Hi Nick!
The new graphics (Quadro K2100M) is a life-saver! Thanks! I downloaded the *.rom file, just not sure how to flash it. I only have this Mac to play with (no additional linux or raspberries around). Are there any instructions how to do it?
Any suggestions or links are much appreciated.
Literally everything you need to know is somewhere mentioned on the very first post of this thread, including the latest and greatest methods how to flash a new card.
Have fun reading it.

I managed to flash, using ssh connection from another mac. The problem is, it did not do anything as it flashed with what it seems to be the same as the original bios. And it did not solve the problem with dimming the back light etc. I happy to search for a newer k2100m.rom file and see if that works. Nonetheless, if there are any ideas as to why it didn't work, I'm happy to try anything. Ta!

So your first post was simply misleading. To get the backlight control working you need OpenCore. This is mentioned on the same first post, too.

Hi,

I have a 880m which im realising now is far too power hungry for my 21.5 2010 imac. I have a gtx 660m on the way. I cant seem to find the mac vbios by searching. Does anyone have a link to the bios or the post number?
Also I have a cheap k2100 as an option. What would be the better card, 660m 2gb or the k2100?

Tia :)

It must be really difficult to find:

Check the very first post of this thread about all your GPU options and yes, the K2100M is the best NVIDIA choice for 21.5" models. We do not advice to use MXM-B cards in 21.5 systems. You already know why!

Cheers, I have the bios for the K2100M I just cant find the one for the 660M. Is it just the height of the 660M that stops it being a good card for the 21.5 because the Watt rating is around the same on both cards, 50w for the 660M and 55w for the K2100M

Please do not harass the BIOS developers to go faster, release a particular BIOS, etc. Please do not clog up the thread with useless posts asking if your specific card will get a new BIOS. It takes several months of reverse engineering and testing before getting a new BIOS working.

Found on the first post nearly on the top of the page - if you want to spend another year of work into it feel free to develop a vBIOS and share it. If you cannot find it simple means there has no such vBIOS been published so far.

It is not about 20 or 50 watts, it is about the limited time we all have to spend on this.It took only nearly eight years to come this far and right now Apple dropped Nvidia support with Monterey.

Im not harrassing, I was simply asking if anyone had the bios pinned or knew of the post number if there was one. I have fully read the first page and all the guides. I was simply asking a question as to if it was the height that was an issue and the fact that the heatsink may not cover all the vram chips etc. Im not looking to move past high sierra anyway so Apple dropping support on the latest OS doesnt bother me.

We spent a lot of time on the first post to get and have it up to date. If you do not find a link or a vBIOS on the first post it has not been published (cum grano salis).

There is a search button on the top of this page. You may use it with a keyword like 660 and limit all results to this thread in case you doubt me to or the information published on the first post.

EDIT:
In the beginning users here just put in the card and tried. There is a good chance a Kepler 660 would work from the start but showing some of the seven problems mentioned on the first post.

After installing the GPU you can simply install OpenCore using the latest OCLP app to get an emulated boot screen as it is used with all AMD cards. In case your 660 GPU does not fire up the internal or an external display you might try to flash other available vBIOS versions (techpowerup.com is a great source). If you found a vBIOS working with internal and external displays, but still showing no OC boot screen you may use an GOP updater to add a GOP part to your vBIOS.

You see, OpenCore, flashing and surviving a black screen, no boot screen, GOP update - a lot of problems you may have to solve.

Your answer is in the 1st post :)
There are only two main groups of GPUs listed - AMD & nVidia.
No one can look into the oracle to foretell the future.
None of the vBIOS developers here will promise you any new cards to come.
Waiting might be a best option to some but not to others.
Only you can assess it yourself.
"Better" is very personal as described in 1st post.
There are pros & cons.
So, decide for yourself which meets your need, and whether it is available.
Many a time, you might have to settle with second best of your own ranking.

Hello friends! I have a 2011 iMac with i3 and HD 4670 video (OS Windows). My graphics card is broken. Tell me what can I replace it with with minimal effort? I am not particularly interested in speeding up work, I need the computer to work. It is difficult for me to read the whole topic for a long time, I am from Russia and I do not read English well. Thank you in advance.

Get a small MXM-A Kepler card like the K610M. All supported cards are listed on the first post of this thread in a table. You just need to read/translate this first post.

Take your pick!

EDIT:
According to the first post all MXM-A card can be installed without any heat sink modifications. You will need in some cases a small copper plate to bridge the gap between GPU and sink (15mm x 15mm x 0.5mm).

When I install open core legacy patcher 3.1 the gpu temp stay at 54c but when I install 3.0 the temp always stay at idle 42c must be something wrong with 3.1

hi, I have an Rx470 and I want to fit it in my imac 2009. Wich vbios should I use? Can I use the vbios of the RX480?

Would be much easier to tell if you could upload the original VBIOS of the card.
In case your card has 4 GB of memory the RX480 VBIOS is worth a try, in case it has 8 GB the WX7100 VBIOS would be the first choice (although that would result in a slightly overclocked GPU core).

Thank you for the quick reply.
That's my card
Of course, @internetzel is right!

It is a 4GB card with Elpida memory if you trust the label on the back side and my old eyes. Yes, you should get the latest GRML Linux flash utility and save the current vBIOS and post it here before overwriting it with amother vBIOS found on this thread.

Really nice and interesting card you found there :)

I wanted to upload it for @internetzel but I am doing it with a bios programmer and I realised that there are two bios chips. I am a little bit confused. Also the label of those chips is not common. I hope my programmer will recognize them:confused:
