Rather than comparing drivers I’m more interested in this weeks race.
I so hope the Mercedes and Ferrari extensive upgrades make them compete with RBR. But somehow I doubt it.
The DRS advantage that RBR is just too great. Especially when they are already quick without it.
I think you can't avoid some historic chitchat during a period where there is no racing. But yes, I much prefer the here and now also, and looking forward to seeing what upgrades are on the track. It is getting rather embarrassing when under the same rules and budgets they can't get close to Red Bull for so long now. All the other teams have got is hoping for a mistake by anyone on the Red Bull team, surely they can bring more to the game than that. I'd like to see everyone level up.

Spain is probably going to be our best chance in this first half to see some real competition since everyone tests at Barcelona so they go in with a solid performance baseline to compare their new kit against so they should be able to spend more time tweaking for maximum performance.

I think the change to the last corner will play into Red Bull's hands to be honest. If the pit straight is the DRS zone, i doubt anybody will be close enough to the back of them to use it. We might see Alonso come under pressure from a Mercedes if we are lucky. Fingers crossed Perez is full of confidence and gets pole at least, but expect Red Bull to give Max the optimal strategy again.

Breaking news that Imola has experienced serious flooding with personel evacuating the circuit. Doubts the grand prix will go ahead at this stage.
That’s not good. Seems like ages since we had a race. Wet then dry then wet again is probably the best race we can hope for at the moment. Track dries just as Max puts on full wets, then a SC and everyone else gets a free pit stop. He’d probably still win.

Looks like the worst weather is today and tomorrow so hopefully they can get the track into a usable condition by the weekend, which is expected to be wet but manageable. Pirelli are bringing a new Extreme Wet tire that is said to work much better when "cold" (so no tire blanket required) which should help if the track is just wet.

Ok. But I think the Red Bulls should start on cold hard used slicks! 😀

Probably still win 😢

Imola Grand Prix has been cancelled due to the severe risk. Shame but the right decision.

🤡 Red bull gets 1 & 2, Aston Martin 3rd place and a lucky dip for everyone else 😂

Seriously though. It’s really bad, and the right decision.

It’s been announced Imola has been cancelled. Judging by the images they had no choice.

A bit longer to wait it seems

The right thing to do given the circumstances. But now I have nothing to watch this weekend! First world problems and all that. Hopefully they can reschedule.
More importantly hopefully the situation improves for the people living through it.

Hopefully they can reschedule.

First opportunity would be 11 June, the weekend after Spain, but Canada is the following weekend so that might now allow enough time to ship kit and people to Canada.

My guess is if it is rescheduled, it would be for 16 July, which is the weekend between the British and Hungarian Grands Prix since it is on the way from Britain to Hungary.

If neither of those two dates work, I cannot see it being run this year since the weekend after Hungary is Belgium and then we go into the Summer Break. When that ends, there are two final EU races back-to-back (Monza and Zandvoort) and then they are off to Asia and the Americas with the only open weekend being 15 October between Qatar and COTA and that seems too tight to fit in Imola.

It appears that FIA has decided NOT to reschedule the race at Imola. Which could make the race at Monaco more interesting as teams will have more time to tweak their cars specifically for the Monaco street course.

Personally, I believe F1 will eventually formally strike the race from this year's calendar as it will be too difficult to reschedule it later in the season.

Many teams were planning to run new upgrades this weekend, but I expect most will now be pushed to Spain since Monaco is not the best place to try something new.

It was not cancelled, as this would affect the future of the event, if the FIA used the word cancelled, then it is exactly that, over, the wording was "not to proceed" this means that it is postponed, and it has been proposed that the 2023 event take place in 2026, this being that the IMOLA circuit contract for FIA F1.F2.F3 events was to expire in 2025, but using "not to proceed.." this could extend the contract to end 2026, to allow for the replacement for 2023 to occur, this is mere speculation at this point, and subject to confirmation at a later date, but the wording by the FIA was not to cancel, but "not to proceed" which has legal ramifications later.

8 dead. I hope that is the extent of loss of life.

Yeah awful events out there. A Grand Prix is pretty insignificant when you see how much misery the people of Imola are experiencing right now.

Cool to see Alpha Tauri staff including drivers helping with the clean up. I saw a picture of Tsunoda shovelling mud as they were one of the few teams who had travelled to the circuit.

Agree. It would have been awfully insensitive to race if it were even possible.
Not having a race to watch this weekend is pretty insignificant compared to losing a loved one or your home.
Living in Worcestershire we get a lot of flooding. Fortunately not where I live though.

I've read some of the teams that were already there were helping shovel mud etc etc

Anyone missing their motorsport fix should get Guenther Steiners "Surviving to Drive" on the 2022 HAAS season. It is funny and has some interesting tidbits of info on people and teams. I would suggest the Audiobook as he narrated it himself.

Nurburgring 24H has 4 hours remaining and has been great. GTWC America is at COTA this week. BTCC is at Snetterton.

I made an iOS app for motorsport calendars.

TheRacingLine.app. It is subscription as I keep 50 series up to date myself. Gives you notifications before a race starts, and a run down of the day/week ahead.

Hoping v2 will be out during the summer which will have more series, more sessions (prac/qual), links to streaming and timing.

Cool!

I'll check it out!

Finally the FIA makes a decent decision... I think I saw videos of people clinging onto window sills to avoid being take by the flood waters.. I don't think the calendar will miss it considering how many races there are this year, but perhaps they could fit an other one in somewhere?
