I am sure that’s true as well (the characteristics) just as I know photographers can look at JPEGs from various cameras and tell you in a split second whether it came from a Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.
ok just to confirm my mate had lg
i tried two 15inch at apple LG
i tried 2 13 inch at apple LG
i think the case is closed that only lg is supplying them
which weirdly makes me feel better
The biggest difference I have noticed and it is obviously a hardware choice is that the 2018 does not seem to have as high a maximum brightness on battery as the 2016, but while plugged in they both seem to achieve relatively the same brightness.
I agree with the right looking better as well, contrast and color depth seems to be better. That’s interesting bc the left exhibits pink to green
That’s normally a Samsung thing for the less than stellar panels
Do I have a good eye or what?
The lack of range of purple and orange was the giveaway to me the left one lacked contrast comparatively.
Whether or not it matters that’s up to the user
I put that wavy wallpaper on my nTB 2016 and it has a good orange spectrum too
Probably a dumb question, but where do you find out which manufacturer created the monitor on a Macbook Pro? I have looked in System Information and can't seem to find it.A couple quick pics of a 2016/2018 Samsung vs LG

Ah, my bad, I totally overlooked that (went straight to page 5). thanks!See the first post in this topic. Instructions given by OP to search for screen manufacturer.
You might not prefer true tone but it is not a gimmick.LG. No question for me.
And it will be LG again, as soon as I get enough money for a new monitor. TrueTone is a gimmick for me anyway, I am not buying it because of that.
Whatever, it is useless for me anyway, all it does is change the color temperature of the screen, and make the colors look inaccurate and ugly. I love the colors, therefore I keep the screen as it is.You might not prefer true tone but it is not a gimmick.
Please type this command in the command prompt:
ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r
If you see LP, then you got LG panel. If you do not see LP, then you got Samsung.
My 2017 macbook pro is Samsung Panel and it is WAY BETTER than my 2018 LG panel in terms of brightness and color. I was wondering how to get the Samsung panel. I have already returned 4 macbook pros but all of them are LG panels.
Please post your Model and Manufacturer in the Displays, Color, Color Profile section, line #17
I purchased a 15" 512gb/2.6ghz machine but had to return it the next day as the screen wasn't uniform, green tinted and darker on the sides and pink and brighter in the middle. It had an LG screen.
I picked up the 13" 512gb 2 days ago and it would have the most uniform display I have ever had in a mac. Also an LG screen. Very happy with it. Lets hope nothing goes wrong with the 13" as I scored when it came to the screen and I am very particular.
