I'd like to make a question to all of you, the people with this issue: Is this perceivable from day one? I mean, the 14 day period is more than enough to detect a problematic keyboard and, thus, return the whole unit, right?

For us, it was not initially perceived. However, as we have now gone through multiple replacements, we are sensitive to the warning signs. That is keys begin to sound different on key strike, gradually more and more typos (an issue with passwords), tactile sensation changes, etc. However, these were not noticed initially.

For me it wasn't. I was on vacations, so I barely pushed it to the limits. It was only when I got back to work that I noticed, because I started doing heavy work on it. By that time it was too late to return it and the nightmare began. I had it in repair for a whole month. I keys fixed, replaced and then a new top case.

I still have a faulty unit. I just don't have the courage to try my luck again.

Every time I want to spend 3000$ on a new MBP I come to this thread. Every time I get reminded not to do it and stick to my current 2014 model.

The 2014 is a great computer. If you don't *need* a new MBP, no reason not to wait longer.

With that said, this thread is a bit misleading, because it gathers people that have issues (and they most likely really do have them) - but most people don't really have issues.

Wow I just got a MacBook Pro 2017 nontouchbar and this one is just perfectly fine :D would have never believed that this would happen :).

Just swap your macbook as often as possible!!

To the people who got their top case replaced: did you receive the exact same one?

I was just wondering, since my top case got replaced a couple of weeks ago, and I seemed to have received one where it has the 2017 keys, not the 2016 one (control key now has a symbol, and the "alt" text on my option key has been replaced by a symbol).

They no longer manufacturer 2016 topcases (can tell by the symbols on the alt/ctrl keys) from what a Genius rep told me - so yes, you probably had a replacement topcase built for the 2017 machines.

I got a replacement from a 2016, with the same crappy keyboard, just last week. I guess people will keep getting them until they are out of stock or something :/

"this thread is a bit misleading, because it gathers people that have issues"?

So this thread wouldn't be misleading if it didn't gather people that have issues?

I think you might be underestimating the ridiculous amount of people that actually don't even bother to come to this thread or know about it.

I would guess that this thread actually represents a very small sample of people with these issues. Most people don't go running to google looking for solutions.

I had 3 repairs and I still have a faulty keyboard. Do you known the chances of that happening on a non 2016 keyboard?

So that means some people that have 2016 models that Apple is replacing their top case with the 2017 keys...so essentially these people have both a 2016 and 2017 all in one laptop?

In some cases there were replacements for the whole notebooks with new 2017 models instead of 2016.

By the way, my macbook pro 15 (2016) was also affected by these problems. Now I'm awaiting for official support to make decision what to do with it.

Yeah, seems like I now own a bit of a mutated MacBook Pro.

My sympathies that it is cold comfort to those having persistent keyboard issues but Foxconninsider posted on Reddit that Apple is in the process of testing a new E Ink keyboard with a magnetic mechanism as the "butterfly was too unreliable and too noisy." This should be considered as rumor but the poster has a reasonably respectable, albeit brief, track record for Apple supply chain info.

So I got my 2017 13" Touchbar model today, and so far the keyboard is definitely holding up.

When it's getting warm (and it already did while setting up) some keys do start sound a bit different, but it's nowhere near like the 2016 model!! That makes me really happy.

Sadly that little cracking sound, when opening the MacBook is still on my new machine, but after hearing it for one and a half week on my 2016 model, it's not that big of a deal anymore for me.

I don't quite see it... What is exactly the problem with the trackpad? Does it protrude?

These pictures are a little bit better, but it's hard to capture it on camera. The left side is slightly higher than the chassis. I also noticed that one of the USB-c ports isn't as tight as the rest of them, when I put the charger in the port is can pull it out with almost no force. I'm guessing that the repair wasn't done properly at all...

Oh Man, that would be annoying for me too...

Oh yeah I see it, that would also bug me too, it's uneven. How could Apple accept that it's normal? I'd always been feeling my world was angled looking at that.

Call Apple directly and ask to speak to Customer Service. You should be able to make arrangements to correct the shoddy "repair" service that you received. Also, let Customer Service know that you don't appreciate the sleazy excuse you were given for the damage done to your computer and the refusal to make it right.

Add me to the list. 2016 TB MBP 512. Thought it was me acclimating to the keyboard as something wasn't right. Week ago my admin password wasn't accepted and I got suspicious. Started paying closer attention and noticed keys not responding randomly. Mainly space bar and center area keys. Took to Apple today and keyboard failed diagnostics. Was sent for repair. I have no idea what I'll get back. I also complained about beach ball in Photoshop.

So I took mine in for the rattle sound and not tight usb c port. Came back with a new logic board and top case. Symptoms on the paper: "touchpad unresponsive, usb c port inoperative" (really no idea where this came from)

I still have the rattle, so I gave up on that. However, I now have this sticky keys issue with the letter Y and number 7 (same neighborhood). So far these two seem to be the only ones, and only noticeable on the left side when computer is warm. But boy is it noticeable. It sounds really bad.

What's the whole deal with 2017 keyboards and control symbols? Mine came back with this:

If I get a 2017 I may give it a chance. If my 2016 comes back with 2016 parts I am 100% selling and getting 2015 model. I 2015 13" 16GB 256 SSD hit the Apple Refurb site last night and disappeared fast. If I have to check it daily I will. Or find one NIB somewhere. I could fund an iPad 10.5 with the difference.
[doublepost=1501766795][/doublepost]A good question is if 2016 refurbished models are getting the 2017/improved keyboard.

It is a good machine. Quiet, cool, with MagSafe and ports, an excellent screen and an acceptable keyboard.
Only thing, it is a bit heavier...
That is good to hear. I just hope it runs Lightroom and Photoshop well. The read/write speeds are not ludicrous but I am OK with over 1K each way. I am OK with the weight as my computer lives at a desk in our office. My iPad Pro is what goes with me most places.
[doublepost=1501793125][/doublepost]I have to give it to Apple. That was fast. It was sent in yesterday, received today, repaired today and shipped out. Guessing it's at the store tomorrow.

They aligned the keyboard and replaced the top case with battery.
Will be interesting to see if it is with the 2016 or 2017 top case.
Now the decision is do I sell it and keep the 2015 13" or keep the 2016.

Okay so my 2016 tB MacBook Pro 15 also got the sticky keys problem. Went to the Apple Store, talked to a genius, showed him the video of the problem and he said that "I've heard about this issue and we do have a replacement routine for it". That was to change the top case with battery. I agreed to that and two days later I got a new top case. I went to the battery cycle count to see if it really was changed and yes, now it said "Cycle count: 0".

Strange thing, the keys on my replacement is much better. Doesn't sound as clicky, they are softer and better. BUT i still seem to have the old top case with the "alt" text on the alt key and no symbols on the keys as others are reporting when they had the top case replaced to the new revision.
