That was cringeworthy. Although maybe he thought the 14-inch heats up faster than the 16-inch and that liquid cooling would make it run faster. All jokes aside, I’m glad you will have at least some form of recourse on the damage.

Let it dry out upside down for few days then attempt to turn it on, you'll at least be able to backup your data. My wife accidentally spilled tea on my 2012mbp and after few days it still worked but had to be plugged in all the time. I'd definitely buy a new system and not fix it for that price.

in case you're wondering what liquid damage repair costs without applecare+..my son was kind enough to provide me with that info. I wish i had bought applecare+ for $100 bucks..id have saved myself $1100 today.

I have three kids and would never leave my laptop at my kids reach. Amongst other things a iPhone. Wallet. Etc Etc.

I wonder if zipping the back cover off immediately and dousing the logic board with 99 percent isopropyl would have prevented the corrosion? As for the display, yeah I had a similar situation with a little guy, the machine started running again fine, but you could see all the water stains on the backlight through the lcd.

Dude in the apple store probably got a kick out of that video.

Amateur move leaving an expensive laptop anywhere near a toddler, btw ;)

I've never put warranties on laptops because I keep them away from my kids (two of whom are now tweens and can manage to not destroy electronics anyway). Tablets and phones, I usually do. Anything used by my wife, 100% gets a warranty -- I love her, but the woman has a habit of falling asleep with some expensive gadget on top of her at night, rolling over, and knocking it onto the floor.

BUT, your video is making me consider it. Just in case. If $100 really gets you accident repair at no further cost.

Always get AppleCare for a laptop...

That was painful to watch!
Or basically just don't leave your two year old unattended with a multi thousand dollar laptop. Sounds harsh and I don't mean it to but if OP is rich enough to make that 'schoolboy' error he's obviously rich enough to pay for the consequences. Me? I'd be crying for a year.

Isn’t insurance a thing?
I don’t pay for Apple Care because I already pay my insurance company and/or my credit card company to cover accidental damage and extended warranty for me.

@hefeglass, save your receipt and check your policies, I’d say.
Yes.

In many cases, your should be able to submit a claim either through homeowners insurance or AMEX/Visa/Mastercard if your card used for purchases covers repairs for portable electronics. AMEX Platinums, for example, covers up to $800 for phone repair, which is up to the cost of a full replacement in the Genius Bar for any phone.

People are too quick to judge, being an actual parent, this can happen cause you got a call from your boss asking for some info, you got off the couch to get that info, toddler destroys the laptop. It can happen very quickly...

I agree though on that with kids around, AppleCare+ is a must... you'll need it.

I could be wrong, but I believe Tier 4 repairs are $295.

I am an actual parent. Of twins. While you're busy making sure one toddler doesn't wreck the living-room, the other is busy dismantling your kitchen. You very quickly learn.

Agree about AppleCare.

I think it’s funny how people are trying to somehow say you were wreckless, an amateur, etc. Things happen, you live and learn. Thanks for sharing the vid thought made me laugh and cringe at the same time.

Btw if you bought the MacBook with a credit card, you may even have insurance on it. Something to look into.

Perhaps he could send the video to Tim Cook for AppleCare marketing purposes and get a free repair. This should be an article for MacRumors too.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at here and why you quoted me. I always make my electronic purchases with a credit card for the extra protection. It’s the perk of higher tier credit cards. Aside from the insurance, I typically get 2-3 x warranty as well with nothing extra out of pocket.

I deleted your quote. I just hit the wrong reply thing.
