This is an old app that I've used for years when I encountered problems with sleep.
It uses a brute-strength method to force sleep when all else fails.
Might be worth a try, can't see where it would hurt anything.

Would you be willing to share a clean copy of the file? I don't really trust Macupdate anymore... And i can't find the file anywhere else is seems

My 2006 Mac Pro is probably the best computer purchase I'll ever make. Going on 10 years old, and it still runs circles around my work-provided iMac (which they replace every other year, with a new but bottom-of-the-barrel model). The Mac Pro is still a joy to use.

I just popped a couple of 5365 CPUs in there, which I got for a song. Doing that little upgrade project reminded me of just how nicely engineered these machines are.

El Capitan may be the end of the line in terms of OS (we'll see), but I anticipate using this machine for years more to come.
I agree. The 2006 Mac Pro is my favorite computer purchase ever. A couple of years ago I replaced mine with the 2013 Mac Pro and can tell the difference. The 2006 Mac Pro gave me little to no issues, while the newer one has had all kinds of conflict errors and display issues. There is just something cool about using the older model as well. I have the 2006 model hooked up to my TV and toy with the idea of switching it back to being my everyday computer. From what I've used of Sierra in beta form so far, I can do without.

I got a top-of-the-line iMac in 2013 as my primary home machine and I like it a lot. But it certainly won't grow with me — it pretty much realized its full potential the day I got it and filled it up with RAM and thunderbolt drives. I don't think there's any tinkering or upgrades in its future.

I've decided that I'm going to take my Mac Pro to work and have it be my main machine there. With my aluminum 23 and 20 inch cinema displays, it's still a stunner.

I'll stuff my work-provided 2015 iMac, with its horrible 5200rpm drive, off in the corner somewhere for my student worker to use.

I did just about every upgrade possible to my MP 1,1, it runs El Capitan ok but doesn't look like Sierra is in it's future. So I took out my old 2004 G5 and built a Hackintosh, should be ready for Sierra in the fall.

Would you care to explain how, exactly, a G5 PowerPC processor can run macOS Sierra, an operating system that can only run on relatively advanced Intel processors?

@PeterHolbrook , Read the post you quoted, he built a Intel Skylake Hackintosh inside G5 case.;)

Btw, it's maybe a stupid question but is it possible to edit SMC/Firmware so that 1,1/2,1 cMPs can run Harpertown Xeons?
There was plenty of talk before about that (topics from 2008) but today it could be the only option left for 2006/2007 MPs...:)

Sure, replace everything inside with a new motherboard and a skylake i5 6600 processor. Runs El Capitan better than my Mac Pro. The only things left of the G5 is the case and the drive cage.

At this point I would have left intact the G5 e i bought a case for the Hackintosh

I know that they don't work, but now when the only solution is to edit microcode for SSE4.1 and to add layers that will slow down 1,1s, it might be more natural way to add support for newer 771 CPUs. Then again I don't know nothing about editing firmware, but I know that Intel 5000x chipset supports Harpertown Xeons.

I see. So you are just using the case. Fair enough. As for Harpertowns (a la Mac Pro 3,1), it appears they don't work on a Mac Pro 1,1: http://rene.rebe.de/2014-01-15/harpertown-xeon-do-not-work-in-original-macpro/.

I do want to point out in that link he used X5470s which only come in steppings that dont even work in 3,1 Mac Pros. It would be interesting if someone could get some SLAxx 54xx CPUs and drop em in a 1,1-2,1 and see what happens (make sure there 1333Mhz FSB chips)

But MacPro 1,1 is actually too old. There is no USB 3, no Thunderbolt, slow PCIE bus, old display technology.
We can add extra hardware to help, but the life time of power supply, ram modules are dying.
I have ram modules replaced from time to time.

I think It is time to let it go.

Where is it going ... LOL Keep it, put Leopard back on it and use the Crap out of a machine you just tell yourself you got for free. That's what I did with my G5.

I did get this Mac Pro for free.. Why Should I install Leopard when El Cap runs great?

Lets see..Free Mac Pro 1,1, 12 gigs ram included.

Nvidia GTX 620 2 gig $25 from Craigs list.

Seagate 1 Tb for El Cap..$50 Best Buy..

Total cost.. $75

Anyway..I hope this Thread goes on.. It would be fun to see if Sierra could actually be doable.. If not.. I'm happy with El Cap after being stuck in Lion 10.7.5.. :)

So who can get it running first?

I wonder if Pike's boot loader can load it?

I was able to install Sierra on my 2006 Mac Pro using a supported mac. I copied Pike's bootloader to all the right places.
Unfortunately, I was unable to boot. I get the apple logo start screen, then nothing happens. In verbose mode, not a single line of output.

Damn would be really good if we could keep this lovely machine running on as I don't see why Apple punish users with every update trying to force their hand to buy a new machine I mean I don't give a toss about airdrop etc so why criminalise people for features they may not even use !

I just spent $100 a few months ago to get an osxwifi.com wifi chip. I have airdrop, handoff, and even wifi calling enabled now. I don't want to feel like I wasted my money (though I'm considering buying a 3,1 if Sierra doesn't get on 2,1) I want to see it live on!

Let's face it, 2,1 is at the end of the road here. Will continue to work flawlessly in ElCap, but the 1-year OS X lifecycle will render it obsolete within next 3 years. Too bad. Seems we need to shift towards >3,1, thankfully all of our hacked hardware upgrades, GPUs, SSDs etc will continue to work in more modern machines.

Yeah the biggest joke is that Windows will run on these machines long after
OS X updates , I'm happy keeping it on Yosemite for next few years as everything I need will run on it fine

But if someone does manage to get Sierra running that would be great

I think nobody will bother until the OS released and source code for some of the core components are available at http://opensource.apple.com/
