Also not sure about Perez's penalty? Speeding in the pit lane because he aquaplaned and hit the wall? Again due to the late call as he was racing. When it's chucking it down and cars are going off stop the race! Don't wait another three laps.

Still he should have anticipated it I guess though.

Anyone else want Alonso to win a race? He's so close...

What a stupid late call with the red flag! They never learn do they?

I believe they called it because Zhou was in the barrier at the end of the front straight and cars were aquaplaning off the track braking into that area so there was a danger another car would go in and hit Zhou or workers. A Red Flag allows everyone to slow down immediately without risk of position whereas a Safety Car would still allow them to race until they reached it. They might have gotten away with a Virtual Safety car, but conditions really demanded Extreme Wets and nobody but Ocon were on them.

But what a daft late call even more so when the restart order is from the lap before the lap the red flag was called.

This has been the rules for decades.

Why just why did we have ANOTHER race where a Ferrari pitted and they AGAIN didn't have the tyres ready? I don't get it I really don't.

LeClerc evidently came in on his own decision when the team told him to stay out, so the team had no time to react before he was in the pit entrance. That was an Own Goal by LeClerc.

And Mercedes seemed to think their car on slicks was immune to rain slowing them down? Whilst those on inters blasted past them like they were stood still.

Not an excuse, per se, but I think how quickly the rain arrived and it's intensity caught some team strategists off guard.

You have 5 grades of tyres, extreme, inter, soft, medium and hard, 5... "ok...we need 4 green tyres, 2 fronts, 2 rears..." Ferrari had no idea what was what, who was supposed to do what? Total clown convention...

Not as bad as the poor blokes that forgot to tighten the nuts in F2, car was left with -2 rims on, piled neatly on the edge of the track...

Apparently Ferrari were unaware LeClerc was coming in...

Yes!

And Max can stop winning.

Um, expect the unexpected, I am sure someone would have said that... Sun Tzu maybe, something like, "if it looks like wet, green for go..." anyway I am sure they will be 200% ready for the next wet race.. Not like they are the first to goof a wet pitstop... Happened to car 44 in Germany...And that was way worse than Ferrari, then Poor old Merc no2 driver, driving in Jeddah, could have won the race was on the brink of lapping everyone, but Merc goofed again, then there was Mercs in Monaco, gifted a loss to Lewis.. tyre goof is almost a championship on it's own merits..

But all the weather radars said it would rain heavily? So I don’t find that an excuse, even for Mercedes strategists when literally nearly every other team pitted, I think they were one of 3 who didn’t? I think you will also find others were going off before Zhou did, the red flag a late lazy call.
The restart tule may exist, but it still doesn’t mean it wasn’t a late call to red flag the race. To me they just never learn. F1 cars are very prone to aquaplaning, and with no ABS etc it’s worst.

As for Ferrari, well that’s still on the team as well as the driver. They really are utterly clueless with strategy.

He was close due to the various external events, as in the weather and consequences, if it were a straightforward race, Max would have crossed the line with plenty of time to spare.

But yes, of all the drivers, Fernando or Lando would be cool. But as a Max fan, I'm delighted with them getting up the podium, and taking 2nd/3rd place points. I'd love for Fernando to finish 2nd overall, that would be wonderful. And Carlos as well actually, he has been so polite and hanging back behind Charles (who I like but just isn't consistent for my liking).

Furthermore, I'm also happy for Mercedes to finish out of the points for the remainder of the season, I just can't stand George, Lewis and Toto. The energy just goes out of the cool down room the moment they get involved, the relationship between the others is all good.

Does anybody subscribe to the annual F1 TV app/service? How is the experience? Located in the US and thinking of ditching our main streaming service, but would need F1 access. Also, does it get pro-rated? I’m not paying full price for half a season. I believe I recall seeing WEC offered partial price.

Yes, I use it; it's only £59/annum. You don't pay for the season, you pay for the year. It works great when I'm travelling and want to watch. Should work easily through the various TV apps in the US, but for UK users it is slightly more complex to install as you'll need a VPN to operate it.

Yes but they are trying to block VPN’s accessing it if it’s not officially available in your country. If you can officially subscribe to the pro package in the US go for it as it works great I think. My VPN is still working with it for now. You can pay monthly or for a year, but that’s from the month you subscribe to 12 months later, as stated above.

Um, expect the unexpected...

Ferrari told LeClerc to stay out and they may have done that as they were still getting the Inters ready. LeClerc ignored them and came in so they were still getting the tires ready when he showed up. I place the blame 100% on LeClerc for this one.

But all the weather radars said it would rain heavily?

The weather radars usually do list an expected Intensity, but we never saw any shots of them on Sky. And the team radio conversations and Sky presenters comments were just that "rain is expected" and not the planned intensity. It sounds like the rain arrived quicker and at a significantly heaver intensity than the radars predicted for the first lap.

I think you will also find others were going off before Zhou did, the red flag a late lazy call.

Cars were going off, but they were going slow enough that they either stayed on the paved part and returned to the track or successfully crossed the gravel trap to the paved side road and returned to the track.

Zhou applied the brakes and the car immediately aquaplaned so he went off at top speed with no braking ability and plowed into the barrier. I expect the fear was another car could do the same and either hit Zhou's car or track workers so they wanted to immediately slow the field, which a Red Flag does.

YMMV.

It was a great race, lots happening on track as per the overtakes. I must admit, Fernando Alonso taking the inner line in Hugenholtz Corner (corner 3) were some of my favourite moments. Making a move like that, at his age and in a F1 car is pretty special.

And the crowd was the best and liveliest of all circuits. Great party.

Another crazy stat from that post; "Verstappen is still yet to be overtaken this season." That is pretty spectacular as well.

Ah, so you’re still stuck with having either subscription during off season or a few months unaccounted for whenever you start your 12 month cycle.

Seriously? It is the equivalent of GBP2.53 per race, and you are arguing about off season? LOL Why not complain about having to pay during the summer break as well...

It's less than a cup of coffee from Starbucks per race weekend; and for that you get access to all the videos, three days of practice, qualifying, sprint races and the actual race.

It is seriously good value for money...

Lando did what he promised and got Max’s Hungarian trophy repaired. Shame, at least the broken one had a funny story attached to it and Max found it funny too. Horner’s personality couldn’t quite cope with the banter these two had over it though sadly.

I’m sure he’ll find another 10 to stick in front of it by the end of the season.

Late to post, but I enjoyed the race.

With the weather, it made for some very interesting strategy calls and there was a fair amount of on track overtakes.

Fernando still wants to win. I got a chuckle during this post-race interview when he "thought" about trying put a move on Max late in the race, but he knew if successful he wouldn't be able to escape. Or words to that effect. ;)
