Did somebody here perhaps tested target display mode with his 2011 iMac using the vbios/bootrom patch from Nick ?
I spoke with Nick about this, according to him it might work, but he has not tested it himself.

I dont have a thunderbolt cable, so i am not able to test it as of yet.
Perhaps somebody here does.. ?

I also spoke with nick about true implementation for displayport signals to the target display mode function of the 2011 iMac's.
By default the only run on true full thunderbolt connection, and not display port signals like the 2009/2010 iMac's do.
implementing this somehow/someday could be made possible according to Nick ;) !

I btw do have tested it myself so far with an Mini-displayport to display port cable but it does not work.
Perhaps atm still only true thunderbolt - thunderbolt connection is working who knows... ?
Or it is still not working at all atm.

Who can perhaps confirm and or test this.. ?

2011 iMacs can only do Target Display Mode via thunderbolt. So that could be the issue. You need another Mac with Thunderbolt for it to work...

Yes I am aware of this.
Nick could try someday also modding this.
Rominiator was also talking about modding this, to enable true display port signals for target display mode.

But Nick and me where wondering if Target display mode is now at least working again with this EFI bootscreen mods.. ?
maybe someone here can confirm.. ?

Floris - I just tested it and it's a no go. I have a 2011 iMac 27 and 2019 MacBook Air and used a Thunderbolt 1 cable with an Apple TB 1-3 adapter. Before upgrading my iMac it was running macOS High Sierra and my MacBook Mojave and TDM worked perfectly with this setup. Unfortunately its still broken...

Any chance for gtx 860m vbios update ??

as far as I know, Nick made some roms for the cards he owns himself, which include these nvidia and some amd one's.
perhaps asking nick about this, or donating him some hardware could be an idea.. ?

Of course we should be very happy in my opinion there are so many roms released for free to all of us in the first place ;).

But some MXM-A quadro roms could be very welcome for some 21,5" imac users out there as well..

perhaps somebody here can offer himself as a test person, to test some roms for hardware Nick does not own.

already, thx for testing this !
I presume you have also got the EFI mod from nick running, and then still target display mode does not work.. ?

If so, hopefully this can be fixed somehow someday..

Anyone knows how to install windows 10 using a usb flash drive for bootcamp ?

Currently only efi mode can start the setup, but i want legacy mode.

When running refind the legacy setup is visible to boot, but then I always get error message : no bootable device found, press any key to continue.

In other words i still have not found a way too make it boot into legacy mode for the setup to even start..

Wanting to create a new fresh winclone image, which is handy for flashing our upgraded video cards, for Nick's efi mod.

I think there's some mistaken terminology being thrown around this thread. MXM-A is the SMALLER version of MXM graphics cards with a 55w limit - these are what would be used in the 21.5" models. MXM-B is the LARGER variant with a 220w limit - these are what would be in the 27" iMac.

I'm more than happy to volunteer some help with K610m GK208 (MXM-A) ROM testing as I have the hardware. Also able to help testing with the Thunderbolt Target Display Mode as I have a MBA 2018 and TB3-TB2 adaptor available.

For installing Windows in Legacy mode - do you still have a Superdrive installed? You could always create an external install of an older version of OS X, which allows you to install Win7 via bootcamp which would be in Legacy mode. Then do an inplace upgrade to 10. Yes, it's inelegant - but it does the trick.

Just got a 2011 27, I am going to tear it down and put in an SSD to boot from and want to replace the GPU at the same time, It is mostly for the music studio, so all i want is a reliable GPU that wont burn out and not too costly, so am I looking at the 765m ? or something else in that sort of budget ?

Thanks for any info.

I would say then go for a dell/alienware gtx765m
Do the vbios and bootrom patch from Nick and you also can enjoy your bootscreen ;)

Hmmmm something is different...

well...

I got my eprom burner and a clip. Also have the files here, but what software do i use?

It took me a longer time to get that burner running under windows. I tested it whit my defective M-Audio Audiophlie USB and it worked. But i could not find OSX-Software for it.

I do not have the ability to edit bootrom from MacOS. Who already has editing experience from Windows, please post instructions and files (drivers, software, etc.). Thank!

Just use MacOS, it workes great.
I've followed this youtube video, Nick posted here before for us all.

I know that video... that is that one on mine YouTube channel :D

But where to get that UEFItool for mac? Is there an official site? I only found it at softpedia, all the other are windows and debian versions.

i'm sorry forgot about that..

Anyway I found MacOS/Linux and Windows versions over on Github. (see link below)

Looks to me like the post from Nick a while aggo, he is using version 0.26.0, this version can also be found in the same github link.
perhaps 0.26.0 is not in beta/alpha stage.. ?
