Apple doesn’t want you to buy a new a phone every year? Of course they do. They even throttled old phones to sell them.
They did that because their batteries were 2 years old and needed to be replaced. Google requires you to buy a new phone just to get an update. Must be why Google and their manufacturers do what ever the carriers want. Nothing better then a phone full of bloated software even more so if it’s made by Samesung. Google phones don’t suffer battery loss in 2 years because they are in a landfill already.

Really... do you actually read every disclosure before installing anything? You must be one of those five people who actually reads the EULA. Good for you.
Heh...now you're arguing against your prior point. :) It doesn't matter if you put warnings - people are so used to just clicking OK 5 or 6 times every time they install something, they breeze right by it. Just look at any of the beta threads for people whining about bugs.

People find it much easier to bitch and moan after the fact than invest the time to be an informed consumer.

Them explain why when I went to Apple for help with a slow 6s. I was told my battery was fine. I’m not the only one. Apple was caught pulling something shady.

If you want to be upset at anyone it's the developers who haven't been updating their apps. It's NOT Apple's fault in any way shape or form.

I find it comical that Apple apologists blame indie devs for not updating their old apps/games and expect that they be updated for eternity, when Apple doesn't even provide updates to their hardware for eternity.

Just because Apple gave advanced notice that 32 bit support was being removed, does not make it acceptable. If a bully gave advance notice of when he was going to beat you up, that does not make it ok.

A known issue for a long time - IOS 11 doesn't support 32 bit apps. Apple hasn't accepted 32 bit apps for years. Gave warnings with IOS 10 when you opened them.
Blame the app developers who didn't want to upgrade their apps - they had years to do it and it isn't the biggest deal to go from 32 to 64 with no other changes.

not Apple's fault

Why would blame on App developer when Apple itself doesn't update all their app on time? Why do Microsoft put 32 bit app support on their Windows support but Apple cannot?

Apple apologist at finest. When Apple dropped something, it is because app/hardware is to old, it drain resources to support these app/hardware. When some app not work with iOS 11, then it is the evil app developer?

That is one of Windows biggest problems. Depsite Microsoft trying to push UWP apps and drop legacy support that would make Windows much efficient, the truth is that the industry hasn't let them, especially in the Enterprise sector. They even need to keep support for stuff that was designed for the Windows 9X days, which makes Windows far much bloated than it needs to be. And by the way I am not Apple fanboy by any means, and I have heavily criticized many of their decision lately (including how they managed the defective iPhone 6S battery fiasco without informing the users), and my main computing device is a Surface Pro 4, but I do think that Apple is doing the right thing on this one, first not allowing 32 bit apps to be published, then killing updates that are not ready for the new platform and finally preventing them to run at all. It took them 4 years since they launched the 64 bit processor to get to this point, so developers got loads of time, and this will prevent them for ever ending in an issue like Microsoft got making Windows Backward Compatible with everything.

Wow - that's a pretty torturous argument to make there, buddy!

Let's try something more logical: What's more 'right' - a local authority changing the speed of a road with no notice, then ticketing offenders from day one, or them telling drivers a year in advance then re-enforcing this with signs and indicators for the months leading up to it thus allowing them a chance to modify their usage of the road (or even avoid it altogether)?

Either way, the road speed will change for whatever reason.

That's what happened here. This is Apple's game. They have zero requirement to cater for old software that's not been updated for years.

In addition, this is from one of the Developer agreements that was in force when many of these apps were written

3. Maintenance and Support: You must be solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services with respect to the Licensed Application, as specified in the EULA, or as required under applicable law. You and the end-user must acknowledge that Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance and support services with respect to the Licensed Application.

In other words, Apple can change the platform and it's up to the developer to adapt.

If you want/need old apps, you still have an option:

* get an iPhone 5C or an iPhone 4S and then get a fresh battery for it.

If a developer hasn't updated an app in the past 5-9 years, it should run quite well on those devices. Obviously the 5C will be faster and have way more usable memory, but the 4S will have the display aspect for games and apps going back to iOS 2 to display correctly.

Just because Apple gave advanced notice that 32 bit support was being removed, does not make it acceptable. If a bully gave advance notice of when he was going to beat you up, that does not make it ok.
What if the bully said, if you come to this place at this exact time, you get beat up. I'm pretty sure you'd avoid that location at that time...

Ive never had an iPhone that slowed down. Funny thing is this feature came with amd nobody cared. Better yet, don’t updat your phone. It wouldn’t be slowed down by a new os. Have had multiple Android phones, those slow down within months and nobody to fix them without buying a new one. Apple slowed it down because it crashed due to over power. They werent forthcoming about it though. Android is deliberately doing that because they don’t have users who care to actually support the OS by paying for apps and the hardware manufacturer doesn’t make any money after the sale. If you want to use a phone where your the actual product then go ahead and support Google.

If Microsoft pulled 32 bit support they would have gotten pushback from all off the Fortune 500 companies that use outdated software. Apple required 64bit apps before 11. All of the app developers knew this, the good ones fixed their product the bad ones well they are long gone and do not care.

This is more of a developer issue really. They took your money and then abandoned development or just simply moved on.

I even dislike 64 bit apps that aren’t updated to support the X’s screen.
I’m pretty good at bugging developers though. If I see the developer moved on, I try to find alternatives that will be supported longer.

