2006/2007 Mac Pro (1,1/2,1) and OS X Yosemite

hello ive got a problem with installing yosemite on macbook 2.1 (late 06)

ive tried using the prepatched .dmg file but my system doesnt recognise (doesnt see) pendrive and when im trying to boot from disk partition the installer says that the system is already installed.

some people had the same problem and you adviced them to install with sfott but i cant download the installer in .app format from appstore (i dont have any other mac to do it). the only thing i found is the image in .dmg format. could you be so nice and upload it for me somewhere? :(

The pre-patched dmg is ONLY setup for a Mac Pro 1,1 or 2,1. If you want to use it on something else you will have to modify it or build your own. This thread is not for the support of Macs besides the Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 and the Xserve early 2006.

And again, that is an Intel GMA950 so it will NOT work.

Firstly, thanks to everyone involved with getting Yosemite working on the Mac Pro 1,1/2,1. I have finally had some success installing Yosemite on my 2,1 but i have run in to an issue.

I installed Yosemite using the "pre-patched Piker-Alpha bootable Yosemite installer" method and everything has been working perfectly until i restart. After i have restarted the bluetooth keyboard/mouse doesn't work and when i plug in a USB keyboard/mouse they don't work either. However, after a few minutes the bluetooth keyboard/mouse connect and start working.

When i plug in my phone nothing happens, and this is the same when i plug in a USB memory stick, etc, anything USB doesn't get recognised by the Mac Pro. When i tried installing Mavericks i had the same problems but it didn't happen on Lion.

I have tried doing a search but nothing really seems answer it. I hope i've explained it clearly enough.

Many thanks

The Bluetooth keyboard issue is a Yosemite bug and not related to this. You can try this as a fix for the Bluetooth issue. As far as USB not working, a few others have reported issues with that. My guess is there is a kext issue. Have you tried repairing permissions? Also try booting with kext-dev-mode=1.

Thank you for the reply. I have tried repairing the permissions but that didn't work. Sorry to ask but is there a guide on how to boot with kext-dev-mode=1?

Use verbose mode to see where it stops.
P.S. After script installation you need to reboot twice before updating to 10.10.x. Launch daemon isn't active immediately. It needs 1st reboot to load and 2nd to execute commands it contains.

Thanks for the advice – I tried rebooting twice before installing 10.10.2 and it's flawless now! It's pretty awesome to breathe new life into my old Mac Pro.

Type this in terminal

Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

Thanks again for the response. I did the above and unfortunately it didn't work.

Also, not sure if it helps. I had my phone plugged in and i restarted and as the mac pro is booting it pings to signify its charging but as soon as the apple logo with the loading bar appears it stops charging and disconnects.

This should be corrected in the OP. Now it's suggesting that one restart after installation of the script is enough.

I just changed the OP... but I'm not actually sure it's correct? There's no harm in the twice reboot though so I put it in.

In my earlier playing with it, it's installing a launch daemon that runs at shutdown to copy the correct boot.efi files. Once you reboot, it looks to me like it's launched with that next boot as a launch daemon. Nothing magic about the next reboot as far as I can tell?

It doesn't physically run (copying the boot.efi files) until you shutdown or restart, but it's installed and ready to go once it's launched as a launch daemon.

Perhaps I'm missing something?

Security Update 2015-002 1.0

Do we need to worry about the Piker-Alpha boot.efi being overwritten by the Security Update 2015-002 1.0?

Thanks,

I can confirm that the latest security update won't break your Yosemite install.
At least not on a xserve 2,1 early 2008.

its a RAM issue. Unplug everything external first so there is nothing in the USB ports etc etc. Take all the RAM out and just put one stick inside it. See if that works. You may have to reseat the RAM too

Hi, thanks for the reply - is there any way I can fasten up the process of detecting the faulty ram module? - like a stress test or something?

Really hope, that someone can help me, greetings from Austria!

I used to have frequent kernel panics before I was able to flash the firmware on my Mac Pro1,1, Which was a problem for me because of my idiosyncratic "B00" Boot ROM Version.

Have a look here: http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,1094.0.html

I am now at 2,1 and running SFOTT Yosemite perfectly.

Hope this helps.

How much RAM and what modules? i.e.: 8GB sticks?

on one board i got 4x 512mb (stock ram) and on the other my upgradet 4x 2gb

I've now changed back completely to the 8x 512mb stock to check if the error still occurs ...

i've seen (using hardware monitor that the 4 new arms get quite hot - around 70 degrees C - when just browsing the web and using office... after I noticed i did changed the position of them and now just one gets up to like 80 degrees while the others are around 65 . maybe this one is faulty.... but now I'm checking with the stock ram... so thanks for you're help ....
