Just to second Barbapapa there, I looked inside the ipsw and the restore.plist refers to two board configurations: m68ap and n68ap which I assume refers to the original iPhone and the 3g iphone.

I can't get it to work on a Mac either. If I open the Zip, it's a folder with the .ipsw extension. In either case, OPTION CLICK, SHIFT CLICK and CTRL CLICK don't offer a RESTORE option.

I cant get the ispw file to do anything ether. Im on a mac. Iv checked its not a zip it is a ispw. iv option-clicked and all it seams to wanna to is rename the file. This is gonna sound simple but are you left or right clicking the file?

everyone on mac....option-click on RESTORE IN ITUNES, NOT THE FILE. then just find the file in the finder that comes up :)

Well i got this... And now have an iphone in recovery mode. Gonna Put the old version on and wait for tomorrow i think.

Yeah my work PC doesn't have my music so I'm going to be doing that tonight when I get home...may be restoring again too cause I have a more recent version of my data on that comp if it comes down to it.

I noticed 'Import Contacts from SIM' in the settings. Though it didn't do anything for me it was neat to see...

I noticed the PUSH option... I guess that's how apps like AIM and Twitteriffic are going to work with receiving updates. Kind of lame, but I guess it's better than nothing.

I had this same problem for a while

heres what you do
remove the .zip so it ends in .ipsw
go to iTunes
click on the iPhone pane
option-click (shift-click on windows?) the check for update option
navigate to where you have the ipsw stored and double click it
try clicking it 3 or 4 times if it doesnt respond at first
clicking it once wont highlight the open option
but double clicking starts the update

and remember to BACK UP EVERYTHING FIRST!!!

EDIT: the open option WILL be highlighted but it may be delayed a second
double clicking will still work fine

Uh god I forgot that I have to pay for the iPod touch firmware. Well that explains it. No wonder I couldn't find the iPod firmware anywhere. :(

officially 2.0'd!!! apps are synching now. my backup didn't reload my music thankfully (all sms/email/etc there) so that i didn't have to wait too long :)

Working great for me, got a bunch of free apps from the app store loaded already and everything. Also got connected to my corporate Wifi network for the first time. This is great!

is ipod touch 2.0 on the itunes servers now?.... can someone give me the link to itunes store?

I had an unknown error occur too during the process. 10.5.4, iTunes 7.7. I wonder if it is different for O2 phones than for ATT phones somehow.

So done mine.

I thought I had messed up because when I downloaded the file it extracted it in to a folder.

I can't find the post relating to this but if you did the same as me, look in the Trash Can and you'll see the original file. This was posted by someone else on here but to that person, Kudos - I'm sure you're out there somewhere!

Installed in about 15 minutes, restored as it was plus all the apps. Seriously cool!

Faves in the apps so far are the Remote but need to look at this some more and get all my movies into iTunes, (or looks forward to see if it it can control VLC!).

And of course, PhoneSaber - I have a few friends who have Nokia N95's and I was fed up of them doing the lightsaber thing on there's - now the iPhone will rule!

Rotary Dialer also retro-cool!

PS - Don't think I want a 3G iPhone now, or yet anyway!!

Enjoy

- D

Ok, I attempted to install 2.0 from my PC laptop. I got the download, and then from iTunes, Shift-clicked on update, located the 2.0 packet, and clicked open.

The problem is, I was not offered an opportunity to do the one-time backup - it just started doing the update, and then froze.

I had to do a restore and now am back to square one. Any ideas where I went wrong?

Thanks,
Brad

Tried it again with same results. I get this message that indicates an error (5) was detected and I have to restore to the original.

Hmmmm......

Never mind. I'm stupid.

I downloaded what I thought was 7.7 but instead downloaded 7.6. That was my problem.

Up and running. Now to figure out how to enable Exchange...
