Oh man, it might be such an awesome device, but I am afraid to even think of the price 😨

Pretty sure that I am the target market segment here 😂

Sir I'm gonna need you and your spaceship cockpit to calm tf down

Haha but seriously that's a god-tier setup you got there. Could you share what all those amazing products are so I can recreate this beautiful monstrosity for myself? And are those magnetic hinges I see holding all that madness together??

I’m not sure who this is for, and whether or not it is worth Apple’s investment for such a small number of people.

They already have a 16 inch for those people. They already have Mac minis and Mac Pros for those people. They decided to stop making the 17 inch because it wasn’t enough people for them to keep investing into.

Just odd to me.

Yea, I presumed someone was going to ask this question 😂

Those Intehill 4K travel monitors are shockingly good and light. Each one can be powered via the USB-C w/ DP-alt mode connection. The 4k resolution is awesome because you can do Retina at 2x integer scaling which is perfect for that screen size. The only caveat is that when all three monitors are hooked up, I need to dim their brightness down to ~80% because each one draws near the maximum power output of MacBook TB/USB-C ports and the MacBook doesn't seem able to output the maximum output to every port simultaneously. Dipping the brightness to 80% keeps the power draw low enough that it isn't a problem.

The Edge Pro magnetic holders are very strong. You don't have to worry about your tablet/screen falling off if the magnets are aligned correctly.

All in all it's a great setup for the hardcore digital nomad if you don't mind looking like an absolute nerd!

Moving away? No. That is inaccurate. The Mac has gotten the biggest boost in its entire existence under Tim Cook by way of Apple Silicon and rapid iterations.

Instead of moving away, Apple has introduced other products that don't use macOS because they are more attractive to more people. Most people do not need macOS, so products are made for them. But a core group of people will always need macOS, and there is no "moving away" from it.

Oh, is THAT why?

LOL

Anyone paying attention knows that Apple had hoped the iPad would supplant and replace the Mac about 9 years ago now.
Exactly this which is why Timmy & the Boys obstinately and stupidly let Macs languish for years. Hell we all remember the MacRumors Buyers Guide that listed Macs as "don't buy" for years and the mass exodus of true professionals from the Mac platform after rabidly supporting it for decades all because Little Timmy wasn't giving them what they needed to get their work done.

This story is BS.

It's a foldable iPad. Because of its width it would fold for travelling.
Absolutely ridiculous that anyone seriously believes Apple would release an entirely new computer based on MacOS and not an iOS derivative. Clueless.

(Incidentally I also don't believe this will ever come out as an iPad either, but I wouldn't quite bet the house against it…)

Why would it be running iOS any more than macOS ... or "HybridOS"

The only actual new form factor anytime recently was AVP, which of course got "VisionOS"

Sounds like you want an iMac with a carrying case.
A modern 20" (standard clamshell) wouldnt be radically different in size from the old 17"s, it would need roughly an inch more on each side, and if it followed the current 16" it would be half as thick as the old 17"s which would make the other dimensions more palatable, and those 17"s were awesome machines

HAHAHHAHAHA. That's precious. The Mac, which is the product that is used to create every other Apple product, was magically going to be replaced by an iPad?

I really just can't with this conversation or you people anymore.

I am excited for this -- my 2009 17" Macbook Pro remains one of my favorite laptops I've ever owned.

I'm less excited for the inevitable glut of nonsensical mockups, least of all the ones generated by AI.

I actually wouldn't mind an iPad that folds like this, but only that far, just so I can use it without a kickstand.

It's default position would be fully open.

And yet, I find the iPad to be pretty perfect as is, aside from not having a Surface-like kickstand.

I wish Apple made a MagSafe one.

Oh good! What we need is for them to further decrease the distance between the screen and keyboard. It's not like the current keyboard scratches the display or anything.
Tougher, scratch resistant glass would be nice, wouldn't it!

It’s top tier un-novation. They just replicate concepts from other competitors who brought out a low-quality product (foldable phone that breaks etc.) and appealed to a customer base with it. It’s for the sake of it.

Would be huge for artists/designers. I’m also sure they’re banking on new use cases yet to be discovered.
