ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB

FYI:

I'm running a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB.

I have had absolutely zero problems from 1,1 to 2,1, SFOTT Mavericks all the way to Yosemite 10.10.3.

Hoping this is helpful to someone.

Saved by MacVidCards ...again !

I installed the nvidia driver mentioned here.
https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=21019155#post21019155

How : I used my iPad and a app to connect remotely (iTeleport) to my updated Mac with latest 10,1,3 complementary update (which broke nvidia driver compatibility)

Of course, you should install the driver before updating to 10,1,3, if you want to save the hurdle of doing it remotely as i had to.

In order to install the new driver before updating Yosemite you will have to modify the driver install package. You have to change the build number check in the distribution file inside the package to your current build number. In this case the you will be changing 14D136 to 14D131.

After updating my MacPro 2,1 to 10.10.3 my power supply fan is going loco after a couple of minutes.

Only Safari is open. Nothing else. And I get 2800 rpm on only that particular fan. Every other fan is normal.

I now use "MacFan Control" to manipulate that fan down to 800 rpm, but as soon as I turn the program off it goes up again to 2800 rpm.

Of course I could just leave MacFan Control running forever, but that doesn't solve the problem only the symptom.

Anyone else noticed this with their machines since updating?

Have you tried resetting the smc?

1- shutdown your mac
2- unplug the power cord
3- wait 15 secs
4- replug power cord
5- wait 5 secs
6- turn on your mac

I did experienced something similar (fans maxing out for no reason) a couple of times under Mavericks and Yosemite. Resetting the smc always did the trick, my fans have been running fine for months now. I'm not sure what caused it. When that happened, I noticed the temperature report on cpu-die offset (#1 iirc) was wrong (0º C) - after reset the correct value was back (usually around 42ºC)

Did you install Yosemite from SFOTT Mavericks doing nothing? I mean without replace efi, etc.
Thanks!!!

After installing SFOTT, to get to 10.10.2, I replaced the efi like so:

"Just to be clear (sorry for being the dimwit!), you (one) runs the tobyg script: https://forums.macrumors.com/showpost...&postcount=891

and then,

1. Install the script but DO NOT restart.
2. Delete the installed boot.efi.tiamo in the /usr/standalone/i386 folder
3. Duplicate the boot.efi file that is in that folder (command + D)
4. Change the name from "boot.efi copy" to boot.efi.Tiamo
5. Restart

Then, after this previously described procedure, you run the update to 10.10.2 from the Apple App Store??

And, this will solve the problem of 10.10.2 not installing correctly...??

I hope this helps other 10.10.2 sufferers!!

Thank you so much, Hennesie2000!!!"

EFI tiamo and booting linux

This thread has really got me interested, and I was wondering if those who had made use of the Tiamo wizardry had successfully dual booted some other 64 bit OSes like linux with it?

The reason I ask is that I have a macbook 2,1 (mid2007) which I understand cannot upgrade in osx past lion with the Tiamo fix because of graphics issues. But if the tiamo fix can boot a modern 64bit linux that has the graphics drivers for GMA950 graphics, that would be of real interest to me.

Am I right in thinking that it would have to be a single boot linux macbook (if this idea is in fact a goer) as a Tiamo fix EFI would stop me from booting the EFI32 lion OSX?

adding to previous post

just to make the above post perhaps a little clearer;

the linux that interests me is the 64 bit fedora linux iso, it can be recognised by the Mac bootmanager when you press option/alt on startup. It shows fedora as one of the boot options. On a EFI64 mac when you click on the fedora symbol it loads from there. Nice and clean native to mac solution. No need for refit/refind. I'm hoping the Tiamo fix (or the other fork?) will enable me to do it on the macbook 2,1. What are the chances?

Looking forward to any leads
Thanks

It works!

Hello to the community, i just want to thank all the people that made this upgrade on my old but still usable Mac Pro 2.1 possible. I've strictly followed mikehennessie's (which i immensely thank) pdf and it worked at first attempt, the installer was a 10.10.2. My machine has an Intel SSD and Yosemite runs pretty fast on it...
Well, that's all for now, all the best to everybody.

2 GC running ?

Hello,
Anyone has succeeded to have 3 screens on 2 graphics card running ?
I have 2 GT610 (1GB & 2GB) in a MacPro2,1.
They are both recognized by Yosemite 10.10.3 but only one card running at a time...
I remember there was a trick with kext extensions in Mavericks, but cannot find it anymore. Not sure it would even work the same.

Any hint is much appreciated.
Thanks.

I had troubles when upgrading to 10,1,2.
This time i used pikeyosefix https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/20533461/ before downloading the 10,1,3 update from the AppStore, and everything went OK.

Sorry for the late response, but I tried using that fix, but now what I get is a black screen after the loading bar is 1/3 full.

This is quite frusterating. I remember having this much trouble when installing Mavericks on this thing though (I tried SFOTT a million times and it never worked for me). What I do have is a Macbook Pro that is already running Yosemite. Maybe I can remove the Macbook HDD and install to the MacPro HDD while hooking it up though the USB dock I bought some time ago, then replace the boot.efi as necessary. Will that work?

Shogun.

EDIT: The guide I followed had said that the X1900 doesn't work. Is this the problem? This is the only Mac EFI compatible video card I have. My GTX 760 is a stock PC OEM card, so I can't see the boot screen with this one.

What does target disk mode do? I don't have a firewire cable either. :(

If this is the problem, then I think I'm thoroughly screwed. I just tried it with the GTX 760, still nothing.

Shogun.

I had a hard time creating a Yosemite installer with SFOTT. With mavericks and ML no problem. What I did was download the pre made SFOTT Yosemite DMG from the first page and restore it to a USB stick. It booted and installed no problem with my stock X1900xt card. After that I switched out my card to a better one.

it's 10.0 so just use the pike script and then you'll be able to update to 10.3

Cheers
