I am sure that’s true as well (the characteristics) just as I know photographers can look at JPEGs from various cameras and tell you in a split second whether it came from a Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.

Another reason many shooters never save images as jpeg unless it is for casual use (posting, etc). Shot raw and adjust in post to your style.

Not a single non-LG in this thread of 5 pages across both sizes. I think the case is closed... for now.

Unless later builds months later incorporate multiple like a late run 2018

The biggest difference I have noticed and it is obviously a hardware choice is that the 2018 does not seem to have as high a maximum brightness on battery as the 2016, but while plugged in they both seem to achieve relatively the same brightness.

System Prefs, Energy Saver, Battery, uncheck the box marked "Slightly dim the display..." ???

My 2016 ntb is exhibiting spotlighting at the bottom of display so I'll have to get it swapped

Curious if it will be LG
Or Samsung but a display without spotlighting will be a good one Hana

A034 again, and no LP in the serial# when running that command

I think my replacement 2016 screen is a Samsung too

That’s interesting bc the left exhibits pink to green

That’s normally a Samsung thing for the less than stellar panels

Do I have a good eye or what?

The lack of range of purple and orange was the giveaway to me the left one lacked contrast comparatively.

Whether or not it matters that’s up to the user :p

I put that wavy wallpaper on my nTB 2016 and it has a good orange spectrum too
I agree with the right looking better as well, contrast and color depth seems to be better.

A couple quick pics of a 2016/2018 Samsung vs LG

Probably a dumb question, but where do you find out which manufacturer created the monitor on a Macbook Pro? I have looked in System Information and can't seem to find it.

Please type this command in the command prompt:
ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r

If you see LP, then you got LG panel. If you do not see LP, then you got Samsung.

My 2017 macbook pro is Samsung Panel and it is WAY BETTER than my 2018 LG panel in terms of brightness and color. I was wondering how to get the Samsung panel. I have already returned 4 macbook pros but all of them are LG panels.

Mine says this on a 2017:

PT|?@P4 K??Color LCD

Which is it? LG or Samsung?

I purchased a 15" 512gb/2.6ghz machine but had to return it the next day as the screen wasn't uniform, green tinted and darker on the sides and pink and brighter in the middle. It had an LG screen.

I picked up the 13" 512gb 2 days ago and it would have the most uniform display I have ever had in a mac. Also an LG screen. Very happy with it. Lets hope nothing goes wrong with the 13" as I scored when it came to the screen and I am very particular.

its sad that getting a great screen for such an expensive product is a 'score' but I cant argue with it either! been there too many times

I have a 15" model with a beautiful LG screen and I'm one of those who are picky with screens too. I've had the computer since 7/15 and no problems to date. Good luck with your new computer.

Hi everyone! I just changed third mbp 2018. And one of the issues was dark, yellowish screen in comparison with others mbp 2018 in apple store. And the problem is that it's visible to me not only while comparing side by side. It's uncomfortable to work with this darker screen. I checked the one I have now. It's LG, but the previous one I had to return because of heating issue had just perfect bright screen. Unfortunately I didn't check what manufacturer it was.

Now I don't know what to do, but this muddy screen really bothers me, I even rather put up with more heating but want that screen back.
