Finally, my order is "Preparing for shipping" too. Blue 16GB/1TB with numeric keyboard and trackpad.

The order confirmation said shipping May 26~31, the order page said May 31 the whole time (and "Processing" up until now).

Creditcard has also been charged. It's finally happening.

Edit: Aaaaand it has shipped. No tracking info yet, but mail suggests it'll be delivered Tuesday May 25.
well that makes me mad at apple! hubby's 16GB/1TB was confirmed for 24 may - 1 jun and is still freaking processing! UGH. i hate how apple doesn't ship "first ordered, first delivered"

Well @caligurl looks like you are right about Apple not releasing until the 21st. I wonder why they didn't just say the 21st and not "the second half of May"? Do you think this is their new way of releasing products preorder with no definitive date?

so i have my superdrive and 2 dongles (usb-c to usb). one to keep my current hard drives plugged in. i figure they are all already into one powered hub and another powered hub and into my computer... so i'll just plug them in directly to the new one, too using one port all the time. the other dongle is dedicated to the superdrive cuz god forbid apple update it to have the new plug that ALL their machines now use.... what's another $17... right!?

i have a best buy hub for usb c to multiple only usb (4) coming tomorrow or saturday. I've actually had good luck with their insignia hubs in the past so going to use that for now until i find something better or something with both sizes of inputs.

i can't think of anything else i need to get up and running.

i'll use an old sd card reader we have since it won't be in the computer anymore when i want to get the pics from my nikon...

anyone think of anything else i need???

OH.... so do my favorites go to the new computer when i log in? or do i have to save something to import onto the new one?

i'm sure there's a bunch of new stuff i'll need to figure out going from the 2011 to the M1

I hope not. I hope they continue to do the phones with a definitive date.
I do hope I get my iMac tomorrow I am using a MacBook Pro and I am so tired of the 13" screen. I also ordered a new iPad and keyboard but for some reason apple canceled the keyboard delivery for tomorrow even thought it's already been charged.

That's my gripe with this 'pre-order' scenario, you order on the 30th for a reason, to get it before others, but the general public will be able to head to a store and pick one up tomorrow... the way they allocate things seems crazy, this situation has made me realise to not pre-order things as it doesn't seem to work as you'd hope, my mac isn't actually leaving till the 8th, and is meant to be delivered on the 14th..

What else could they do? It is simply not possible or reasonable for them to supply everyone with a pre-order first, because there may be many weeks or even months for some products before they would be in the stores.

Meanwhile, Apple's retail partners such as B&H and Best Buy would either have them and be able to sell them in stores when Apple can't, or will be refused stock in which case Apple will lose its retail partners.

And, it would mean that those paying with something not traditionally usable online (cash, for example) would have no purchase options at all.

The way they do it seems pretty fair, because it means anyone with the means can pre-order, and anyone with an Apple store or retailer in their area can go and try and get one on the day. This method provides the least bias possible towards customers and potential customers, and it also means that if for whatever reason you weren't able to pre-order, or even if you were and wanted more than one or an alternative choice, you can still head for the store on release day and try and get one there too.

What they could do better, I think, is make clear which models are the best to pre-order for release day delivery, and what stock levels are likely in stores. But they haven't really done either of those before.

I fully understand where you are coming from in terms of giving pre-order customers to spec out a BTO, and general retail customers the chance to try them out and buy them in store, but, why wouldn't they have say an allocation of so many per model already set in production before the pre-order date, because lets be honest they'd certainly sell them??

Or is that not have factories work now? i've never pre-ordered before as the iMac is the first product i've wanted / needed to replace, like you say, the spec i've ordered could be in store, but I won't know that till tomorrow..
