I wish we could get some feedback from 2017 owners who got their machines hot and if keys got stuck or made loud noisy keys.

There are already few people reporting this issue for 2017. Essentially the same as 2016.....

Looks like Apple still don't care the quality issue with keyboard. If they do care, it would have been solved already.

I hope to get my 2017 express replacement approved soon, I'll post as soon as I test it out. I'd also like to test at the Apple store, just haven't had a chance yet. You also get weird looks when running terminal commands and pegging the CPU on the showroom floor. "Hacker!"

Just received my first replacement.. must admit, Apple CS is pretty outstanding. I brought in a refurbished 2016 2.6/512/460 which, after a few failed repairs, was upgraded to be replaced with a customer replacement unit. Not 2 weeks later they upgraded me to a brand new 2016 2.9/1TB/460.

Here's the kicker: ran the terminal command and of course, some of the keys are exhibiting the same issue; namely the '3', '5', and 'J' keys. The overall keyboard also feels a bit weird - but I can attribute that to the brand new machine perhaps. Ugh. What to do at this point... I don't really want to raise a stink cause they just did me a huge solid by basically giving me a replacement that is $1500 more than my refurbished unit... yet here we are with the same issues.

Would I theoretically be able to return this unit now? The rep did mention that the 1 year AppleCare does reset, so I have until June 2018 to purchase extended AppleCare. Does this replacement unit also allow me another 14 days to return, or does it not work that way? I'm tempted to ask whether or not I can swap out for a 2017 but at this point it's kind of unlikely. I also need the computer for a work-related project until at least end of July... so can't see myself getting the 3/5/J keys fixed until then anyway. Thoughts?

Nice of them to upgrade you, I'd still complain. They need to hear from as many users as possible. I'd demand a 2017 model with an express replacement (may require credit card hold). Tell them you need it for work, which sounds like you do. They have admitted this issue since announcing the "keyboard shim" fix, so they need to own up and make it right!

Can you elaborate on what the express replacement is? Yeah - I really need it for work. The first time they took my unit for a week to replace the display, topcase, and eventually the bottom case really put a dent in my project. I'm pretty disappointed since this has otherwise been a rather pleasant experience with Genius.

You give them your credit card #, they send a new MBP to you. Once received, you package up your "bad" MDP and send it off to Apple. If you decide not to send back your "bad" MBP, they charge your credit card. Pretty standard replacement practice offered by tech companies. Apple doesn't normally offer this service, however these are some reply extreme issues they are experiencing. This allows you to keep working and you don't suffer being unable to work for a week or more.

Ah. Makes sense, and would be ideal in my situation. I assume this has to go up the chain and be approved by higher-ups? I wonder if this service is available in Canada? Hm. Sigh.. just feel this internal debate of being such a hassle lol, but truth be told this is unbelievable for a CAD $4500 machine.

It is unbelievable. Apple screwed this up big time.

Besides the noise (which is surprisingly annoying) - is there any damage or real problems with having this? It seems widespread enough on the 15" models that it may not be worth trying to fix...

The key action feels a bit more "sticky" than it should be, but the noise is the worst problem for me.

After reading all these posts, I have decided to hold off my purchase of the new MacBook Pro until 2018. May decide to get the 12" MacBook 2017 instead. Now should I get the m3 or i5 core m?

MacBook and MacBook Pro aren't exactly comparable computers. If you can make do with a MacBook, why even consider a MacBook Pro?

Also, MacBook now has the exact same keyboard as the MacBook Pro, as well as all potential issues. With that said, I don't think you should worry too much, majority of people don't really have issues and as long as you're in the return window, you can test and see if there are any problems.

As for your question - it depends what do you want to do? Surf and write emails? I think m3 is enough. Occasional Photoshop or Final Cut Pro? i5 probably.

Well I wanted a computer with a slightly larger screen, TB3, a slightly larger keyboard. I really enjoy typing on my gen 1 Macbook 12" 2015 model keyboard. Don' think that the 2017 macbook will get as warm as the 2017 macbook pro. Hence, the gen 2 keyboard on the Macbook 2017 may not have the same problems... I hope.

I visited the Apple Store near me yesterday to have a look at the new iPads and decided to have a tap on the keyboards for the new MacBook Pro 2017.

This is not a scientific take on it, but they felt different to the 2016 versions that they'd had in the store previously: firmer and more consistent. That's not to say that they wouldn't have the sticky-key problem when under load or that they are any more reliable.

I was wearing a suit, so a member of the business team approached me to chat, and I explained why I was trying the keyboards on the new machine. He said that the problem I described had affected some machines but that they had 'solved it' on this version.

However, I am skeptical about the assurances of any sales person, so I would be really grateful if any adopters of the 2017 model could test the keys when the laptop is warm so that we can all get a rough idea of whether this problem has been solved.

Thinking of just heading into the Apple store later today and running the terminal command on the 2017s to see if anything happens heh. Would be interesting to see....

I've been meaning to do this but have not had time. The more exposure the sales floor has seeing people do this, the better chance we have of Apple fixing it! Keep us posted!
