Looks like another bout of heavy rain due shortly so that should "put the cat amongst the pigeons" again as David Hobbs would say.

Race control made the right decision, way too many cars off at T1...2nd car in the barrier, needed to be removed, too dangerous!

Yeah. Those conditions required Extreme Wets and only Ocon was on them.

Not sure where Perez will restart since he was in the pits when the Red Flag was thrown.

Well no way the team was not going to ensure Max wins at his home race, so that explains the first pit stop to give Max the undercut.

I think the call for Extreme Wets was the right one, it just happened at the wrong time. Though I could understand the team not wanting to do a stacked stop in those conditions.

Not sure about the first stop, team is saying they had to cover off Alonso which also doesn't make much sense. Max was catching Perez by 2, even 4 seconds (in "traffic"..), could have just let him get position on track.

I don't really understand how they were bringing him in during VSC when Red Flag was to be expected. Alonso also stayed out so no immediate threat.

Anyway, P3 restart so doesn't really matter, looked like P6 at time of writing.

They were able to restart so the final results:

1) Verstappen
2) Alonso
3) Gasly
4) Perez (finished 3rd, but hit with a 5 second speeding penalty)
5) Sainz
6) Hamilton
7) Norris
8) Albon
9) Piastri
10) Ocon

Probably my favourite race of the season. A lot's happening, an outstanding atmosphere, so much love for Max and Alonso. Pierre drove amazingly as well.

Yup, thoroughly enjoyed that.

It really doesn't matter. Perez wasn't keeping up with him anyway, Perez and the commentator are on a different planet if they really think it made a material difference to Perez's result.

If Perez was ahead, there is no way, that F1 would allow him to win, not at Zaandvort, no way... Perez and every driver that drives car 2 will know, they will never win races unless Max is DNF due to mechancials..

Congratulation to Fred and Pierre on P2 and P3. Nice to see Fred back on the Podium. Even though it was from a Time Penalty it was nice to see Pierre up there.

Definitely a race with just about everything thrown in that you could have. Allot of wasted opportunities with Strategies not that it would have stopped Max. Mercedes really needs to look deep at this weekend. They were Ferrari clones on strategy calls.

Really can't say anything about RB letting Max undercut. It would have happened even if it were not Zandvoort. Lewis enjoyed the same calls during his runs with Rosberg and Bottas. So, it's reality. Besides Sergio ends up with a Pit Lane Speeding Penalty anyway. Seriously Sergio?? All you do is press a button. It's not a mind bending exercise like NASCAR were you have to watch the tachometer an 2nd gear. ;)

On to Monza............

Liberty Media. Don't ever think for a minute they don't have Supreme Influence.
Yeah if it came down to penalties maybe. But this particular race was not in their hands.

I don't know if I would be watching the sport if I really noticed a rigged game race after race. But of course there's been a fair share of entertainment-based decisions in the past.

A hypothesis that is just not realistic, and not even worth investigating. Max was way faster than Sergio as always; it really didn't matter which order they did it in.

Mercedes have a lot of explaining to do to both drivers by the looks, comically bad and completely outperformed by both who deserved better support.

A predictable result for the winner, but a race that looked salvaged by the rest with some unpredictable conditions. Chuffed to see Alonso and Pierre on the podium. Another race down and that bit closer to the end of the season.

Agreed. Baffling unraveling by the Team. Not a good sign……

So the weather made it fun. But as predicted it made no difference to the eventual winner.
Alonso drove like a man possessed today. His earlier podiums this year were (in part), due to having the second best car at the time. I would say he has the third, fourth or fifth best car right now. But he was able to lean on the tyres whilst others were still trying to learn the latest conditions. Pure masterclass.

Ferrari are going to get lynched at Monza. They are a disgrace. They should remove the prancing horse and replace it with a donkey.

Fred was in Top Form today but the upgrades to the AMR23 over the break appear to be well implemented as well.

LeClerc appears to have been the instrument of his own destruction this weekend. He evidently came into the pits when the team told him to stay out which is why they did not have tires ready. And he also went off early on and damaged his undertray, which is why he was nowhere the rest of the race. And breaking his wing on Norris' tire didn't help, either, since he had to do a long pit stop to replace it.

What a stupid late call with the red flag! They never learn do they? Interesting race, some were going really well when it wasn't raining. Albon and Alonso were showing some awesome driving.

But what a daft late call even more so when the restart order is from the lap before the lap the red flag was called. So the ones that crashed did so with no reason to if the call was made that lap earlier.

Some of the team strategies though were daft, Mercedes and Ferrari weren't very good.

Why just why did we have ANOTHER race where a Ferrari pitted and they AGAIN didn't have the tyres ready? I don't get it I really don't.

And Mercedes seemed to think their car on slicks was immune to rain slowing them down? Whilst those on inters blasted past them like they were stood still.
