I was also more excited for the big one. Right now, every morning I‘m facing the decision which one to take to the office. I tell myself „today you‘re gonna take the 11“, just to see that you don‘t need the big one. Then, almost out the door, I return to pack the 12.9“ just because I know when I‘ll be sitting at my desk, it‘ll be so much nicer to have the big screen.

Right now though I‘m typing from the small one and it‘s also such a genius and great device, because it‘s that much more portable and easy to handle. What I really dislike about the big one is portrait orientation which I love on iPad in general. ARGH! Please Apple, just make a 12“ version and we can end this dilemma :D
It could very well be the next iPad model this year with 6gb or 8gb Ram

I’m gonna try. I really want a big size and I guess I don’t need a special portability. I need to take notes and I often sustain the iPad on my chest when I’m on bed. So, I hope the size and weight won’t be a problem, but I can be wrong. We’ll see. When I watched the Apple’s keynote, I immediately said “wow, I need that big ****”. So, I’m giving a chance for the big one (and my heart ).
The big iPad hurts when it drops on your nose. Like a lot. :D

It would be so sooooo much appreciated. This current dilemma situation is unbearable, I never know which device i like more or want to use in a given situation. I haven’t had such a feeling with any two devices in forever!!

I think the next iPad pros will follow a storage similar to that of the newest MacBook Air 2019.

The 2019 MacBook Air has “128GB”/“256GB”/“512GB”/“1,536GB”

As for ram, I really believe apple will offer 8GB for the lower storage models, and 12GB for the 1.5TB storage model.

12GB/1.5TB sounds good to me.

Welcome in club – I hate that too! I just cannot decide myself.
The result? I returned both back while I'm deciding…

I have a feeling new iPads will have 8gb ram.

Apple will market the iPad Pro as macbooks.

Hope we dont have to shell out another US $2000 this year.

I also face this decision each morning. It’s such a first world issue, yet it is very real. I agonise between taking my iPP 10.5 and iPP 12.9. I sit at a desk all day though, so the 12.9 is perfectly fine to take. I actually use it in portrait mode most often. Part of the reason is that I use the Tapatalk app to read Macrumors forums and the app produces the column with the same regardless of device orientation, so I find that I get more on the screen by using it vertically. I either lay the iPad flat or rest the back on the edge of the desk and support the bottom with a hand or my stomach. So the 12.9 is quite usable at work. I find my 10.5 to be lighter to hold though and also use it in portrait mode for forums. I have some games that I play in portrait and others that I play in landscape. But portrait is my most common orientation on both iPads.
I have a Apple Smart Keyboard for the 10.5 and held off getting it for the 12.9 as I’ve been waiting for the Brydge keyboard for it. So I just got the Apple Smart Cover for the 12.9.

In a way, I wish that I could consolidate my iPads to just having one iPad. I would just then have one iPad to maintain and wouldn’t have to consider which one to take with me every day. If work was the only place I went, then the 12.9 would be fine. I guess that I really only feel that I want a smaller one if I go shopping or perhaps if I was travelling, although there I’d like a smaller one on the plane and the larger one once I’m at the destination, then the smaller one to take out and about. I did pick up the mini 5 too. Perhaps that’s where the mini 5 and 12.9 combination will be useful.

Why the hell would 8gb ram be so important with such a limited os and such limited apps? Bah.

6GB of ram on the 1TB models is already useful in several scenarios. So, yea 8GB or more ram will be coming in the future. Also, apps are becoming more demanding “just recently”. Just because iOS has a security fence around it, and it is locked down doesn’t mean some of these apps and games cannot utilize the resources available.

LumaFusion 2.0
Photoshop
IOS13

These are all reasons to have 4GB of ram at a minimum for decent performance.

Wonder how the iPads with less than 4 GB ram will perform once iOS 13 releases.

