A Spanish media outlet is reporting that Carlos Sainz has signed a contract for 2025 and beyond and will reveal it at the Spanish Grand Prix.
They believe that team is Williams. There is concern that Audi's development program is not far enough along and that it may be years before they are in a position to seriously compete with current Top Five. Williams, on the other hand, is offering him flexible terms to jump ship if a better option opens up post-2025 and while they are constrained by the cost cap in improving their facilities, the same issue is impacting Stake/Audi.
It really is crazy that arguably one of the best performing drivers on the grid this last year is stuck choosing between Sauber and Williams for 2025. He's proven himself in both Ferrari and McLaren as a top driver and that's probably why: all of the top teams have their preferred first driver set for next year.Carlos must feel like a Pawn on a Chess Board by now……

Yes, it does seem to be that way. McLaren was never an option as they already had both drivers under long-term contract. Mercedes would have been an obvious choice, but Toto still has PTSD from losing Max to Red Bull/Toro Rosso so he wants to be sure that Kimi Antonelli is in a Silver Arrow next year. And Red Bull / VCARB have five drivers for four seats already, so that leaves the bottom four teams as the only option.
I admit I am surprised I have heard little to no chatter about Sainz and Haas. Haas ended up being a fair bit better than they expected and I would like to think they would jump at getting Sainz to pair with Oliver Bearman. Of course, Sainz will demand a salary 2-3x what K-Mag is earning so perhaps that is why. Then again, you'd think Ferrari would be willing to help out since Sainz would be a far better mentor for Bearman than K-Mag (IMO).

Alas, it looks like the rain is too heavy to continue as we reach halfway in P2.
Max has had a mechanical issue and they're tearing his car apart in the garage.
MGU needs replacement. When it rains it pours……
lolOh good we’re back in North America, more Danica Patrick 😭🔫
lol
Why didn't they just stay here after the Miami "race"?
I really prefer the European tracks.
FP3 was dry so we should be seeing more representative times.
Lewis put in a "hammer time" lap that put him 7/10th up on #2 with 10 minutes to go and ended up 4/10ths up on Max and George at the checkered. Rest of the Top 10 was Stroll, Piastri, Ricciardo, Norris, Alonso, Perez and LeClerc.
I think Red Bull is running a higher ride height as at Imola and Monaco and it is hurting them so I think Max could be at risk for Pole.
Max and Alex both hit Champion's Wall, but both appear to have mostly gotten away with it.
And both Ferrari's out in Q2. Max 7th and looking not good.
Mercedes the class of the field today with Lewis and Russel trading fastest laps. Which one will be on pole?
I don’t understand why they didn’t use the remaining set of Softs to get into Q3?
