I think it’s funny how people are trying to somehow say you were wreckless, an amateur, etc. Things happen, you live and learn.
Alas, I rather doubt that's the case with most homeowner's policies in the US.In case you have this but haven’t thought of it: In my country this falls under ‘home insurance’ that almost all homeowners have. Which is for all water damage, among others. The deductible per incident is usually below 100 euros.
Or basically just don't leave your two year old unattended with a multi thousand dollar laptop. Sounds harsh and I don't mean it to but if OP is rich enough to make that 'schoolboy' error he's obviously rich enough to pay for the consequences. Me? I'd be crying for a year.
I did the math..Apple care is like plane insurance
I never took them.
And after ~20 flights and ~10+ computers+iPhone+iPad, would have never use the insurance anyways.
So if my kids destroy my computer(or it could be me!), it will be a hard pill to shallow for sure, but I would save money anyways but not buying the insurance.
Ouch, that was painful to watch, but thanks for sharing & it seems like you have a pretty good attitude about it.in case you're wondering what liquid damage repair costs without applecare+..my son was kind enough to provide me with that info. I wish i had bought applecare+ for $100 bucks..id have saved myself $1100 today.
On the flip-side, I have had a MacBook go completely bad on me and replaced with a brand new, specced up unit 2.5 years after use. I buy on mobile and first generation macs. Because Apple isn't always the quickest to fess up to broader issue until a lot of noise has been made.So if my kids destroy my computer(or it could be me!), it will be a hard pill to shallow for sure, but I would save money anyways but not buying the insurance.
+ the father is calling his own son a monster...
Intentionally pouring water onto a keyboard is not accidental. You better have a different story to tell.Isn’t insurance a thing?
I don’t pay for Apple Care because I already pay my insurance company and/or my credit card company to cover accidental damage and extended warranty for me.
@hefeglass, save your receipt and check your policies, I’d say.
Non-accidental damage by your kid is absolutely covered under your house insurance.Intentionally pouring water onto a keyboard is not accidental. You better have a different story to tell.
One round of Wii Sports bowling and you got a nice TV upgrade for yourself. ?You can use this to your advantage some day too. Need a new TV but the SO is opposed? Introduce your kids to the wonderful world of Wii Sports. Without straps, of course.
A child or a person with special needs may act with intent while not understanding the consequences of their actions, and it's usually possible to pay an additional premium to protect against this kind of damage. From personal experience, telling the truth when making an insurance claim works just fine - you just have to make sure you're paying for the correct policy. And such a policy is likely to be quite a lot cheaper than paying for Apple Care or similar insurance policies for each individual tool or tech toy you purchase.Intentionally pouring water onto a keyboard is not accidental. For non accidental damage, here in Quebec it’s under warranty for a reasonable amount of time no matter what the company policy is.On the flip-side, I have had a MacBook go completely bad on me and replaced with a brand new, specced up unit 2.5 years after use. ..that commenter you're replying to likely doesnt have kids. My kid is a monster..they are all monsters at this age..Come on. They're all monsters. God had to make them so adorable to make us want to kiss them instead of murdering them.
Soooo…. Never?I would never leave kids out of my sight to be honest until they are old enough to think logically.
Yeah my 18 year old dinked her SE screen falling down the stairs the other day because she was too busy talking rather than concentrating on not falling on her ass. She's paying for the AppleCare excess herself.Soooo…. Never?
Clearly you weren’t berating your child, better to just ignore the noise because that’s all it is...that commenter you're replying to likely doesnt have kids. My kid is a monster..they are all monsters at this age..
