I've played WoW on a 13" MBA and a 16" MBP and they both feel hot as hell on the bottom whether at low or high graphics settings. WoW Classic ran much cooler tho, so get on the nostalgia grind if you want a cooler experience.
Same for my wife's MBA 13 M1. I threw stuff at it CPU wise that heat up my PC laptop, and the temp didn't budge, but CiV definitely heated it up.

it is well known that Apple (and many other companies) will only work with journalists and reviewers who basically parrot the talking points from the PR brief. Unless you are a very, very established player in the industry, your first critical review of an Apple product that AAPL deems "unfair" or "unwarranted" (or, even just not parroting the product brief) relegates you to having no pre-releases/pre-embargo lift access, and, well, that severely affects your ability to continue to be relevant.

You are spot on..

Even turbo Apple defender, John Gruber, has seen the front end of this from Apple in the past

Tech reviewers don’t get “free products” they have to send them back.
Smh. You really want to get sticky about definition? No kidding they have to send them back. That's why they're called review units.

Have you actually heard it? and compared to what the 13" air?
That wouldn't be hard, as it's very poor on the 13"

yes I hear it, 6 speaker... 2 "big" woofer, sound is impressive.
13" sound good for the small dimension of case.

You're right. I shop wisely. Got my 16" M1 Pro for $1500 on a Costco deal. I will never, ever give Apple $200 for $25 worth of product.
I got the same deal! I was waiting for the release of the 15" MacBook Air but when I saw the Costco deal I jumped on it straightaway. The only "cons" (which weren't negatives for my use cases anyway) were the M1 chip and added weight. No biggies for me, as I don't need or plan to travel with or tote around my MacBook (that's what my iPads are for) and M1 vs. M2 is negligible to me. :)

It's that time again, from the usual biased 'reviewers' from YouTube for pointless unboxing videos. Where are the professionals when you need them?
MKBHD bashes Apple sometimes, and points out their asinine decisions and choices. I think he has enough clout where he could do that and still get invites to events and early products... Anyway in the 15" air review he was pretty lukewarm about it and kind of compared it to Tesla taking their most popular and best selling vehicle the model 3 and making it bigger to the model Y... Basically what Apple did here... he goes on to make it clear that its nothing astronomical or greatly improved... Just a bigger version of the entry level product.... I thought that was pretty spot on.. Not sure what more or less you can say about it.

It doesn't matter if they get to keep them
It's the access to the units at all, especially pre-release, so they can make the content they depend upon for viability

("review*" ready to drop when embargoes lift)

*we are being exceptionally generous with the term "review"

I get that, but Apple asks no one to give them favourable reviews, that’s not how it works. People have been critical in the past with valid points/issues, Apple have still sent review units and even invited said people back to events.

The fear and concern of "not getting units in the future" works wonders for Apple here
It naturally keeps reviews tempered a bit...and they get full deniability

Yeah, I wish it could do dual monitors, also, but it’s Apple’s M.O. This is a classic Apple scheme to encourage consumers to upgrade to a higher end machine. Notice how the upgrade pricing is JUST ENOUGH to make you consider the upgrade. It’s never going to change with Apple and this kind of thing shouldn’t be surprising at this point.
You can get a refurbished 14" M2 Pro for the same price as the new 15" with the same RAM and SSD (16gb and 512gb). Their prices for all their laptops are absurd, unless you buy refurbished or closeout deals.

And to this day, the Refurb price for a maxed out M1 MBA (16gb/2TB) hasn't budged
It's still $1739 as a refurb that's 3 years old -- totally ridiculous

I'm switching from my 16-inch MBP (M1 Pro) to the 15-inch MBA Base. I know it's a downgrade but I'm over the size (weight) of it. I only browse the internet and watch videos on my computer.
I hear ya on this one, will be much easier to use on the coach hopefully!

You might actually want to watch some reviews of latest Intel and AMD-based computers vs M2 chip. It's closer than you think (and Intel actually surpassed M2 in some cases). Battery life? Not everyone sits on a plane for 18 hours away from an AC outlet. Batteries charge so quickly nowadays...plug in for even 30 minutes and you've got another half day of charge. Big deal. MBA is thin, has great computing power and last a long time, but they are not cheap.

You miss heat. The M-series idles quite low and 1T extreme loads are always under 10W.

Not a single Windows laptop keeps 1T load under 10W. Not one.
