Just replace the two boot.efi files as usual and you'll be fine:

I did, still boots into Recovery with endless "too many corpses being created" errors.

Btw, I know it's Recovery since I edited its boot plist for verbose boot.

Yeah, same thing happened to me, and replacing the two boot.efi files allowed me to reboot on the El Capitan drive and finish the installation (took another 11 minutes or so).
Edit: I leave a Mavericks drive connected for just this reason. If the Mac Pro boots into Mavericks after an OS update, I know what I have to do.

Strangest thing, couldn't boot from Bootscreen but no problem from Startup Disk in Mavericks.

Didn't finish the installation after boot, but reports 10.11.5...

10.11.5 worked for me after replacing the boot.efi files again through the standard process. This is why you keep a small 10.7.5 partition around for the machine to default back to when the Apple installer overwrites those files. Not hard to fix.

10.12 on the other hand.....?

I used the combo update, replaced the boot.efi files in /System/Library/CoreServices and /usr/standalone/i386, and all is good.

@rthpjm , Just want to thank you for rrhd script.
It couldn't finish getting BaseSyste.dmg back to Recovery HD, but i copied it from Install OS X El Capitan.app and then could finally boot into Recovery HD and disable SIP.

Still waiting for my memory.
Just wondered and maybe someone knows the answer....
Is this old memory , like the chips are close to 10 years old ? Or aRe they still made using older technology?
Or are they made with newer tech just too match old specs ?
Kinda asking if these will get less hot which would be the case if they are made with newer texhnology....
I bought from that wwon guy on ebay.
Went for 32gig.

Crucial were no longer selling this memory last time I looked although they were a few years ago so. I bought mine from Ebay - used - probably pulled from a server. Some was DOA but the seller replaced the faulty modules. If you buy the type with big heat sinks (as recommended by Apple) it may be better than the other type, although some have said it is fine in their Mac. It is fairly cheap so I increased it to 32gb. You may get new old stock or someone may still be making it but I guess it would be more expensive.

Hi folks...longtime follower here Mav, Yose, now El Cap...OK, so i thought I had pikey going and lo and behold update 10.11.5 happens and I get flashing folder on boot...and blank gray on Recovery 10.11.2 (no progress).

what exactly do i need to do to re-replace my boot.efi ? I still have my install USB...and I have an El Capitan boot drive from a Macbook Pro 5,3...but neither seems to get me to a recovery or terminal enabled point...

Or place the drive in an enclosure, hook it up to another computer, then manually replace boots?

Thanks for all of your help through the years!

You'll have to check is final web driver out. Usually it takes one day for nvidia to update driver from beta to final.

Btw, update will overwrite boot.efi files.
