Hi Guys,

I've done some searching but not come up with anything conclusive. Can someone tell me if this 802.11ac wireless card will fit into my Mac Pro 1,1?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Broadcom-BC...TF8&qid=1416337578&sr=1-1&keywords=BCM94360CD

I already have the airport card installed, but am looking to take advantage of handoff etc.

Am I right in thinking i can install this in the same slot as the original airport card, and won't need a PCI-E adapter on my MP 1,1.

Cheers,

Tom

You need the adapter. Check my post before this one...#1874.

I have a 1,1. The card and adapter combo replaces your existing airport extreme card. Your existing BT card is not needed. There are 4 jacks on the new card. Jack 3 (J3) is where you plug the BT antenna. J0 and J1 is where you plug the two antennas from your old airport extreme card. There is also an unused airport antenna that I plugged into J2.

With the card (jacks) facing you the jacks are ordered: J2 J3 J1 J0.

Hey Hennesie - What is meant by KP and what would you need me to get to aid the troubleshooting effort?

Thanks

KP = Kernel Panic which is the Unix version of a blue screen of death. Where your screen shot says "Unknown" it would normally list a driver or process that caused KP.

It doesn't actually say unknown though that I see - It lists unable to find driver for this platform : ACPI and then lists IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1590

Does that narrow it down to a power management issue?

Here are my system details (as mentioned, I'm running hacked boot Mavericks currently successfully):

Memory: 12 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP21.007F.B06
SMC Version (system): 1.15f3

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT:

Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

VRAM (Total): 512 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)

Can you boot into safe mode?

I still have my working Mavericks install. I haven't been able to hold down option key on boot up because my wireless keyboard doesn't seem to register until I get into Mavericks, so I select what to boot from in there. Is there a way to specify booting in from inside Mavericks or can I create a USB boot partition that is Safe Mode (Do you mean the recovery partition?).

Put this in terminal. It will make it always boot into safe mode which is not the same as the recovery partition.

Code:
sudo nvram boot-args="-x"

Always? How do I undo it when I need to? Also, If I enter when I'm in Mavericks, will it apply when booting with thumb drive into Yosemite installer?

To undo

sudo nvram boot-args=""

It did the same thing so I turned the power off and removed the drive and powered back up. Now it's got the white screen up with the apple and is a 1/4 of the way of a status bar loading along the bottom after sitting for 20mins..

Back in business. So.. what to try next? Why wouldn't safe mode work you think? Even in the working os x..

Just a thought, but is it possible that 10.10 doesn't have the model number or some other card-specific ID listed in the driver or associated kexts? It wouldn't be the first time that a card they might consider borderline or outdated gets dropped without warning.

----------

Just did the App Store update to the 2006 Pro - installed and booted clean, no issues. Actually installed in less time than the I7 mini, and in half the time of the I5 mini.

Note to those wondering if the EFI mod is worth it... My Pro is an eBay steal, even with upgrading it from a 1,1 to a 2,1 clone I still have less money in it than I do in my 2012 I7 mini, and honestly in the apps I use it runs circles around the I7!

:)

I reset the PRAM and the machine came back up just fine.

Took a look at the signal strength after swapping the antennas (wi-fi turned off) and am only getting -78 at the strongest point. So, I'm guessing that's the problem and the only real answer is to get a USB BT antenna.

Thanks to Hennesie2000, I was finally able to update my MacPro 1,1 to Yosemite last night. The update to 10.10.1 also went perfectly. Thank you to everyone for your help and suggestions.

I had been having trouble with the new 16 GB Toshiba drive I had prepped, but I used Carbon Copy Cloner to move everything from that Toshiba drive onto an older 8 GB USB stick and it worked beautifully the first time.

Little Snitch 3.5

Hey Guys,

To start off just wanted to thank all those who have enabled me to be running Yosemite on my Mac Pro 1,1 for the past few weeks. It's been a great experience.

I just updated Little Snitch to 3.5. The boot took forever and then Little Snitch would not start, giving an error about "could not load extension". I reinstalled from a full download version but with the same result. This update also broke the shut down of my mac, which I had to hard reboot each time.

I'm currently restoring from a backup i made last night.

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this issue, whether it was a problem with this update on Yosemite in general, or because we are running on unsupported devices.

Thanks for your help.

Little Snitch 3.5 update made my Yosemite 10.10.1 Unbootable.. Had to reinstall from a backup.

update

There haven't been any updates for 10.10 yet but you can expect one of them in the future might. If you use Tobyg's script for Mavericks you can replace the boot.efi.tiamo that it puts in the /usr/standalone/i386 folder with this new one and change the name to boot.efi.tiamo and it will function just like the script did with Mavericks.

The steps would be to:
1. Install the script but DO NOT restart.
2. Delete the installed boot.efi.tiamo in the /usr/standalone/i386 folder
3. Duplicate the boot.efi file that is in that folder (command + D)
4. Change the name from "boot.efi copy" to boot.efi.Tiamo
5. Restart

hello
I want to know how to open the pkg tiamoTM to change folders and I do not understand because with all the translation that is not easy I remerci you very much
kind regards
