasonable to hold...but isnt quite that perfect size that the mini is.

Finally. After having both the 11 & the 12.9, folio cases, smart keyboards and pencil, the day of reckoning finally came. Today I returned the 12.9 and the Smart Keyboard for the 11 and the pencil.

I kept the 11 and the folio (white). And I have a sense of relief that this is the tool I’m going forward with. Also, knowing the will def not be my last iPad it was time to get on with it.

As I mentioned in my last post, it came down to how I was going to be using it and where I would be using it. And the 11 256 LTE won out.

In fact, I hadn’t used the 12.9 in several days and when I picked it up to box it up i could feel the size & weight difference...again not that the 12.9 is heavy by any standards...just my observation.

Onward with the 11! (Until I change my mind :) )
