Wow what a race so far. Mercedes is amazing at a different level. Russel is flawless, but Lewis Hamilton, driver of the day for me. He is on fire and having a brilliant race.

Can’t believe the mistakes from Ferrari on Carlos Sainz. Crazy at this level.

Yay Max Verstappen four times in a row World Champion. In a car third in the constructors championship. Amazing results.

Glad Carlos Sainz still is on the podium and gained third place.

How did Sainz keep his place? Should have done time for his mistake at pit entry.. I guess Lewis did it once, so I guess Sainz is allowed once.. New broom and already a failed race director.. Should have fired the Race Director, a new one for the last 2 events?

Soooooo... why is the race starting so late here in the US?

Here is what i found:

Why is the F1 so late at night in Las Vegas?

The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix starts at 10 p.m. local time on Saturday, November 24, making it midnight or later for many viewers in the United States. This is the same start time as it was for last year's race.

The reason? Global broadcasting opportunities.

Las Vegas Grand Prix CEO Renee Wilm explained the decision in 2023, saying: "That was actually a compromise to make sure we are broadcasting at a time when our European fans can get up with a cup of coffee and watch the race [at] six, seven in the morning, very similar to how we [in the US] watch the European races.

"So that was actually a very important component of planning out our sequencing for the race weekend."

Of course, staging a night-time race amid the neon glow of the Strip also adds a certain aesthetic lustre to the event, much like those in Singapore and Bahrain.
I’ve heard many people say that Pacific Time (the time zone of the US and Canadian west coast, including Las Vegas) is the worst time zone in the world to do business with.

I have no skin in the game, but Lando's post-race comments don't exactly bolster any impression that he's WDC material.

Doesn't seem to have the self-confidence and killer instinct that separate the great ones from the merely good.

Sure, he might get one if McLaren built a dominant car, and no one else could, but in the face of a challenge?

There’s plenty of champions from the past who won due to circumstances and who were not better than their rivals overall, it takes all sorts to make the sport what it is. Lando lacks consistency and it’s something I have always said that puts the like of Alonso, Hamilton, Verstappen apart from the rest. The car is one element and doesn’t guarantee a championship, it’s about nerve and consistency.

Congrats Max!

At least we've had two actual title battle this year. I didn't stay up for this one so I'll have to check out the highlights.
Well, unless one of you can tell me what happened to Gasly...? Ahh Blown engine.

Schumacher, Prost, Senna...

Yup, I feel Lando will need the best car to win one. But who knows?

@TheIntruder - I thought his post race comments were gracious more than anything else. I didn't see it an admission to any personal weakness. He was being a gentleman.

Still have to say this has been one of the best seasons for years, no one ran away with it, cars much closer together, brilliant battles. I don’t mind if Max, Lando, Lewis win, but I don’t want them winning by in Lewis’s case on one race I remember lapping 4th place their car was so dominant, that’s just boring. I want the teams to fight for that win. This year was closer to that then it has been for ages.

Exactly, it was (and still is with constructors to play for) an exciting season. Exactly what a lot of people asked for.

One thing though when you look at those results, yet once again...

Mercedes 1-2
Ferrari 3-4
McLaren 6-7
Red Bull Racing 5-10

Checo is just not fit for the seat in that team.

He doesn’t have the Killer Instinct, maturity, or self confidence. That’s not going to change. He’s a good driver in an outstanding car. Max was once again an outstanding driver in a mid field car.

It was an amazing 4th WDC. Max put the RB20 exactly where it needed to be each time he needed to. One of the greatest of all time.

Carlos had a good chance at P2 if they would have pitted 2 laps earlier. That entire pit sequence was vintage Ferrari.

On to 2025. Who will be Max’s Teammate?

100% agree, he is in the 95% class, that is why he is in F1, but WDC, nope, he lacks the 5% x factor, there is no fight, no drive, he just goes to his happy place, at 95% and camps there.. He will never be WDC, a kid 12 yrs old today, will beat Lando to WDC title..

Enjoyed the race. Fortunately the highlights show skipped over some of the pre race red carpet walks etc that we had last year.
I was hoping Lewis would continue to reel in George for an exciting finish. Basically Lewis lost the chance to win today in qualifying.
Mercedes were the car to beat in the cold. Ferrari were the best of the rest (cars). It’s an unusual season when we turn up each week and not knowing who will be the quickest car (let alone driver). But I like it!

Max joins the select few of being a four time champion. He is the best driver of his generation even when his car is not the best in the grid.

As for the constructors it’s hard to call. Unless McLaren get Lando’s confidence back or the next two tracks really suit their package, I think it’s going to go Ferrari’s way.

First time ever we’ve had four different teams with a 1-2 in a single season apparently.

Felt sorry for Gasly. Rotten luck with a power unit failure, but he had lost plenty of ground before then.

Also what’s with all the plastic bags on the track? We don’t see that anywhere else. Doesn’t paint the US in a good light does it? No bins or reusable bags in LA?

Or when Max won 19 races in a season without really breaking a sweat. These guys can race and it nice to see them tested. That comfortable points cushion Max built up in the first quarter of the season reminds me of Button in 2009, started the season in the best car before other teams caught up and passed them. He kept himself consistent and finished as high as he possibly could to return maximum points and that is where nerve and consistency comes into play.

I think Lando will learn from this season, it’s his first time really fighting for wins, let alone a championship. His comments about Lewis only winning because he had the best car must be haunting him a bit now lol, he’s realised the top drivers make that last bit of difference and Lando needs to find consistency as he has the raw speed. Let’s hope for a competitive 2025 now this one is done and dusted. The next races are going essentially practice runs for it to start all over again.

I went to bed an hour before the race started and watched the VOD this morning. Overall a good race and I am also surprised that Carlos was not penalized for aborting at the pit entrance.

This morning we have been ranking the 23 drivers this year on an F1 Discord server I am a member of so I thought I would include my list here (drivers ranked within each tier).

I largely agree with this. I'd put Perez and Colapinto 1 lower and Bottas 1 higher.

Perez - his team mate just won a title with 2 races remaining he's struggling to score points
Colapinto - fast, but he's destroying cars in a team that can't afford it.
Bottas - there's no real difference between him and Zhou. The teams terrible so its hard to judge further.

Perez did his usual mid-season super slump, but he was strong at the start so that is why I put him in C.

Colapinto has indeed crashed a fair bit, but he is a rookie and rookies are expected to crash. And he has impressed me more than Albon has (Albon has really disappointed me this year).

Bottas is so much more experienced than Zhou and Sargeant, yet he is behind both in the WDC. He can qualify well on occasion, but then he drops like a stone in the race. Yes, the Sauber is absolute garbage and their half-minute pit stops early on shafted him, but the Williams is no winner, either, and I feel he still should be ahead of at least Zhou.

I agree with all of your points, but Perez mid-season slump is now abysmal. I see no reason he should even be in F1 currently. I'd be tempted to put him down with Stroll. His Mexican GP was so bad it could've been Stroll or Sargent in the car.

Colapinto is a rookie and rookies are expected to crash. But rookies coming into a team who have pretty major problems with cash and spares should crash less than he has. 3 cars destroyed in 2 races is more than you'd expect from a rookie, and a lot more than you'd expect from a rookie in the current situation.

Colapinto has potential to be much higher, but right now based on results, I can't rate him higher. Personally.

hmmm What does the "S" equal?

The other ones seem to based on educational grades...? Correct?
