Does this erase all your stuff on the phone or does it keep all your music, calendar items and contacts?

It erases everything however a backup of the phone before you restore will keep your contacts etc.

Another synch after the restore will put the stuff (music, etc.) on yoru phone.

What is edgesuite.com, the domain where the download is coming from?

Based on some Googling, apple.com.edgesuite.net is some sort of server that Apple uses to host various kinds of content, including iTunes stuff, i.e. this is an Apple download.

The file you click on is the zip file named...iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw
that you downloaded from the Apple servers.

The ipsw linked previously...

i figured it out (arrrghh the impatience of having to redownload!).

people. you have to have "open safe downloads" UNCHECKED in your safari/general preferences, otherwise it will unpack the ipsw file like a zip.

EDIT: super monkey ball1

yeah I'm on windows...doesn't impact me...

I wind up not with an IPSW, but with a folder which includes a .plist, two DMGs, a kernel cache release and a Firmware folder (that has a bunch of stuff, but no ipsw file).

Don't unpack, unzip or open the file that you downloaded. Leave it as a zip file.

I think you will need the ipod firmware, anybody found it?

You need specific Touch firmware. I tried the iPhone one and restored by iPod with a previous version because the iPhone update bricked the iPod (which is fine because I can restore to an iPod Touch firmware anywayz. I just HAD to try with Super Monkey Ball sitting in my Apps waiting to be played.

Okay so wait... it's asking me if I want to do a backup of my iPhone... that isn't going to put it back to 1.1.4 right?

Nevermind... it's working, syncing to get everything back.

Which file do you option click on?

And let's also confirm that you have done so on a locked, un-jailbroken iPhone. O2 or AT&T?

People a little help please... As said before in finder once downloaded there are a number of files in the folder. I have Option-Clicked and all of them and nothing happens. Do i need to open any of them in iTunes?

Please help

...I still can't get the ipsw to do anything.

does anyone have this working on a mac? i hope it's not a windows specific file (though when it started dling it was named ispw and had the apple lego icon). are you trying to right click the zip file? try erasing zip and renaming it with an ispw extension.

It has the ipsw extension but I still can't get it to work.

I cant get the ispw file to do anything ether. Im on a mac. Iv checked its not a zip it is a ispw. iv option-clicked and all it seams to wanna to is rename the file. This is gonna sound simple but are you left or right clicking the file?

Dunno what the problem is - works fine for me. I'm actually running another restore because the data backup on my phone was from 2/27/08 that I used from this computer. I'm hoping that I have another one on here that's more recent...

Just gotta wait for it to load all my damn music on here again. Gonna go run across campus and grab food while it does that.

It's OPTION CLICK THE RESTORE BUTTON IN ITUNES, THEN select the file when the dialogue opens

Yeah my work PC doesn't have my music so I'm going to be doing that tonight when I get home...may be restoring again too cause I have a more recent version of my data on that comp if it comes down to it.

I noticed 'Import Contacts from SIM' in the settings. Though it didn't do anything for me it was neat to see...
