This season is really getting interesting. Looked like it was going to be turgid domination again, I have no issue if Max wins again in a season like this. I don’t doubt he’s the best driver but it’s nice to see him have to work for it.

It's all we wanted right?

Make it competitive...

Had to wait until 1:30am for the qualifying highlights.
Mercedes have some serious pace at last. As do McLaren. But just as it looks like a four way split Ferrari fall away.

And then at the end Lewis struggles and Max finds a lap.

Really hoping George can convert pole. But suspect if it rains Max will win the day sadly.

So when they have a tie on lap time in qualifying the driver who set it first gets to be pole position/in front of the other driver... correct?

aka first come, first serve...

Yes it’s the fairest way to do it. Typically tracks speed up the longer qualifying goes on so a fast lap first is typically a bigger achievement.

Good news for Sainz?

I do believe as bad as Williams are right now I'd rather see him there than anywhere else, besides a top 3 team, for next season.

Showers expected off and on all day in Montreal and a morning deluge probably scrubbed the track clean. Track evolution was crazy after rain cleaned the track yesterday so hoping we could see tumbling lap times and plenty of passing when it is dry.

Definitely going to be a Wet Race at the start. Track is starting to dry as cars run exploration laps and I see a bit of blue sky and sun.

Well Max owns Logan a steak dinner as his crash set up the scenario for Max to win yet again. Norris second, Russell third and Hamilton fourth. Dual DNF for Ferrari and dual points finishes for Aston and Alpine.

Fantastic team play at Red Bull to win this one. Great effort by Lando, always love his interaction with Max.

Mercedes look strong when their cars are light.

Perez, well. I guess he has got his contract so we’ve seen his best now ;)

Impressive drives from Lando and especially George. The pass on Lewis into 14 was perfectly executed.

Lando benefits in Miami, not so much here....

Ferrari? The curse awakens....

Great drive from Max. Perfectly executed Team Process in tricky conditions. Max had no trouble managing the gap after the SC. On to Spain. WDC lead now 51 pts. Sergio meeting with his Sports Psychologist on Tuesday.........

This has been Mercedes performance for a long time. Always better performance on less than 1/2 tanks.

It was a perfectly executed race by Red Bull. ;)

A really good drive by Lewis too, he’s getting a lot of praise but was pretty downbeat due to his request for soft tyres being ignored. Toto came on the radio saying something like ‘the positive is the car has performance’, but I think Mercedes are now doing what you’d expect, protecting their future interest. I can’t blame them for that but it’s more difficult when you haven’t got a Perez in the other car. Hopefully we are seeing a season with some competition finally, Max is having to work for this one

I can’t wait to see what happens when max is wheel to wheel competition again.
Had George made it to challenge today it would have been fascinating to see if he would have the foresight to potentially settle for 2nd place and the points in the championship over the potential for zero points.

That’s a really good question. I’m not sure Max would settle for a P2 if he thinks he can make a move. He definitely is more settled than a few years ago. I think it would come down to his primal racing instincts. I’m not certain another WDC would prevail over a P1 at that moment. It shouldn’t be too long before we find out.

Personally, I see Max leaving F1 after 2028 to run his Racing Team FT.

Stayed up late to catch the highlights. They didn’t start until 12:30am.

Enjoyed the race. It’s a shame that Max still picked up the win. Mercedes or McLaren could have done had the pit stops gone another way or hadn’t been fighting with each other.

So question. If Mercedes end up being the best car by the dnd of the season, how will Lewis feel about his switch? Especially after another catastrophic result for Ferrari.

I was wondering why nobody went to Soft tires, but my guess is since the compound is the softest in the range and Montreal can be very tough on tires so perhaps they just would not last 20 laps even on low fuel loads.

I don't see Lewis being at the same level of excitement as he was after the announcement. Lewis and Charles were having a very serious conversation about something during the wagon ride pre-race. They were both crouched down in the forward R corner out of view for quite a while. It sure seemed like Charles was getting things off his chest about something. I think Canada was a one off for Ferrari. From a performance point I still see it RB, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes at the end of 2024. That's just the chassis and PU. Throw Max behind the wheel and you're on another level. Like him or hate him, it's just reality.

I was wondering why nobody went to Soft tires, but my guess is since the compound is the softest in the range and Montreal can be very tough on tires so perhaps they just would not last 20 laps even on low fuel loads.

No team other than Mercedes has really commented on this. Bono and Lewis had quite a conversation about it. Mercedes didn't feel they would last 16 laps. The track surface was new, and reportedly 20% lest abrasive. They must have had data from the FP's?

Lewis was rightfully upset over the call. I think if anyone could have made the softs last 16 it would have been Lewis or Max.
