Of course, Lando has a number of "own goals" that cost him plenty of points, including his ill-advised pass attempt in Austria and his P16 start in Baku.
Yep.
It's always easier to blame others than to look in the mirror.
I'm not saying that outside factors don't cause problems.
But they are largely out of one's control.
What you can control is your own performance and errors.

I must have missed about two thirds of this season so far. Having to look after my disabled mother has been hell on my spare time.

I really need to try and catch up on the season, see Max melt down, see Lando rising. I guess Max will still win but next year I'll be surprised if he does, especially with Newey gone up the road.

Oh Alonso and Aston and Newey! What a combination. Shame about Stroll.

Lance can go play tennis.
Was hoping to see Carlos go to Aston to pair up with Fernando.
Newey wouldn't go to Aston if he didn't think they could be winners.

Lance's dad is funding the team still isn't he? As long as he's doing that Stroll won't be going anywhere. Pity.

I don't believe Newey would sign up with Aston knowing that half the drivers are boat anchors. I believe Lance will be whacking tennis balls soon. I suspect Lawrence Stroll is looking to Poach Max from the Marko, Jos and Christian clown show. 🤡🤡🤡 Something is seriously wrong behind the curtains at RB.

Well 50% of the drivers at RBR were just taking up a seat when Newey was there.

There's a big difference between taking up a seat and being a productive wingman that helps win individual and constructor's championships. Perez and Bottas in the past might have something to say about that.

McLaren showing how it's done with wingman! Those two drivers have been phenomenal. Shame Newey didn't go to McLaren.

Interestingly, Lewis told Mercedes he wanted to start on the Mediums, but they overruled what Lewis asked for and put him on used soft tyres.

And Mercedes knew that using used soft tyres was a bad idea as they did put Medium tyres on George his car, the same tyres Lewis asked for.

It really looks like they want to make sure George finishes ahead of Lewis this season.

Don’t imagine Oscar fancies himself a wingman. It’s going to be a problem going forward for McLaren. The last thing McLaren needs is another Prost-Senna situation.

That wasn’t very subtle on Toto’s part, was it?
A real head scratcher unless you go with your reasoning.
Well, Lewis bailed on Mercedes abruptly and now Toto is returning the favor.
I’m glad Lewis got his win at Silverstone but I think that is going to be the only highlight of the season for him.

Really lowball move by Mercedes. I was somewhat surprised. I’ll bite on your argument that Toto is trying to reaffirm George as the #1 next year. Lousy way to go about it. Although it fits his Teutonic decision process. I’m not sure George will be there in 2026. Max will be choosing between Mercedes and AMR for 2026. George keeps the ride if Max goes to AMR and Fernando moves to a managerial position. I don’t see Toto letting Kimi II go. He still has night sweats over loosing Max.

Still are…..

Perhaps Toto believed Lewis could jump Max at the start and then an early Safety Car would be triggered to allow swapping to Mediums or even Hards, so he put him on a different tire strategy.

That’s how I read the strategy. Get track position at the start. Then maintain it during the inevitable SC. Remember before last weekend they had a 100% SC in Singapore.

That's not an unreasonable scenario.
But part of me thinks Toto was doing Toto things.

If you are betting on a safety car to come, you want to stay out as long as possible so you can do your pitstop when the SC car comes, rather than doing it before. So you need the Medium tyres.

And maintain what? If Lewis has a good start, Lewis cannot defend against Max when Max has superior Medium tyres. Lewis could have only maintained his position against Max if he gets a good start on the Medium tyres until a potential safety car comes.

It’s interesting to see that Lewis as a 7-time WDC has to fight the night before the race explaining Mercedes how the soft tyres will not work (and he is correct) and gets totally ignored. While George with far less F1 experience gets to make his own strategy decisions as what we see during the races.

In the end, it doesn’t matter as Lewis said he is now “done with Mercedes” (I don’t blame him). And he has a good chance of beating Mercedes next year if Ferrari will remain as good as they are.

Lewis on used softs is going to get past Max or Max and Lando on new mediums?

It was Toto being Toto.

I expect the hope for both Lewis and Daniel was an SC on the first or second lap.

Did Lewis have any new Softs available?
