The K3100M and K3000M have a TPD of 75W. I do not know the TPD of the 4850 and 5850. So you might come around buying a 3pipe sink, but you need a MXM-B big sink anyway. The 5670 is a smaller MXM-A card, isn't it? This sink cannot be used.

If you burn your card doing this you are on your own, again. Obviously we need some guys willing to do some long term testing on this with the bigger

I will change the first post!

Thanks for the info. From what I've read, the 5670 is the smaller card, so I think this is the part number I need to look for, can anyone confirm that this is the correct part for MXM B card in a 2010 27" iMac? Are all 3-pipe sinks the large versions compatible with MXM-B?

Here is a link for both heatsinks together. This listing is actually cheaper to buy both.

Thanks, but isn't that the 3 pipe cpu one and the two pipe gpu one?
You're right,
It's 2 heatpipe but it's still MXM-B. I can't find any 3 heatpipe MXM-B heatsinks for sale. They still have cards attached to them and want obscene amounts of money for what is basically hot garbage. A 2 pipe MXM-B heatstink is still better than an MXM-A heatsink as there are components that need to be covered for cooling.

Thanks, sorry to be so thick, I thought I knew what I was getting myself into. I guess not! Do you think the 2 pipe MXM-B heatsink would work for a K3100m. Or would I just be better off buying a k1100m and reselling the k3100m?

I think the k3100m will do just fine with a 2 pipe heatsink, unless anyone else here has to object?

There are alot of 2010 owners here that never have complained about the 2 heatpipe heatsink. 3 heatpipe heatsinks only came with the 6970m/2011 model due to the huge heat output from those cards.

Also be prepared to Dremel the upper part of the MXM-B heatsink, it's standard procedure at this point.

5850M is about 31W TDP, 4850M 55W both use heatsink 2 pipes

K3100M 75W, K4100M or K5100M 100W must use heatsink 3 pipes version

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to read up on everything (yes, hitting the first page of course) and have been working on a 10.15.6 install over the last couple days. I believe I have followed every step to a T, but am still seeing issues with the black screen without Catalina Loader (display works with Catalina Loader) and more importantly am not getting a display output from the thunderbolt port.

A couple of notes on my install:
-I did not copy a newer version of Lilu or WhateverGreen to the Catalina Loader 0.6.0 (conflicting directions between the PDF and post saying it is the most updated)
-The version of AppleGraphicsControl.kext I have been trying to use is the 10.15.6 version uploaded yesterday morning. On my old install of 10.15.5 the newest kext at that time worked correctly
-I still got the black screen after installing the 8/16 AGC kext

I created a document to record every step I took through this process to verify I did not miss anything, but will not upload as to prevent causing confusion.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to get the display out working (using thunderbolt to Displayport adapter + Displayport to HDMI cable, cable verified working on the 10.15.5 volume)? Would trying the 10.15.6 AGC version before 8/16/20 (I do not have it if it exists) possibly help?

You need AppleGraphicsControl.kext mentioned on the fist page (I know you read, sorry)

If it's not installing correctly you need to make the Boot volume writable

Open terminal and enter:
Sudo mount -uw /
Killall Finder

Then install the Kext using Kext utility.
Finally in terminal again enter "sudo reboot".

Only one of the DisplayPorts works, I believe it is the one next to the Firewire port.

Thank you for the quick response! The link on the first page brought me to the same post I was using - I redownloaded the 10.15.6 version and used your steps above.

Unfortunately, it looks like that did not work either. I had originally installed this kext with all the others (sleep etc.) using the terminal approach from the guide and this is the only one that doesn't look to be installing correctly.

Also, @herrdude - I have a 21.5" so I only have 1 displayport. It would have been nice if it was that easy!