Haha, i sooooo understand you.
It’s a crazy 1st world Problem like you say, but it’s real.
I don’t wanna sell my 11” or the 12.9”, because both of them are amazing. I also wish I could consolidate into one, and of course I was just fine that half year with the 11”. It’s awesome! But at the office desk I was really craving a larger screen.
I sold my MacBook Pro and bought the 12.9” instead, hoping for iOS 13!

But a 12” iPad would be the absolute sweet spot.

Yes, we sound very similar with our iPad thoughts. I went the other way to you this time though and got the 12.9” 2018 and have wondered if I should have bought the 11” instead. Although, had I bought the 11”, I would have been wondering if I should have bought the 12.9”.

I had the 12.9” 2017 and 10.5” 2017 before I upgraded. I had a hard time deciding which one to upgrade and ended up deciding to upgrade the 12.9” since I felt that there was a bigger change in the casing and I hoped that would help more with portability of the larger iPad. It does help, the 12.9” 2018 feels more portable than the previous one to me. But I do find myself wondering if I should have bought the 11” instead since it’s even more portable. The 11” could have gone everywhere with me and could have been my main iPad. Then I could have kept the 12.9” 2017 on the desk at home. The thing is that it might not have changed anything anyway as I’d still want to take the 12.9” to work with me sometimes and then I’d wonder if I should have upgraded the 12.9” instead. I wonder if I just had the 11”, if I’d miss the bigger screen too, so I know what you are saying. On the other hand, I also wonder if the 11” could be the answer to my problem as it would feel more portable for me and I’d like to have one iPad. Like you, I have also wondered if the solution for those of us torn in the middle could be a 12” iPP.

I’m really looking forward to hearing what iOS 13 will bring. I have seen some people speculating that it might be especially great for the 12.9” with new windowed apps being particularly good on the larger screen. So I think it’s a good time for me to just wait and see what it brings. I was considering upgrading my 10.5” to the 11” gen 2 when that comes out (next year?), but iOS 13 could influence my decision.

Did I understand correctly that you still have the 10.5“? In that case, you don’t need to upgrade to the 11“.
I don’t know, it‘s really a pleasure having both devices, besides that bad feeling to have wasted money because of inability to make a decision. But they really have different use cases.
It‘s true, the 11“ is ultra portable. Especially I can‘t see myself boarding a plane with the 12.9“, except maybe on a long distance flight, but for short distances on cheap planes, the tray tables are not even big enough. I already had problems with the 11“ on my last flight.
Also, one bonus of the 11/10.5“ is the keyboard really. I feel like I can type even faster on the smaller keyboard because the keys are so close to each other, I can just fly over them.

I really don‘t feel like taking the 12.9“ out of my backpack at home, while at work I dont feel like using the 11“ on the desk... Argh! :D

Yes, I still have the 10.5”. I didn’t mean that I’d upgrade to the current 11” though, I meant that I think that my 10.5 might be the next iPad that I upgrade, potentially to the gen 2 or gen 3 11”....but even that is undecided. I wish that I could settle on one size and be happy for all situations. I know what you mean about having different use cases for each size though.

I have been using my iPad pro 11” for the past month as my only go to device when not at work and it has been great. I don’t regret the form factor which is perfect for my needs. I usually tend to go for the smaller devices anyway (never plus or max with my phones).

I bought the Smart Keyboard Folio thinking it would be a nice addition but it turns out it has exceeded my expectations as it has really changed the way I used my iPad.

I was looking for a laptop replacement since my personal use is mainly short movie and photo editing and more than pleased with the experience. I think it really comes down to if you are ready to accept that you need to rethink your workflow. Mind you I am not saying my workflow on the iPad is more complicated, just different.

Like a lot of us I can’t wait to see what Apple has up it’s sleeve for iOS 13.

With iOS 13, Apple will probably want to bridge the gap with iPads and MacBooks

They claim this is a notebook replacement since 2015 - and those models had 4 GB RAM. I can’t recall them even mentioning the amount of RAM on their iOS devices.

There’s no word that 4 GB will be required for decent performance in iOS 13.
