Yes, I posted about it on the previous page. I called apple care and they took care of it in a few minutes. You will need to log into appleid.apple.com and generate a temporary support pin. Then give them that 12 digit code. Then you should be able to login fine.

You will be asked for a serial number. Make sure you are using your real Mac Pro serial number.

I thought it was something like that. I wonder why it suddenly happens?

It originally happened to me one morning after using it fine the night before. It has then reoccurred when ever I made a hardware or firmware change. I upgraded my processors and it happened again after flashing the 2.1 firmware. Then it happened again after I reflagged the 1.1 firmware when trying to trouble shoot a problem. I have called them 3 times with this issue and even though they know I am running Yosemite on an unsupported Mac they haven't questioned helping me get it fixed.

Hopefully I’ll be met with the same attitude.

Yep, sorted. They didn’t even ask me what OS I was running.

Doesn't matter really because any OS that supports iMessage is unsupported on a MacPro 1,1/2,1. One person I talked to said they received a memo in the early part of August addressing this issue so I don't think it is limited to just us legacy Mac Pro users.

I was kind of scared that they’d say, sorry your machine isn’t supported.

everything is fine here with Clover 2774 and DP8 on my Mac Pro.

Working great here too with Chameleon except for Messages. I just updated as normal through the App Store - I haven't been running the Recovery update though. Fans were running at top speed on first restart but after shutting down and restarting again everything was normal.

Still haven't been able to boot into Clover. I am running a non-Mac graphics card so the Option-Boot command isn't really available. I didn't dig too far into it after that, bit busy this weekend.

Clover vs. Chameleon

Hey all,

I have tiamo's boot.efi running Mavericks perfectly on my Mac Pro 1,1 with Mac version of HD5770.

I've been keeping up on all your valiant efforts through the forum and I must applaud the group, thanks to all of your efforts we are keeping our aging 1st/2nd Gen Intel Mac Pros alive and well.

My question for the group is what are the pros and cons between using Clover vs. Chameleon?

Obviously we all want Tiamo to surface again with a boot.efi for Yosemite but in case that doesn't happen, it would be good to understand the differences between Clover and Chameleon.

Many many thanks again!

Cheers,

Azi

If you are using the terminal command to boot into legacy mode you should not hold option after the boot chime. It will automatically boot into either Clover or Chameleon. Many people here are not using a flashed or Mac card including myself.

Right now Clover is a more complete method in my opinion because everything works including Messages.

Chameleon is perhaps a little easier to setup and it has no problem booting from a GPT or MBR. Clover does require a MBR to boot which either means a second HDD/SSD or you have to setup a Hybrid MBR using command line tools.

Thanks that helps.

As far as using Clover and a second HDD is that second HDD just used for booting? If so, would it work with a USB drive (and disconnect after boot) or could I create a separate partition? Or would I need to use a totally separate drive sled?

Thanks again,

Dz

Legacy mode doesn't load USB drives so it has be on a second sled or connected to one of the on-board sata ports. If you want to use it in a second partition you have to create a Hybrid MBR. Creating the hybrid MBR isn't really that hard if you are somewhat comfortable with terminal commands. Read through this http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/hybrid.html.

Out of curiousity, does anyone who has done the 2,1 firmware upgrade get this before booting into Chameleon or Clover:

I get it for a few seconds before the blinking underscore in the upper right before Clover boots. It is a result of upgrading the firmware but I don't know if it is normal.

EDIT: Nevermind it is a Clover issue.

Im getting that message again when trying to login to iMessage. I restored and unlocked my iPhone 5 last night and that is when it stopped working. I am not sure if that is just a coincidence or if that affected it.

Does anyone know who Tiamo's boot.efi kept iMessage working properly? I tried using clover to use my Hardware UUID from when I am booted using OS X Lion but that didn't seem to work (it does show up in system profiler as the custom UUID though). I am going to try booting into Mavericks using Tiamo's boot.efi and see if I can log into iMessage then.

Update:
Tried booting to Mavericks using the Tiamo method with no luck but no error involving a customer code. Just a more generic error saying an "Error occurred during activation". The UUID in Mavericks is the same as the one when booted in Lion so I will keep my Custom UUID with Clover so that it matches in Yosemite and it shouldn't change. I suspect that using the "InjectUUID" option in the Clover config.plist is changing the UUID periodically. Which is when it stops working and the machine has to be force activated by Apple Support. I guess it is back on the phone with Apple.

Bummer man!
I’ve just upgraded to iOS8 and no issues so far.

They must be getting a lot more calls with this issue because the process on the phone is much shorted. You just have to give them your Apple Id and the code now. No need to give them a temporary support pin or your serial number. On the Tiamo MacRumors thread lots of people are also having the same issue with Mavericks so it is definitely not something related to Chameleon or Clover.

Technically I’m still part of the Tiamo thread, I’m just observing here to see how easy Yose gets to be.

Any idea if Tiamo will do a boot.efi for Yosemite in a near future ? I'm wondering if I update my 10.9.4 system to 10.9.5 or if I wait until 10.10 :) Because I guess I can't apply the delta update only without breaking the tiamo boot ? I have to prepare a new install usb key ?

God I hope so.
The 10.9.5 will break your system, (well the combo will anyway).

What Mac do you have?

You mean that I just need to download the combo update from Apple, and that's it ?

BEWARE OF THE COMBO UPDATER!!!! If you have 10.9.4, simply use the delta , regular updater. Unless you have a script in place that restores Tiamo's boot.efi every time you shut down your computer, the combo will brick your unsupported Mac (because there was a bona-fide, incompatible boot.efi with 10.9.2).
