Really enjoyed the race. Worked the weekend so only caught up this morning.
I think RBR will win the WC as well as the drivers even though Perez is woeful.

Reason being the points are being divided up by McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes. You would need one of those three to become the key number two team to RB and consistently get both drivers on the podium to challenge Max and RB.

Still it makes for a lot better viewing than last season!

Exactly. If Max wins a race because of better strategy or skill, I am fine with that. But I am happy to see him being consistently pushed now, as opposed to just romping off to a 30-second lead allowing him to make pit stops without giving up the lead.

And Max seems to be happy about being pushed, too.

Exactly. No one likes seeing a driver win by miles every week. You want it to be a challenge for them. Ideally different drivers winning different weeks as well.

So some interesting items in The Race's latest video about Alpine, two of which could tangentially impact Andretti Racing's desire to join The Circus.

Renault is considering shutting down the engine division and going with a customer engine for the 2026 season. While it is just speculation, one wonders if that might have had some influence in F1 not accepting Andretti since they were said to be using a Renault engine for 2025-2027 until the Cadillac PU was ready in 2028.

Renault may also considering putting the team up for sale (and possibly the entire brand). This would be the easiest way for Andretti and Cadillac to buy into F1 (especially if the next Concorde Agreement lowers the number of possible entries from 13 to 10), though Andretti has said they are not interested in buying another team to gain an entry.

OKAY, OKAY, EVERYBODY CALM DOWN!!

I'd be fine with Jarno Trulli winning by 30 seconds...
I’m amazed that name is even mentioned in the current fever pitch high drama circus world of F1 these days.

That’s a name from my time of watching F1. ;)

I remember Jean Alesi well too, another of my favourite drivers. Remember his win in Canada. That was great.

The current crop of drivers, maybe aside from Hamilton, I could walk straight past them and wouldn’t recognise any of them. They could just be some F1 fan wearing the sponsored jacket and cap.

Of all the ones I wish I did get to meet, probably Michael Schumacher - I grew up watching him race and it took my mind away from the difficult times back then, seeing a real F1 race was far beyond my means back then.

Unfortunately now probably won’t ever see him or get to do something as simple as saying thanks. :( Maybe he wouldn’t understand a word of it.

A whole lot of great drivers in those times.

Murray Walker is another great from those times. Not a driver but a huge name. His commentary was great.

There was actually someone doing a fairly decent impersonation of Lewis Hamilton fooling the crowds at the Spanish Grand Prix. :D

Poor Alesi. He should have won a couple of more races IMHO.

The problem with Alesi is he couldn't set a car up to save his life and often found himself over-driving the car to compensate. He also made poor choices when switching teams, much like Alonso in the modern era, often moving to teams on the downslope of their success.
You're not wrong... He sure gave Senna a run for his money in '90 @ Phoenix in his Tyrrell...

From what I've seen I'd agree that the Andretti situation is the rational behind this. I'd just as soon see Renault leave. They are currently 25hp (minimum) down on every other PU and isn't going to change. The more PU suppliers the better, but only if they are committed.

Even without the Circus Drama I don't see a path for them to develop a competitive 2026 PU.

This dude is all over the place.

He did and his only win in Montreal 1995 was special. He was a fond favourite at Ferrari due to his Sicilian roots but never quite lived up to his potential.

Interesting. My wife's father was a Sicilian Immigrant . Came to the US in 1929. I have many memories of his lack of fondness for Italy at family gatherings. He often went out of his way to be critical of Italy.

Perhaps it's regional? I never asked him why.

Full Court Press from Toto today to try and sign Max. Interview quotes out there.

Something must be going on.

Toto yesterday was doing the rounds stating that he was no longer talking to Max. Or is that what you are referring to and suggesting "the Wolff doth protest too much methinks"? :)

It will be interesting to see where they take the Grid Penalty. My money will be on Singapore.

Yes I could see Singapore as a place to take a new engine, but I have the feeling they're going to need a new one well before 22 September.

I presume they will not do so for Austria this week since it is a "Home Race", but if the engine currently in the car can handle the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, I could see them taking their first mulligan at Hungary so they have a good engine for Spa, Zandvoort and Baku before they replace again in Singapore.

Instead of grid penalties, the team is limited to 20min in FP3 for set up.. This way it does not affect Qualifying, or the race, but punishes them for a tech issue..
