I received it today! Setting it up now, although the screen size difference from my 27" iMac is very noticeable but I hope I can get used to it and fit my workflow as the 27" did. Love the Touch ID, white bezels and glass front.
I'm surprised you didn't view and try one in-store, especially as you are used to a 27". I made a trip to a store last week to spend some time with the new 24" and although it looks very neat and fresh, I rapidly realised that the smaller screen would not suffice in comparison to my older iMac 27". Another thing which didn't over-impress me was the sound, good but not exceptional as some reviews are claiming.
Having said that I hope that most early adopters will find their new iMacs rewarding.:)
Incidently, I'd be interested to know how many who have posted here, opted for AppleCare, which although rather expensive certainly gives peace-of-mind, especially for a newly released Apple product where hardware issues are more likely to occur.

Well I avoid going into stores during COVID and I didn’t think the difference would be so noticeable. Honestly I wouldn’t mind losing some screen estate, my biggest disappointment is that 16GB of RAM seems like it is being used really fast even for tasks such us browsing in safari with multiple tabs open and having a few apps open. And yes I also bought Apple Care cause I’ve been burnt with my previous two iMacs I owned as the screen started having shadow spots and I didn’t have any extended warranty to fix it.

But are you happy with the 24 or is it early days? 16gb. Might seem to be used a lot initially, as it be spotlighting, and indexing, I would expect this to settle down over a couple of days

Yeah, I've been using it two days so far it certainly looks beautiful and works very nice. I can't say if I'm happy yet as I haven't done any CPU intensive tasks yet to have a better judgment but I can say that I love the new redesign that harkens back to the '98 iMacs, love the colors, the all-glass front, white bezels. Maybe the next redesign will be a revamp of the G4 lamp iMac :), an adjustable stand like the G4 or the XDR screen is something I am waiting for years and I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get it with the 24" iMacs. I hope you're right about spotlighting and indexing, that would make a difference in the coming days for sure.

I’ve not received mine yet but It went to preparing to ship 14 days before first day of scheduled delivery. It shipped out the next day from China. It scheduled to deliver on the 20th so eight days before my July 28th - Aug 4th window.

8/8/16 256 Grey.

Wow. So it’s really different for everyone. There’s no exact timeframe of when it will prepare for shipping etc.

Mine went to preparing to ship on Monday, July 5th, to shipped on Thursday, July 8th. I received it on the following Monday, July 12th. It was due from Apple, July 15th-22nd. Then, Apple said it would be delivered on July 16th, but it delivered four days early, to the US. So, hopefully sooner than later, but you just never know.

Personally, I find the 24" size perfect. Previously the two Macs I used were a 13" Macbook Air at home and a 27" iMac at work. I've always found the Air annoyingly small (can't work with two documents side by side or Word track changes without making text uncomfortably small), but I find the 27" a little too big and I usually end up moving windows to the middle of the screen and effectively ignoring the edges of the display. The 24" iMac is ideal as everything fits in my field of vision at my preferred focal distance, and I can comfortably fit two documents on screen at once.

As for Applecare, I probably will buy it (once I've paid down the iMac a bit) for peace of mind, even though two of the selling points (cover for accidental damage and coverage overseas) seem much less relevant for a desktop than other devices.

Well, Apple say today but UPS say tomorrow (no real issue). (June 9th order, initial delivery date 29th July)
Need to try out the audio first then load a some family vid conversions work stuff to see if it runs OK after reading a few worried threads (existing 2013 does take a while now). Didn't realise the audio was stuck on the side, good job I have a spare Neutrik 90 degree.
Hope the existing USB hub for my backup disks works OK, I have bought adapters ready. Might look into a powered USB C hub if there is a gain running hard drives.

I ordered an 8/8/16/1TB Blue iMac on June 30 with an original ship window of Aug 2 to 9

Today at 11:30 EDT my credit card was charged and at 1 PM it went to Preparing to Ship.

They seem to be making significant progress on the backlog of orders.

Contacted Apple this morning as mine has been stuck on processing since 13 June. They expect it to ship in 3-4 days.

My order window was 26 July - 2 August so it should be delivered with that period, just annoying that some are getting theirs in advance of the projected dates.

I am in the same boat as you. Ordered June 10 with expected date of 23 July to 30 July. Mine is cutting it real close.

Ok, arrived. Migration assistant has managed to bork It to kingdom come twice now.
set it aside for now as my mood is refund.

edit. Migration assistant is in the same league as podcast and book software. Dire for my money. Can I copy the library across manually, just dump user library from old to new?

Might not be the method for you, but my transfer strategy - whether to a new Mac or to a clean install of a new OS - has always been to manually move selected items over from an external backup. Many of my files are on an external drive anyway so that is just plug in rather than migrate.

iCloud does its thing for certain files and data, I drag my iTunes files as the main import (getting this pointing to the right place can need tweaks), and some selected folders/data from Application Support and Preferences.

I set up all my email accounts fresh. This is where a challenge can be as I’ve found I need to export each mbox individually after first taking them out of any folders and then import them to the new Mail (I only keep mail filed locally).

Caveats, I’m running High Sierra on a 2012 iMac so it has been sometime since I’ve had to do the above so my method may not be wholly up to date, but I’d suggest moving individual chunks from Library in stages rather than just dump the whole Library from one to the other machine.

Everyone here better take some lovely pictures once they’re set up! Messy desk/clutter & all. It helps keep my hype from going overboard!
Here is mine. iMac is only a day old, so not enough time to clutter the desk yet. Although I won't win any design awards, the computer looks really good on my desk. Its exceeded my expectations and really is the perfect computer for me. The compact, all in one design is ideal for my small desk. Laptops are too small and big towers are a pain sometimes. The single cord, wireless accessories and built in speakers make this a great computer for my needs. Plus the screen looks amazing. Very happy customer.
