Rest of the specs you have look tasty to me. SSD would be nice, as long as it doesn't inflate the price of the iMac too much.

The thing is, it does not require more than a 32g boot SSD, they could squeeze it into 8g since they dropped rosetta/ppc stuff on lion

Considering they didn't add it to the Macbook Pros, what makes you think they would add it to the iMacs?

Exactly. I think you'll see internal SSD options that are pretty much like the current offerings. Still, adding an SSD to my MBP was huge, so I plan to upgrade my current '09 27" iMac for three reasons -- to get both an internal SSD and internal HD, to get an i7-2600, and to get Thunderbolt.

To differentiate it from Macbook Pro i guess? But yes, i don't think Apple will add onboard blade SSD as standard option

I don't know why they only add it to MacBook Air, maybe if Apple add SSD as standard to iMac, it will be just too perfect, too sexy and too fast it smokes any other Macbooks :D

so what dates are we looking at now?

cant be much longer surely

Who knows? Apple likes to space out their announcements. This week, Apple announced earnings. WWDC is June 6th. So, my guess would be sometime between the two.

What about that mid May "special event" for the 10 year store anniversary. They would want something new in the stores for people to check out.

I was just at my local Best Buy playing with the 27" iMac they have on display. Basically just getting a feel for it. I haven't used the new mouse and the new flat keyboard (I'm not sure I'm fan of those yet.) Anyway, one of the employees asked if he could help. I said "No thanks, I'm waiting for the refresh in the next couple of weeks." His response.... "Ooooooh, that's not going to happen for a long time. Probably a year. They just updated the macbook pros, and with the Tsunami in Japan, everything Apple makes is being delayed."
Usually this Best Buy is great, this guy was just a tool. I thought it was pretty funny, but sad that this guy might be telling other people the same thing.

They should make anniversary iMacs: gumdrops with flat screens, thus you remove the hood and can add 4 drives and tons of RAM and PCI video cards. iMac Pro.

Why people even go inside a Best Buy is beyond my comprehension.

Best Buys are actually great if you know enough about the technology you're shopping for that you don't really need to interact with the employees. I go there pretty much exclusively for movies and games. Today I was there for Portal 2. The closest Apple Store is an hour drive from me so I figured I'd check out the iMac while I was there.

Everyone wants TB, some think it's more important than the updated CPU's and GPU's, some of you even want 2 ports...

But which TB devices are you going to connect to it?
Today, there's 1 NAS... that's all! It's the only TB device there is!

And Lacie's external dual-SSD, which they announced a couple of months ago: this summer...

Why cry for TB when there are no TB devices?
I'm begging for more TB devices! Join!
Apogee, Atlona, Western Digital, OCZ,...: give us TB video hardware, SSD's,... please!

Somewhere in the forums on iMac's threads, someone gave a list of companies that are on board with TB, which included Canon. That's what i'm waiting for.

Not blaming you. ;) its just since in my area, Circuit City closed, Best Buy has zero competition and their service has just gone down the toilet. I will shop online before I step foot in a BestBuy store. Thank heaves some new electronics retailer, HHGregg's is due to open about a half dozen stores around here soon.

Same sort of boat i check the stock levels at local stores and most places are more than happy to tell you because they think you'll purchase from them when the refresh hits.

I checked in a local Currys (uk) and the staff member got rather abusive as i left because i wasnt going to buy the current model.

Kind of a recent retro future thing. I like it. If an iMac had that kind of flexibility and expansion I would even put up with the glossy screen.

OK this guy here says that the iMac will have an i3 in it:eek:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1139393/

He can say whatever he wants...

By the way, the base iMac will probably have an i3 in it.
Since they'll be using Sandy Bridge CPU's an don't have much choise...

I'd expect:

- 21,5" iMac with i3-2100
- 21,5" iMac with i5-2300 (or i3-2120 and upgrade to i5-2300)
- 27" iMac with i5-2300
- 27" iMac with i5-2500 and upgrade to i7-2600

i5-2300 could also be an i5-2400

The guy that suggested the i3 also thinks that the 1500 dollar version will have 256mb video card. Doubt that as well.

Most likely i5-2400S or i5-2500S because of the TDP. S chips have TDP of 65W which is more suitable for 21.5" (current chips have 73W).

The i7's desktops are too hot for the iMac it seems.
The i7's in the Macbook Pro's must be smiler in speed to the desktop i5"s?:)

Was in an Apple store looking at Imac 27'' and heard 2 customers tell Apple employee they are waiting for the new model. Seems that many people are waiting and Apple is not dropping any info.
I expected some sort of hint of a refresh coming at the earnings conference but was dissapointed.
