I initially used to have the 12.9 first gen iPad Pro but I never took it out of the house.

Then I upgraded to the iPad Pro 12.9 3rd gen thinking that I will surely carry it around. I tried and it was fine but soon started to be a uncomfortable.

Finally switched to 11" and I am totally satisfied. Can carry my iPad Pro and use the LTE data at public transport. It is just perfect.

When carrying the iPad out of the house you will have to factor in the carrying case as well which adds to the weight.

I believe Apple should release a 12" model which will be best.

I'm struggling between the 11 and 12.9 inch.

I actually had the 11 inch for a few months but returned it with the intention of getting the 12.9, which I haven't done yet. Now I'm going back and forth.

I have the folio cases for both, which has had the effect of making the 11 look tiny.

My dilemma is that I actually loved the size of the 11 as a tablet to browse online on the couch or in bed - it easily replaced my 13" MBP. However, the screen seems too small (especially in landscape mode) to get serious work done in MS Word.

However, I've loved the size of the 12.9 in store, and I do intend to use the iPad occasionally for productivity. I'm concerned that the 12.9 would be a pain to use on the couch or in bed for more casual Safari usage. I'm also worried it would become a deadweight if it doesn't end up replacing my MBP as my default productivity machine and it really proves to be too big/heavy for more casual use.

Seriously torn between the two.

In the very beginning I was confused but thinking that I was upgrading from the first gen 12.9", I gave priority to the new 12.9" model but when I started to carry it around it was starting to bother me over time. When carrying out of the house you will need to add a case. You have to ask if you can manage the weight over time when carrying around.

At home I already planned to use without a case so either one would be fine but at the couch the 12.9" model seemed big for me. The weight was also heavy when holding with one hand.

I started to give the 11" model a serious thought and I am so glad I made the change when I could.

Now the weight of the iPad Pro is lighter and I have no problems holding my iPad Pro at the couch.

Since I am only 5ft 4", I don't find the the iPad Pro 11" being smaller. It actually looks good when carrying around freely out of the house.

I can use my iPad Pro to surf the net at the train station and not make it look troublesome.

11" model is the best if you will use the iPad Pro alot out of the house.

For a desktop replaced the 12.9" model is the best.
Not to say that you can't use the 11" model as a proper notebook but if you are not going to carrying it around much then bigger screen will benefit more.

If you are still confused, see if the amount you save from the 12.9" to get the 11" model, you may push yourself to get the 1tb model so you benefit with the extra ram. Hopefully with IOS 13 it may come to some benefit

Get the 12.9 without a case it weights not much. I have mine in a case and it is about 1kg but the case folds into a stand.

1TB iPad Pro FTW! The extra ram is incredible, and the storage speed of the 1TB iPad pros are blistering fast! Storage benchmarks on my 1TB 11” LTE can run circles around even 512GB model iPads. If you are transferring large files in to movie editing apps, or moving around a lot of data. It all helps out the experience.

I’m still happy with my 11” 1TB. I think the weight of the 12.9” is a turn off for me. If I could afford both, then sure but that is just not in my budget.

We can only assume that the 1TB iPad pros are going to last 5-7 years pretty easily.

I’ve been tossing the same question around in my head. Today I saw that Best Buy had the base 11” for $674 so I went to the store. Yeah, the 11” is lighter and cheaper, but I ended up getting the 64gb 12.9” and am very happy with it.
Size and weight without case is fine and since my use is in the recliner, that is the way I’ll use it.

I had the first gen 12.9 and used it daily from launch till the release of this years pro. I bought the 11 LTE and I couldn’t be happier. It is my preferred size and i would highly recommend it!

Having tried out the 11 and 12.9 at Best Buy once again, I'm now leaning toward the 11. I feel like if I get the 12.9 it would have to replace my 13" MBP, and I can't see it doing that considering it would almost be as heavy and wouldn't give me the same kind of quick and painless productivity without a trackpad. Also realized that split screen is not a big deal for me personally since I rarely use split screens on my MBP.

For casual use, while I love the bigger screen, I feel like the 12.9 wouldn't be as enjoyable because it's a bigger footprint and relatively heavy, requiring me to always use two hands or have something to lean it on, and a constant concern to be more gentle with it for fear of dropping it. The lightness and small footprint of the 11 make it an afterthought to use.

I also might be in the minority, but I do like the aspect ratio of the 11 better than the 12.9, it's a little less square like.

The only thing I'm still questioning is what ios 13 will bring and if it will make the 12.9 more of a true laptop replacement.

That is my thoughts as well.

Those who are confused between the 12.9" and 11" can consider getting 11" 1TB.

It is worth it.

With 6gb ram and 1TB and LTE my iPad Pro is perfect for every need.

Trust me, once iOS 13 releases, both models will be able to do the same things.

I think Apple should consider 11.9 / 12" iPad Pro in the future.

I bought the 11" last December and love it. Then I decided to subscribe to Apple News+ since I enjoy reading magazines so much, and bought the 12.9" from Apple ($1149) to enhance my reading experience. The bigger iPad is excellent for reading magazines, newspapers, web sites, watching Netflix, etc...but it was much too heavy to hold with one hand and swipe with the other while watching TV on the sofa...so I reluctantly returned it.

Today I noticed Best Buy's holiday weekend sale...$200 off the 12.9, so I picked one up. I was thinking about doing this before the sale and then selling the 11" and getting an Air...but since I got the sale price decided to keep the 11 and 12.9 and am very happy with my decision. Got em both at discounted prices (256GB, wi-fi). The 11 stays with me on the sofa/recliner and the 12.9 stays on the table where I plan to read the papers and magazines, many from Apple News+.

Now have iPhone XS, iMac 27", iPad 11, iPad 12.9. Next is the watch when the 5 comes out.

Never thought I'd be okay with keeping 2 iPads, but I just couldnt resist reading the mags/papers on the 12.9...getting ready for when I retire in 5 months !!

Happy Memorial day to all...please remember our brave service members and the sacrifices they have made and continue to make !!

My situation is a little bit complicated.
Tried budget iPad 9.7” wifi 128GB. Random freeze 5 times in 3 days, including one freeze when iPad did nothing. Apple Pencil recharge was quite tricky. Took said iPad out one day because iPhone was water damaged. Because iPad did not have cellular, using google map was a mess since there was no offline map. Fortunately, my ISP has free wifi for their customers, so I managed to know how I went to the destination. I was also legitimately surprised by iPad ability to know where I was.

Then, I decided to jump the gun and got 11” iPad Pro. I am a big fan of how Apple Pencil 2nd gen is charged and A12X is extremely powerful. Also cellular is a must. RAM wise, 6GB is great but the cost is too high. I end up getting an iPad Pro 11” 256GB silver, with Apple Pencil. Haven't got any cases yet, but smart folio leaves two obvious stripes on my screen when I carry my iPad around. Super annoying.

11” is really a sweet spot of screen size and weight. Not too heavy when holding while the screen is big enough to allow me to see a lot of stuff, or see the same amount of stuff but everything is bigger.

I mentioned earlier I didn’t use the split option too often, turns out over the past few days I have been administrating my Linux server through Terminus while using this feature.

Everything worked liked a charm and my workflow was just as good as when using the Macbook Air. I have said this already but will say it again, this little device is amazing and I don’t regret for a single moment spending the money I did on it. I can only recommend getting a keyboard since I get the feeling that it really allows the user to take the iPad to the next level.

Juste a couple of more days to 3rd of June !

Would this be in addition to the 11 and 12.9? Or replace one or the other? Because having all three 11, 12, 12.9 sizes seems a bit much. And as a 12.9 owner I don’t want to go any smaller. And I’m sure many 11” owners don’t want to go any bigger.

Yes. 12.9” is too big to hold and touch screen typing is unacceptable.
11” is the max size I can sort of typing on touch screen with a reasonable speed. And I can hold and carry over without too much hassle.

Not sure if Apple will ever release a 12" model.

It is just wishful thinking

As a fellow 12.9 user I was actually hoping to get a bigger iPad one day!

Every time I use the 12.9 Pro I enjoy the experience - it's strange how vast the screen feels when in reality it's smaller than a run-of-the-mill 15 inch MBP. It's a great device for the sofa.

I nearly always think I will just take my iPad 12.9 on trips and leave the laptop at home, but end up nearly always taking my 12 inch MacBook instead. A 12 inch MacBook is smaller and lighter than the 12.9 iPad with a decent keyboard case and MacOS is still better for multitasking.

Not to hijack the thread too much but what killed the idea of the 12” MacBook for me was the keyboard for which I really have nothing positive to say. I’d rather have a bit more bulk but a nicer typing experience on my 12.9 than be frustrated every day on the 12” but that’s just me.

I agree the typing experience is pretty bad - I am no fan of the butterfly keyboard design and the 12 inch is probably the worst of the bunch. But... for travel I can put up with the compromise and the Apple Smart Keyboards don't feel much better to me. The Logitech ones do, but they are very bulky and getting into 13 inch MBP territory.

I think it’s becuase you hold the 12.9 much closer than a laptop that has a trackpad and keyboard as guaranteed distance between you and the screen

Agree, the Apple iPad keyboards are rather terrible for typing too, no comparison to the comfort of a basic Logitech keyboard- which then adds in the bulk again.

I wish I’d gone for the 1tb and it’s extra 2 gigs of ram as I can definitely see slowdowns when a few apps are open

Maybe next year ...

I had a 12.9 returned it and purchased an 11 inch. It works for me except I miss the larger screen in split screen mode.