So your just going to make excuses for Apple.
1st excuse: my iPhone never slowed down
2nd: don’t update iOS. Yeah that’s smart
3rd: Apple did it so phones would not shut down. Fine but my 6s never shut down. But it’s throttled.
4th: compare to android. Not interested in android. This is about Apple
5th: refer to google. And how the collect data. Dont use android so stop deflecting

I get it your iPhone slowed down so they all do. Makes lots of sense not. 2 year old technology slows down. Oh well. According to you, it’s throttled as if your the single most knowledgeable person on the planet. Either don’t update or accept the consequences or go someplace else. 2 years old phone is still 2 years old.

Finally got sick of Apple spamming me everyday to update my IOS to 11, so I reluctantly upgraded. At least 120 dollars worth of apps that worked on my phone earlier today not don’t work on the same phone now. @“$! You Apple!

Mirice99, your real mistake is a very human one: acting impulsively in the heat of emotion before thinking a little more about it. You were mad at Apple's aggressive push to update and so you "reluctantly upgraded". Maybe you temporarily forgot you had seen those 32-bit warnings, perhaps somewhat long ago. Your only clue for cautious behavior was the feeling of reluctancy. Welcome to the club.

This is a similar situation to the headphone jack, Apple pushing change, but this shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. Apple announced this a while back, the issue is the sudden update by the op.

Microsoft supports DOS apps back to 1984 in Windows, they are forever stuck with this and Intel is forever stuck with producing processors that support 16 and 32 bit apps.

However, I can only guess that processors for mobile phone without 32 bit instructions, can use the precious circuitry space for other things (what other things, I don't know) Could be smaller die, better power savings, etc.

But to be fair, app developers have been given ample notice.

As normal user with tons of App purchase over past few years, how do I know which app that I am going to loss with simple iOS updates? Here is thing about backward compatibility, all the apps that customer have purchase will work regardless which iOS version.

Apple is also late for updating its app and completely stop support with few of its apps. Of course, people will be piss off with these changes. This is understandable.

I am not saying Apple is necessary in fault there. It would be nice that Apple offers backward compatibility for older apps. But hey, this is Apple and Apple is known for cutting support for older technologies.

You should have known because Apple kept telling you that 32-bit apps were going away... and they gave you a way to easily identify those apps well in advance of their demise. Sometimes one need open their eyes and see the signs.

Yes... Like people will go through list of hundred apps they purchase and go one by one check 32-bit app. People comes to expectation that an OS upgrade should not break any applications. This is general expectation from people. Just look the outcry when Windows Vista came out, all short of drivers, application stoped functioning and the backslash Microsoft faces.

As Microsoft kill of any 32-bit application and watch the outcry. Just because Apple give someone early notice, doesn’t mean people won’t get pissed off when they see application stopped working after OS upgrade.

It is like when government devices to disallow any gasoline powered car on street before 2025 and send out letter to all gasoline car owner that they car won’t allowed to operate because environmental issue. When that times come, you think gasoline car owners will be happy?

Check out post #13 in this thread... the info was readily available in iOS 10 via the Settings > General > Applications ... tapping on Applications gave you a list of all 32-bit apps installed on your device.. or you can arrogantly whine that you didn't know...

And we're talking about a bunch of $0.99 apps that haven't been updated in at least a couple of years. Buy a used iPhone 5 with iOS version earlier than 11 and live in the past...

This is none issue for me at least. I have 2 iPads that stays in iOS 9. I don’t use iPhone, my old Android app still works fine with Android 8.0...

But for most people, like my dad, he is not too happy about the change. But... I ended up find alternative free application for him.

Apple is the devil. Stick to 32 bits forever! Even better, 16 bits FTW! Everybody back to the Windows 3.1!

Eff that. DOS rules. GUI is from Satan.

There were also tons of articles out during the iOS 10 days on how to see what apps are 32 bit and won't be upgraded when you move to iOS 11. I am surprised your curiosity didn't arise when you kept seeing this message...View attachment 752270

And this showed where to find incompatible apps at Settings/General/About:

There are a ton of messages in this thread that make this point, but yeah, the short version is that the OP has no excuse and no one to blame but himself. Throwing a tantrum at Apple is simply trying to ignore the fact that this was completely clear and the OP should be taking responsibility for this himself.

I have two iPads and an iPod that will stay on iOS 10. It's not that hard, but there's a whole herd of whiners who complain about being "forced" to update. Sorry, you did it yourself, Apple did not trick you or force you to do it against your will. It's a completely voluntary step.

It is not as simple as you thought though. Of course people like my wife and dad would never know how to keep update even sent to your iOS devices. The constant nagging itself is enough to promot people update, this is exactly why Apple choose to nagging people in the first place. If this is not forced update, then what is?

Update download itself, constant nagging people update, then disallow any downgrade. I think it is forced.

I did because I installed Apple TV beta profile. Until Apple devices to get ride of this method, then I am using this. This does requires you do some researches and really trust site where you download the Apple TV beta profile. I don’t think this is some average joe would able. Not people like my father and my wife.

True, but most people have access to a technical resource...someone that understands most of this and should be able to advise them.

No reason you couldn't have installed the Apple TV profile on your father and wife's devices to do away with the update prods.
