Big fan of your channel! Looking forward to more amazing content. Would love to see your podcast gear setup and workflow in a future vid.
I said "(not mine)" in my comment that embedded the video, but I apologize if I wasn't clear enough. I'm not the YouTuber, but I agree that his channel has interesting content, and hope he posts more workflow stuff. Cheers.

The sizes should be 7,9,11 inches, they fit perfectly.

I am glad they are not those sizes. I’m loving my 12.9. The 11 looks so small next to it. The new 12.9 is the perfect size for me, for media content, games and productivity. It’s perfect. People should get what works for them, but I am so glad I made the design to go for the 12.9 coming from a 9.7 rather than the 11. It’s just awesome. I love reading on it too. It’s prefect for me.

I have both the 2017 and 2018 12.9” - plus a 10.5”. I think the smaller form factor of the 2018 12.9” is a big improvement. The 2017 version I even had problems getting in my bag. It is now just going to be a second device on my office desk (useful when multitasking).

No problem carrying the 2018 12.9” around. I have just got back from 2 weeks travelling. What I don’t like is the new folio keyboard cannot be folded up as stand behind for video viewing on air flights. I will need to additionally get the folio case for this purpose if I want to use that way.

The 10.5” (and I guess the new 11”) are more handy to carry around in the hand and definitely better to hold portrait as a tablet - but I do miss the larger screen size going from the 12.9”, particularly using split screen. Also the Smart Keyboard feels a bit small (I keep on hitting the wrong key), while on the 12.9” it is full size.

Not one size is better. Depends on individual usage. My wife uses an iPad mainly for media consumption and video chatting, so the 9.7” iPad Pro suits her best, but for my business work, I would not consider using anything but the 12.9”, as it is a laptop replacement for me.

The 12.9 with the slimmer bezels is so much easier to handle than the previous 12.9s , they seemed so bulky in comparison.

Glad I went with that option rather than the 11

I think what many are saying is that the smaller form factor of the 11” is more convenient in some scenarios. For example, here’s me holding my 11” as we speak while reading this thread....

View attachment 806530

I’ve been holding it like this for well over 30 mins now. During my time with the 12.9”, it just wasn’t as comfortable to hold when sitting or lying. And not necessarily because of its weight, but because it’s size can sometimes make it unstable and uncomfortable; and I’m a 6ft 200lb man. Sitting in my recliner I pretty much always rested it against my legs or stomach. Is it a big deal? No. But my neck likes that I can comfortably hold the 11” in a lot of different positions. The 11” gives you a little more flexibility when it comes to mobility and using it as a tablet that you’re holding.

Except that I never hold either iPad that long. It’s always propped or sitting on lap. Don’t use kB folio with either.

The significant difference for me was reading comics or PDFs. More canvas for notes or drawing. The 12.9 was much better. Either one works but the bigger iPad provides the biggest difference from simply using an iPhone. I think the 11 would sit around collecting dust as I used the iPhone instead with its superior screen.

Nope, not relevant. The difference between a 6.5” iPhone screen and 11” iPad is night and day. I have the XS Max and I love it but I wouldnt use it as a daily home consumption device - not many would given the choice. Out and about for a quick check or read something yes but not as my only consumption device.

I have both 13” and 11” iPads (returning one) and it’s hard to decide. The 11” just feels more suited to my use case and it’s effortless to hold and manipulate it all situations (I’m a strong guy so it’s about ‘feeling’ right not strength). The 13” is also great but I only want one device so at the moment it’s 11” - but I’m switching between each one every other day. Let’s see.

The issue I have with the 12.9 is that I'm a bit of a panel snob. I've ran into many units with backlight bleed when watching movies or youtube on the bottom or top corners. I've ran into other units that didn't have as much bleed but were TOO warm, basically piss yellow.

The 11' I have on the other hand is panel perfect.

It clearly is hard to understand/a difficult decision - look at this thread. I think the 11 inch gang is telling themselves the 12.9 isn’t portable to ease the pain of possibly making a poor buying decision. To those that can still return their device or are on the fence, get the 12.9 and see how truly unmanageable it is/isn’t before going for the 11.

The choice is not difficult to understand. Some people prefer a larger or smaller device. Sure there are some in the middle as well who are undecided or hesitant.

For some reason, you’re acting like your 12.9 is superior. I’ve enjoyed every second of my 11, and even went to the store to compare and make sure I was happy with my choice. For me, it’s the perfect size for how I use it, and I prefer the smaller footprint when traveling. I’m not “easing the pain” by enjoying my purchase.

Get a grip.

Bottom line: Different strokes. Everyone should enjoy what they have and feel free to present their perspective, but there is no need to try to convince others that their opinion is the only truth.

