It is integrated into the power/sleep-wake button on Air 4 and works very well in any orientation in my experience. When you set it up, Apple also encourage you to register different fingers for landscape/portrait. So I have two index fingers registered on mine.

Check this out:

Good article thanks...shame the pro doesn’t have such an easy feature especially in these times...just means that this iteration was planned well in advance and couldn’t be changed

couldn't pay me to use the crap screen on the Air. Side by side in the store 60hz make it look like a stuttering POS. 120hz is worth the money plus the extras
Welcome to the forum firstly. That’s an interesting claim as the screen in my Air looks great. I’ve had no issues with stuttering and it’s fast and fluid. I’m usually extremely lucky with Apple products though and rarely encounter the issues many here experience over multiple devices.

Some people just over-hype 120hz, it's a nice bonus, but nothing spectacular and definitely nothing that prevents you to use a 60hz screen... I move with no issues between 120hz and 60hz devices and as long as they are fast (and anything A12 and above is damn fast) they are totally smooth...

True but if you need any storage over 64 gig, the pro is only $50 more than an air. The cheapest pro comes with 128 gig.
In the 256GB config the price difference is $150. I wanted more than 128 so I got the 256GB Air. The price difference is not trivial at that capacity, especially when combined with the $60 difference in AppleCare pricing– the Pro with AppleCare is more than 25% more expensive.

16gb of ram is a massive deal for me. Prior to the procreate update a 600dpi canvas I used could only handle 1 layer. Basically, unusable. I get 12 layers after the update. Amazing!

I was planning to get the air, but 64gb is not enough storage. The price in the uk jumps to £729 for the 256gb version vs £749 for the 128gb Pro. So was a no brainier to me to go for the Pro.

No idea why there isn’t a 128gb option for the Air, as this would seem like the sweet spot to me.

But doesn't the 8GB option offer just as many layers?

So you're forced to spend more. Really would be good if Apple offered 128GB for $50 extra like they do on iPhones.

Yes you made the right choice no question, £20 more for the base Pro 11 model is a no brainer. Apple do not want to give you that ‘sweet spot’ with Air storage, but rather upsell you to the base Pro 11 model.

Cut the drama that’s just trolling.
I'm serious, I hate it. Especially with the same design as the Pro 11, it ends up looking like a Chinese knockoff. The bigger bezels are noticeable, and the refresh rate makes it look stupid after using the Pro. Would've been nice like 5 years ago.

Really? I used an Air 4 and Pro 11 side by side and ... yeah, I couldn't tell much of a difference. Scrolling? SLIGHT difference but you get used to it REALLY quick and don't even notice it - and I've used a 2018 Pro 11 for years and years (read dozens and dozens of books). Air 4 has a great screen.

I just have to shake my head when I read comments like this.

Is this some kind of elitist angle or something? It’s like you’re putting the Air down to get whatever replies you can.

to each his own, my wife has the air 4 and i have the 11 pro.. side by side, scrolling difference is very noticeable to me

4 years ago, when promotion first came out, it was touted as a gamechanger for displays.

On this forum I've noticed there are people who MUST have the 120hz and others who aren't really bothered by it. I noticed the scrolling difference but my brain adapted fairly quickly (I used an Air 4 for a few weeks before gifting it to a relative). I definitely prefer the Pro 11.

The same was said about OLED on iPhones but many can’t tell the difference in quality between an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 12. I’m glad I didn’t buy my 12 for it’s display as my work phone 11 is just as good. Techy people get far too hung up on minor details most wouldn’t notice.

So do you think that your iphone with its 60hz screen looks like a chinese knock off or looks ‘stupid’ next to Android phones with 120 hz displays lol.

Air 4 256Gb £729
iPad Pro 11” 128Gb £749 - £20 more
iPad Pro 11” 256Gb £849 - £120 more.

These are UK prices, I currently have a 10.5” Pro 256Gb. I’m thinking, I have max iCloud 2Tb, that I could manage with 128Gb as looking on my current Pro I just have a load of iTunes movies/series on.

I fancy an upgrade, due to my current Pro getting older battery, worries on white spot issue, and the obvious upgrades get.

Personally I was erring to Air 4, but then new Pro 11 came out with M1, and for the extra £20 I think it’s worth it, even though it’s 128Gb version.

I may push and get the Pro 11 256Gb, purely for future proof and more storage option.

Personally speaking I now think after the new 2021 Pro, the Air 4 is pushed back a bit whereas before it was a very close call. I think the Pro is now better than the Air 4.

The M1, more RAM which Apple have now specifically detailed for the first time for some reason, better screen make the extra £20 a no brainer to me, if can get along with 128Gb. But even the £120 extra seems to me not bad, especially if can get on a 0% sea to spend cost.
