I'm in the process of getting an advanced replacement (again) with the spec bumped MBP. I'll post my findings in a week or two. Hope this issue is put to rest finally.

Please, do get us an update on how that worked out, if you have the chance.

Thanks

The Reddit post does seem to suggest that the keys feel different. I guess we'll have to wait for display models to arrive in the stores and for some of the people on this thread to test the keyboard under load.

Well i did say (in comments) - he did a...weak... stress test to warm it up a little and test the keys. I didnt mean the battery..
But that person on there who has the 2017 KB says his 3rd party battery app says the battery is capacity of 6888 mAh. I can't remember when I had my 2016 MBP what coconut battery said was the capacity so is this figure more or the same as the 2016 model?

Edit:
I just answered my own question because I just went back to my iPhone pics because when I had 2 of the 2016 MBP's that I tested for 2 weeks before returning I snapped pics on my iPhone of the battery design capacity (from coconut battery) and both 2016 15" ones both said Design Capacity is 6669 mAh. (I had a Jan 02 2017 build and a Jan 30 2017 build and both said 6669 mAh.

So if this person is correct who has received their 2017 MBP w/ KL that it says 6888 then the battery in fact has been increased. That's 219 mAh increase in battery.

You deserve it especially due to the fact you have been thru a stresfull time without the laptop. Ppl should be aware that we are the reason why companies exist in the first place.

The weight of the notebooks is the same according to specs so how could the battery be bigger?

Has anyone managed to try the keyboard on the new machines yet?

I've read here in another thread that the keyboard is definitely different on the new ones. Apple knew the original design was bad and revised it. The 2016 keyboard was a beta product.

you are wrong my 2017 had this too...

my new one is fine but the enter key feels mushier than the others, but I think I have to live with it... is there any way apple would just replace - one - key ?? If they replace the whole top case I am in fear that it could be worse than right now.

the 2017 keyboard is just the same lottery!!!

Do you get the loud clicks on some keys or is the problem just the mushy enter key?

So, it seems like they calculate that most people don't mind a keyboard that lacks consistency in terms of feel and sound and which seems to break down at a greater rate than their previous keyboards - as long as it has an apple symbol on it. Welcome to the future.

My first macbook with kaby lake (2017) also had this issue: I recorded this video for the Apple Store:
.

Problem was that they had no more 2017 MacBooks without touchbar so they offered me the touchbar model (2017) for the same price of the macbook without touchbar. So they gave me a discount of 250 Euros. This one is fine except a "mushy" enter key. I think I can live with it because they gave me this huge discount, but im curious if they could replace just this key :/. I really don't want to get an all new keyboard that could be worse than this one right now.

Oh FFS, I really thought they'd have fixed it.

Well then... it sounds like the keyboard is still a beta product. Pathetic.

I couldn't agree more.

This has taught me an important lesson. One should never invest too much in one particular ecosystem. That company will then assume that your custom is guaranteed because of the pain involved in swapping and will care less about the quality of what they release.

It is quite astonishing that people are looking at buying a machine from almost two years ago as a workaround for the expensive, inadequate machines released for the previous two revisions - all because it is difficult to leave the ecosystem once you've spent many years buying applications for it and developing a work-flow.

I know that there will be those who claim that the 2016/2017 units are not inadequate, but the keyboard is a fundamental part of any laptop, and they are not of the same quality and reliability of previous models. The screen is wonderful, as is the OS, but one shouldn't have to worry about the keyboard on such an expensive computer.

You think I should accept this mushy enter key? I mean they gave me a discount of 250 Euros... but I use this Mac every day for more than 8 hours typing :(

I had to exchange so many Macs its getting embarrassing. If there wouldnt be this ****** keyboard this Mac would be perfect

I just don't know why its not possible to exchange single keys...

Hi guys,

I bought a 15" macbook pro back in December, but it had a faulty GPU and a faulty keyboard, so i waited for a bit, and bought another one in Feb, this time the Space bar had some weird noise (when normal/cold) , and when i was editing on it, many keys started having this sticky click, i told apple and they said we know about this issue and we are dealing with it, they sent out a advance replacement, this time no weird noise (when normal/cold), but as soon as i start editing more sticky clicks, so they sent me another one, same thing so i returned it.

And i decided to wait till they update the internal specs and fix all these engineering faults.

When the updated one came out, i bought it, keyboard felt a bit different, no noise during normal use, until i started editing, first 30 mins, i was so glad that the sticky clicks where no more, then i had to write an important email (editing software running in background), (w,t,y,i,p) started making that noise, including some numbers.

i called apple, told them about all these issues, and they said "probably a faulty one" , "haven't heard of this issue".
Ive decided to return this laptop, and just buy the 2015 one or the dell xps.

This is the type of experience, of several replacements with similar problems, which convinces me and others here that this is more than just a problem that affects a couple of faulty units. I firmly believe that this is a design fault, and it doesn't sound like it's been addressed in this new revisions, but I'm hoping that further testing by some of the individuals that have kept this thread alive will prove me wrong.
