I really like his 80 20 rule don’t compromise 80% of your usage for 20% of what you spend your time doing regardless of which you prefer. That is really brilliant and distills this entire thread into one sentence really. If you spend 80% of your time surfing one handed don’t compromise for screen estate and vice versa.

I also agree with him if you want to evaluate the new 12.9 as a tablet you have to use it naked take it out of the cases (I love how easy this is to do with the keyboard folio) and it becomes significantly different so I appreciated him calling that out and overall a really good video and perfect for this thread!

Exactly. The 80/20 rule is at the crux of why people are having such a hard time to decide btwn the two sizes. When I realized this, as much as I liked the large screen of the 12.9” ...the 20% of the time i’d be using it at home at a desk was outweighed by the 80% of the time i’d be traveling and mobile. So the 11” won out for me.

Somehow, though, I'm still not 100% decided. LOL

Wow good call I like it and it’s basically Pareto I’m kind of the opposite in what I prefer but I respect your thinking even though I ended up with a different conclusion. I think Apple is pretty smart coming up with these two sizes I think they did a great job in what they chose and why and I feel like this poll is a pretty good sign they nailed it.

Absolutely !! that is one more tough decision that I have to make. Though Silver looks as good as Space Gray. Space Gray kinda looks Chic !!

I went straight for the space gray, no hesitation. This version of space gray is so dark that it's more charcoal--much darker than my space gray MBP.

Another comparison video. Might help some of you decide.

I don't know about soothing voice or not, but this guy seem like comical, deliberately using a voice to sound some spoof video of some original Hollywood Movie !! lol !! is he French? That's how French guys sound when they try to speak English lol ! Anyways coming back to the main point, the 80/20 principal that he talks about, well, does it apply to everyone ? I mean he I saying, do not compromise or get tempted by what you are going to use your device, for 20% of time ? And consider how are you going to use your device for 80% of time. He gave examples of productivity and portability. But then there are guys who equally use their device for portability and productivity for them the 80-20 principal is kind of not applicable. So in that case what is the wise decision, to go for the 11" or the 12" ?

Also he talked about take a decision based on which orientation do you use your iPad Pro ? But isnt that something that purely depends on what I am doing if I am watching Photos I will watch it in Portrait Mode if it is Movies and a lot of APPS it would be Landscape. So it is for both even for the 12.9" and even for the 11" iPad Pro I would mostly use it in Landscape Mode ! Then what does one do ?

Well, the 12.9 has a nice big screen but portability can have its drawbacks. Mine has already broken two backpack straps and people have asked me why I own such a “big-a iPad”. Was thinking of getting the new 11 inch, saw it in the store a few weeks ago and it looked sharp. The 12.9 is good for watching films, plus. Also, note taking. I’ve got the 2017 model.

In the end, for what its worth, if anyone cares... I kept the 11".

Really like the 12.9 but the 11 just *feels* good to handle and use as a tablet all rounder - based on my usage. I'll miss the extra space in landscape of 12.9" from time to time but the 11" is effortless to hold and for my personality I like a more personal screen / content consumption when Im out of the house at coffee shop etc.

Also - these iPads are best used without any folio. Feel better than any device to hold - great design.

That's my summary coming from both the 10.5 and 12.9. I love the extra screen space of the 12.9 but the 11 just feels a more personal device and I can do the same things on both sizes. I would love to keep both sizes again this year but this is the perfect time to go back to a single device as I realistically only need one.

That's also my point. I sent the 12.9 back and I take the 11.

I ended up with both. I use them for very different things, though I could use one if I had one. If I had gotten just one, it would have been the 12.9.

Man you have to have a lot of disposable income to keep two devices that do the same thing and will be dated in a year.

After much back and forth I think I’ve decided on the 12.9 - the issue I’m having is that it took7 returns to get a perfect copy and I’m nervous something is going to happen to the 12.9 it feels a bit more flimsy than the 11 and with AppleCare I’ll be stuck with whatever they give me as a replacement

If anyone is curious I experienced the following defects.

-uneven edge backlight bleed in one or two corners
-warped aluminum out the box (2 of these I was shocked)
-screen too warm with true tone on or off. Piss color.

I finally got a fantastic unit but I’m concerned about the durability of the 12.9- I have exactly two days to devices. Time is a ticking!

iPad Pro 12.9 is an improved 12.9 of previous generations.

iPad Pro 11 is an improved 10.5”

It how one looks at it.

You want something small and easy to carry get the 11”

You want a bigger screen but smaller and lighter than previous generations then get the 12.9’

I have an iPhone XS Max which I use all the time when I want some portable.

Yes, iPhone XS Max has a 6.5” screen. Good enough to use as a mini iPad Pro.

One thing I’d like to point out to people struggling to decide on size.
The 12.9” feels massive when you first get it, but believe me when i say that you get used to it really quick (same with TV’s)

Right now, a couple weeks later I’m so used to it that i wonder how i could use that ‘tiny’ 10.5” before.

In my defense, I only purchased one of them and work bought the other for testing our mobile apps. Same thing as last years models. I would not have bought both if I was paying for them.

I’m really pleased with my 11 inch. I’ll typically use it on the couch or when travelling, and the 12.9 would definitely have been too unwieldy for me. I also hope to use it to replace paper articles and have everything archived in one place now.

This is by far, the best description I’ve found on the thread. If you give a week or two it just kind of shrinks. I have NEVER seen anyone carrying around an iPad so to me that argument is out. It’s always propped up or leaned against someone or some thing. Either one requires a bag, and I don’t wear man bags or fanny packs so I’m good. The 12.9 is quite possibly my favorite device EVER.