Great point.
There seems to be an attitude among some (note: not all or most) 12.9" purchasers that there is something wrong with you, you are lying to yourself or you just haven't seen the "light" if you don't prefer a larger device. I have seen the same thing with respect to phones. How could someone possibly not prefer the XS Max?

For the record, I am currently in the 11" camp because the majority of my use seems better in line with that size, but there are some things that I use the iPad for where I would benefit from a larger screen so I am still keeping an open mind and considering the larger device.

Great point!

As if the fact that the community is exactly right now split on this should show that this is a question of use case and preference and not that’s one device is abundantly better than the other. We are split to the exact number. 402 to 402

I respectfully disagree. I (and many others) actually bought both and had both for the 14 day period that Apple allows returns.

For me, I used both extensively and for the final 2-3 days before my return period was up, I started noticing that I would instinctively grab the 11" over the 12.9". When it was time to return one, I knew what the choice was.

This isn't to say I don't reget not keeping the 12.9". I do development, I'm in Coda, Textastic, Working Copy, I usually have a PIP video from Plex going. You may think to yourself that it's crazy doing all that on the 11" and you know, you aren't wrong.

But it's about "feeling". I'm not justifying my reason one way or another, it's just what I naturally gravitated towards I had to keep. The regrets of not keeping the 11" would have surely outweighed the regrest of not having the 12.9" for those times that I could really use the screen real-estate.

If money were no object, I would certainly buy both because I can see very real use cases for both. Had to keep one.

The decision between the two is clearly based on personal comfort, there is no correct answer, and both sizes have advantages. Still i’m finding it very hard to decide, especially since I dont get 14 days to return.

For me, as a student who reads many research papers, reading on the 12.9” and taking notes/anotating pdfs with it seems like a dream when I was in the store (especially enjoyed it being nearly A4 size, felt very natural and pleasing).

And yet, for all other use cases, around the house... sofa, bed, morning coffee :) the 11” seems (to me) way more comfortable and enjoyable to use. Especially for holding in one hand for extended time, typing, or even just the general layout of many websites seems more suitable and nicer. No doubt I would enjoy it more for these uses.

So for me... I have to decide which kind of comfort I really preffer more. The one as a student or normal everyday use at home :/

I voted for and picked up a new 12.9 to replace my 2nd gen 12.9 (which was handed down to one of my kids). I use it for drawing, editing video and light word processing. My company makes a couple of mobile apps and I just picked up an 11" to test our apps on the new screen resolution so I get to expense it. Where is the option for both?

Just returned my 12.9” iPad Pro for a 11” one. The larger display was gorgeous, but ultimately felt too unwieldy and cumbersome for use on the bed and sofa. Forget about holding the thing in one hand for any extended period of time either.

12.9" owner here, using it in bed all the time. Perfectly fine, just let it rest on your chest. That's how I used my 9.7" and 10.5" also in the past, no difference in use there at all.

Portability isn't an issue to me. Ill put it in a sleeve/bag either way, no matter the size. And let's be real, the 200 gram isn't going to make a difference. The difference isn't as big as some try to make it.

For people that read a lot, holding the device one handed for long periods of time, I'd understand going for the 11". However, if reading is all you do, I'd suggest getting a regular iPad instead.

This has become a 12.9" vs 11" war for some. Both are great devices. Can't go wrong with either. Get real guys.

Do you guys not think and did you noticed that the 11" iPad Pro is Taller in Length but narrower in width when compared to the 10.5" iPad Pro of last year. I don't know if that makes the viewing angle and experience any better or worse on the 11" iPP ?

That's because I feel, the new iPad be too "small" compared to what I had in my memory about the iPad 10.5!

The 11 isn't narrower though, that is just the visual impression due to the taller screen. The device itself is physically wider than the 10.5 to accommodate the same width screen but slightly wider bezels. In Portrait, the 11 has the exact same number of pixels across and at the same PPI as the 10.5 so physically the screen is the same width. One caveat to that though is apps that have not been updated to fully support the new 11 as they can have small bars around the content due to how the corners and title and home bars are handled.

Sorry but this is NOT correct: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...hicker-bezels-than-10-5-and-narrower.2153120/

That is for me a very bad move from Apple then the iPad 11 feels to me too small now!

I assure you it is - check for yourself on Apple's site - https://www.apple.com/uk/ipad/compare/

I have attached a couple images of the relevant measurements. As for the image you linked to, someone has superimposed one image on top of the other but they have clearly changed the size of one of the images to fit their argument - the 11 device itself and not just the screen in their image is physically narrower than the 10.5 even though Apple's figures say otherwise.

Regardless of pixels, comparing the two side by side in landscape, you will see more content height-wise on a webpage on the 10.5 vs. 11. Usually one or two lines of text.

These measures concern the overall size, not the size of the display...!?
